2016 Ladder Predictions

Written by MJ on February 13 2016

All the focus so far this pre-season has been on who we’re considering for our SuperCoach sides (and rightly so!). Let’s take a step back and lay our thoughts on the table on how we think the AFL Season will pan out, shall we?

It shapes as an interesting year for the Premiership race. As you’d probably expect, it’s the 2015 Grand Finalists who begin 2016 as the two most favoured to take out this year’s Granny, the Hawks and Eagles. Nipping at their heels are Fremantle, Geelong, Port Adelaide, Sydney and (dare I say it) Richmond.

Just remember last pre-season one of our most fancied sides was Port Adelaide. On the other hand, the West Coast Eagles and the Western Bulldogs barely got a look into our top 8 predictions. In fact, most only correctly picked 5 correctly for their finalists last year.

Without even seeing a single game in 2016, what do you project the ladder looking like at the conclusion of the Home & Away Season? At the end of the year, I’ll go back and reflect on how we all did, which always provides a bit of entertainment for everyone.

  3. Interesting to read our total fail on west coast from last year. Massive overachievers last year or just massively underrated?

Or massive underachievement by Sydney, Port and Freo?

  7. I feel as though really, its gonna be an eagles vs hawks grand final again, even though most people on the east coast still somehow think the eagles fluked it last year, the eagles are a seriously good team with one of, if not the best list in the afl, (just ask champion data). seriously show me a hole in the eagles best 22, this team is the next superpower, as much as Victorians might hate to say it. and of course, even though people want a fresh team to come into the scene and win the flag, the hawks are still the best team, and people are dreaming to think that teams like port and freo are going to leapfrog the hawks. Honestly yes, geelong and port have picked up some good players, but it’s their gameplan that’s outdated, and this is where hawthorn, (and to a lesser extent west coast) triumph over the rest of the competition. oh and freo??? give me a break, adding Harley bennel does not make a team premiers, freo is on decline, and there is only a slight chance that they improve in 2016.

  10. I love this time of year! Everyone is full of hope and training the house down! Everyone has an inside scoop or a feeling this could be the year! Before I give my predictions I will say this, this will be a very tight year. I’m predicting as little as 8 points will seperate 5th and 13th, and I wouldn’t be surprised if someone outside the four wins it. Here are my predictions after I’ve looked at the fixtures and injury lists:

    West Coast
    Port
    Bulldogs
    Collingwood
    Geelong
    Fremantle

    Roos
    GCS
    Richmond
    GWS

    Brisbane
    Saints
    Demons
    Essendon
    Carlton

    Grand Final Winner Hawks
    Grand Final Loser West Coast
    Biggest Over Achiver Carlton
    Biggest Under Achiever Richmond

Headline of the year: Watson Keeps Brownlow/Ross Lyon to coach the Tigers in 2017(you heard it hear first)
