2018 SCT Cup – Guidelines

To launch the 2018 SCT Cup it seems appropriate to remind everyone of the 2017 results. In the Grand Final, Power rangers (coached by Nathan) came out on top of the creatively named Bunchakhuuuunts (coached by Michael) to win the comp, take the bragging rights, claim the prizes and get his name in the SCT Hall of Fame.

To those who were around the site last year, the SCT Cup will run pretty similar to last year. For any site newbies or massively hungover Tigers fans (hello MJ), all you need to do now is make sure you’ve joined the SCT group (#197358 or click link here) and get cracking on a team that will jump out of the blocks.

* At the end of Round 3, the top 230 teams in the SCT group (excluding the automatic qualifiers) earn a spot.

* Round 4 is wildcard round. For those without a spot in the SCT Cup, round 4 is your chance to sneak in. The 10 highest scoring teams in round 4 (of those not already qualified) will earn a spot.

* The eight quarter finalists from last year are automatic qualifiers AND get direct entry to the round of 128 AND get seeded #1 – #8 for that round. That’s Power rangers (Nathan), Merky’s Premiers (David), Griggsy FC (Simon), Rockliff_Nroll@SCT (Wendy), Bunchakhuuuunts (Michael), MaccasMaulersSCT (Troy), Bustling Barrys (Anna) & The Phat Side @ SCT (Yiorgakis) that get this massive leg up on the competition as reward for their awesome 2017 season. If any of these eight coaches have new team names, drop me a comment to help me out.

The highest ranked coach at the start of each round is given the #1 seeding and will play the lowest ranked, the second highest is the #2 and will play the second lowest, etc… The exception will be at the round of 128 where the automatic qualifiers are given the #1 – #8 seeding.

Matches are played head-to-head (H2H) across two rounds (or three when it gets to the bye rounds) with the higher scorer advancing and the lower scorer being eliminated. If there’s a tie the higher seed progresses. For each new round of the SCT Cup seedings are recalculated of those left in the comp with the same format applying of highest ranked playing the lowest ranked, etc…

Rounds 1, 2 & 3: Qualification Weeks

Round 4: Wildcard Week

Rounds 5 & 6: Round of 256

Rounds 7 & 8: Round of 128

Rounds 9 & 11: Round of 64

Round 10: no SCT Cup because of the awkward Port and GC bye

Rounds 12, 13 & 14 (bye rounds): Round of 32

Rounds 15 & 16: Round of 16

Rounds 17 & 18: QUARTER FINALS

Rounds 19 & 20: SEMI FINALS

Rounds 21 & 22: GRAND FINAL

  1. Thanks Roo Bloke

This comp was awesome last year and loving the new qualification rules for last years finalists. 😉

Anyway, Merky’s Premiers (2017) has been renamed Merky’s Mugs (2018) after a below standard 2017 in my main league.

  2. Loved it last year RB and am in again and particularly love the “automatic qualification” part!

Team name still the same – mind you chasing the SCT cup saw me blow trades and my OA ranking plummet in the last few weeks, so might have to rethink that strategy!!

Awesome stuff mate! Looking forward to the challenge again!

  3. Hey RB! Loved this last year and the new concepts for this year are fantastic and a great idea.

Just wanting to clarify the numbers upfront as I’m sure it’ll be tight and competitive for the last few spots. By my count you’ve got 230 + 10 + 8 = 248, which is 8 short of the full draw. Just clarifying if those other 8 reserved for the major contributors to the site, or whether they’ll be pulled from the round 3 totals or wildcard round? Same for if some of the auto qualifiers are the top 230? Hopefully I’m not just tired at the end of a long week!

Great job on this and thanks for running it!

    1. The 8 seeded players are straight through to the round of 128. Means there’s 120 spots left at the round of 128 so double it to 240 for the round of 256. Probably need to rename that round to round of 240.
