2UP: MAR 3

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 14 2018

After the infamous ‘Thumbs Blackout’ of 2016, we’re extremely joyous to have our Thumbs function back up and running.  So much so, that we dedicate an entire thread to it.  And it has been so popular that we’re already onto our 3rd thread for March.

If there are two players that you simply cannot seperate (or a combination of players) then enter their names into the Forum below.  Our Coaches will point you in the right direction with the Thumbs UP/DOWN………..

  1. In my current team, I have Fogarty sitting in at F5 and I have 250k left over money.
I am considering upgrading him to sicily, but if I do I will have no left over money.

T/U: Upgrade to Sicily, he will score better and have better job security

T/D: Save the cash for upgrades in the year, Fogarty will rise up

  2. need some help with my forward line premos.

    T/U – Franklin/Billings/Smith ($103.5k)
    T/D – McLean/Billings/Smith ($173.8k)
Comment – Other option than Franklin or McLean.

    1. Don’t know what your team looks like but I feel as though with limited forward rookies these should be f5 options.

  3. Can a NON cookie cutter team be highly successful? Depends on alot of factors, but general consensus?

    1. I went ‘cookie cutter’ last year, didn’t do so well. (May not have been the initial team’s fault…) I won the league i was in with my mates, but my overall score wasn’t anything to boast about.

Trying something slightly different this year, will see what happens.

  4. I’ve got 2 sets here

    TU- zorko and parker
    TD- Bontempelli and adams

    And

    TU- Bell and Sicily
    TD- Fogarty and SImpson

  5. For M4:

    TU: Kelly
    TD: Zerrett

Zerrett has averaged 110 the last 2 seasons, and will likely average the same again. I feel Kelly could average more, but doesn’t have the history to back it up (last year being his big breakout year). I also feel Kelly will get a lot of attention from opponents in order to shut him down, as he’s more of an outside player.

    1. 2017 stats
Contested possessions – Kelly 11.1 per game, Merrett 9 per game
Tackles – Kelly 6.5 per game, Merrett 5.5 per game

Kelly’s inside game is underrated because he has such a great outside game. He’s a much more balanced player than a lot of people give him credit for. It’s also hard to tag against GWS, because if you take Kelly out, you still have to deal with Shiel, Ward, Scully, Coniglio….

    1. Armitsge is a lot more safe, almost guaranteed to make you 90+, which isn’t amazing for someone you’d want in your team as a keeper, but omeara is high risk, high reward. Could end up averaging 105+ in 20+ games, or could bust out, average 80, or get injured again, and just potentially never be the player he used to be and we want to be. It’s up to you, safe option or risky option.

  6. Am looking at two very different fwd lines and yes I know I don’t have Heeney (interrupted preseason) Billings ( apart from last year has never played a full season due to leg hamstring injuries) and Devon Smith (not interested).
    Anyway.
Thumbs up: Menegola/Buddy McLean Parish Hewett Christensen Fritsch.
Thumbs down: Hogan Taberner Trengove Cox Bell Christensen

    1. I assume thumbs up will be more popular for SuperCoach.
Based on JLT form am keen on thumbs down Hogan (more mid time personal issues last year) Taberner ( looks to have improved) Trengove (with Roughead out will surely assume ruck role) Cox (with more consistency couple years in the system now strong mark will be a focal point for Pies up forward) Bell (more mid time may have come on in off season).
      All that said should I
Thumbs up: try it in Dreamteam (more trades).
      Thumbs down: don’t do it.

  7. Jack Gunston hasn’t missed a game since 2014, and has consistently averaged around 90, ± 5 points. Last year’s average 0f 86 was his worst for a while, having gone 90+ in 2014 to 2016.

He’s only 26, so it’s unlikely that his body will suddenly fall apart, and I don’t expect Hawthorn to be any worse this year than they were last year (even if they are, he still averaged 81 in losses – 85 if you ignore the first 6 rounds of the season).

With all that in mind, given the general rubbish-ness of the forward stocks this year, is he worth starting?

TU: Yes, 22 games at an average of 85 to 90 is nothing to sneeze at.
TD: No, you’re better off spending the same money on a Petracca type or shelling out a bit more for a real premium.

  8. If you are otherwise happy with your backline, is it worth re-jigging your structure to fit Aaron Naughton in?

    TU: Yes, you need him.
TD: No. He’s good, but he’s not **that** good.

    15

    8
    1. unless you are going for just the two defence premos, you won’t need him with Doedee, Finlayson and Murray for just the normal 3 premos

      2

      2
    2. I’ll rephrase. Is it worth dropping a premium defender to fit him in? Keep in mind that the premium being dropped would be a fairly cheap one, so the surplus cash likely wouldn’t be able to fund a genuine premium mid.

TU: Yes. Do whatever you have to in order to fit him in.
TD: No, the extra cash generation isn’t worth the lost points and the extra trade.

  9. T/U: S.Martin and M.Bontempelli + $46,900
    T/D: S.Jacobs and J.Kelly + $9,800

Feel there is better value in the first one, as I reckon the Bont will get close to Kelly numbers (if not beat them), and Martin is the better ruckman for mine. Thoughts?

    13

    13
  10. TU- Coniglio and Stephenson/Fogarty
    TD- McLean and Banfield
Really stuck over whether getting the extra premium in the forward line is the way to go

    1. I like Lloyd and he was in my team all pre season but he cant score with McVeigh, Newman and Rampe in the team
So because of that and because of his strong JLT I have gone with Tuohy, I know he had a fairly meh score in JLT2 but he still had 28 disposals with 21 I think kicks so it was just a poor day for his effieceny
If Lloyd proves me wrong in the first couple rounds he will be a certain trade in

  11. Hi and help with this one please…(I think I just need to stop touching the trade button) This is what I’m thinking currently.
Have 70 k in bank and still have danger on the ground, if he is out or late out, I will most likely go to oliver Melb which will give me another 135 K in the bank (200ish K) so…should I swap T Mclean 470K for Franklin 540K which leaves me with 5 k if danger plays…..I also have Heeney

    TU: Franklin
    TD: Keep McLean

  12. I want to run marchbank over sicily. Sicillys dpp is what’s winning for him so far.
TU.go marchbank if your gut says that he will have a better year.
TD.go sicilly, DPP is a great assett.

    16

    3
  13. Looking at D4 spot, either Marchbank @ $381k, or Weitering @ $353k.

    T/U – Marchbank
    T/D – Weitering

    18

  14. TU: A premium defender, plus Will Brodie and Andrew Brayshaw.
TD: A premium midfielder, Aaron Naughgton, plus only one of Brodie and Brayshaw.

  15. Starting Ablett if Danger doesn’t play and trading to danger when gaz misses his first game

    T/U = great idea
    T/D = don’t touch Gaz

    1. I prefer Duncan over gaz. Duncan may even bocome a keeper & pod who knows. He n Selwood will play Fulltime mid where gaz n paddy will rotate fwd

  16. T/U – Zerret, Garlett and $96k (onfield rookies will be – 3def, 3mid, 1fwd)

T/D – LDU(or another rookie with good JS/money making potential), Greene and $96.5k (onfield rookies will be 3def, 4mid, 0fwd ie. will have Sicily and Bell at F5 and F6)

  18. What is Cam O’sheas situation now? He got 60 in 1 quarter which is awesome but job security is only concern..pls give me thoughts on him.

  19. do we start danger and save ourselves a trade in a couple rounds? I hope Kelly Holman or banfield can drop decent score to cover his 1 week out…

    TU :yes start him

TD :no burn a trade & keep cash aside

    2

    6
  20. T/u: sicily at d3, christensen f5

T/d: somehow find cash. Sicily f5, savage d3

(Cash found from either ryder down to lycett. Or ryder down to sandi + a couple of other downgrades)

    3

    1
  21. TU : Keep D3 as Savage, (with Laird & Hibberd) and not have enough cash to bring in Danger as a straight swap for D Martin in R2 or whenever he returns

TD : Start with Sicily at D3 instead of Savage so D Martin can become Danger with $30k remaining

    2

    1
      1. It’s not ideal, but to not start with Danger and then bring him in before he plays his 3rd game, at the cost he is, you need serious coin leftover on the bench. I had him in my team initially, but have now traded him him out for D Martin, because of the hammy concern. I think I may just have to hope his price drops at some stage, as getting him in at that price seems impossible.

Other option could be if I wanted to keep Savage, would be to decide on only one of either Naughton/Coffield, and make the other a cheaper DEF rookie.

        TU Savage, Naughton, L Murphy
        TD Sicily, Naughton & Coffield

        1

        5
  22. T/U starting with Kreuzer (set & forget)
T/D starting with cheaper option i.e. Nank and trading to Ryder after R10

    Gawn at R1 obvs
