2UP: MAR #5

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 21 2019

You’ve studied for months, you’ve done the math, you’ve done the homework, you’ve put in the hard yards………and now it’s come down to these two………you just can’t seperate these two players.  That’s where SCT can help…….

Type the players names (or group of players) into the comments below and the SCT Coaches will guide you in the right direction through the thumbs UP/DOWN function.  Good luck in 2019, Coaches!

  1. Last couple decisions to be made, one being:
TU: Hurn, Neale (34k cash in bank)
TD: Lloyd, Merrett (12k cash in bank)

    11
  2. Another possible option here, the top option here means I would have 13 keepers in my team however cant squeeze libba or smith in the team, whilst the bottom has 12 keepers in the team with both of them in the team. Thoughts appreciated on if Libba and B.Smith are safe picks to be valuable stepping stones and worth having one less premium.
TU: Hurn, Neale, Duursma (34k cash in bank)
TD: Lloyd, Liberatore, B.Smith (54k cash in bank)

  3. Still struggle to look at 1.4mil in the ruck.

    Gawn up
    Goldy down

Will allow Oliver to come in for dusty

  4. Sheed + Scrimshaw + $92K – TU

    Z Williams + Cousins + $5K – TD

    I’m interested in your opinion.

  6. One last selection I’m struggling with.

  8. I can’t split the two for M4

    T/U Coniglio

    T/D Neale

    M1-3 is Macrae, Cripps, Oliver

I want coniglio as he looks good and is probably too cheap
but Neale is the ultra consistent 110 premo

      1. Does dropping Macrae and taking both free up enough dollars to do something meaningful elsewhere?

        2

        1
  9. TU
whitfield and rookie ( whitfield proven elite)

    TD
williams and Greene ( williams everyone hoping becomes elite)

  10. Having major second thoughts about Walsh.

Is he a must have? Going without certainly frees up some cash.

    TU – Walsh & Billings/Lycett
    TD – Hately & Dunkley
    Comment – Hind & Menegola

    1. I’m not starting him but keeping the funds to either get him on bubble or invest in first premium trade.

    1. Don’t pick a player off a half of JLT footy…

Both have question marks, but Darling goes big more often.

      2

      1. Looking a bit deeper – Darling’s highest average was last year ~86. Walters has bettered that in three previous seasons, including the last two.

I still think, when in doubt, go for the player in the better side.

        1. Thanks for your input BB!
It’s a tough one for sure.
I’m thinking of trying to find the extra $ for Kelly.
Means some lesser Rookies, but if named, might be best case.

    1. Might be better off in the Rate My Team post mate.

But personally I think you’ve gone a little too unique, I like to go overall and rely on a few POD’s that way you can still keep in touch if (when) a few don’t pan out.

No Macrae/Cripps/Oliver/Fyfe in the midfield is risky due to high ownership and IMO I think they’ll be top 8 mids end of year.

Smith/Fisher/Greene risky in the forward line too. Maybe just pick two then downgrade to a rookie and upgrade Mcgrath maybe? to a Lloyd/Whitfield/Hurn/Sicily type depending on your preference.

  12. With all the uncertainty around his role… what do we think of Whitfield?

    TU: Yea
    TD: Nay

    12

    3
  13. TU: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, BLAKEY, Setterfield, Petruccelle + 106k

    TD: MOORE + 34k

    Final team change.

  14. Collins or Rozee? will allow me to swap forward to backs if i go Rozee with Burgess in the forward line

    3

  15. T/U: Duursma (def) & Constable (mid)
    T/D: Hore (def) & Duursma (mid) + $6k

Think Hore JS is shaky. May in for him next week..

  16. For value, point-scoring potential and job security, who is the better option at Hawthorn?

    TU Cousins
    TD Scrimshaw

    4

    4
  17. T/U: move Duursma into the Mids & grab Hore as D8
T/D: leave Duursma in Def & grab Atkins as Mid (no Hore then)

    1

    8
  18. TU: It’s fine to go with both Geelong rookies in the mids, Constable & Atkins

TD: Should only pick one of these rookies and use other pick for Hind

    6

  19. Who to start as D5 & D6?

    T/U – Collins & Clark

    T/D – Collins & Scrimshaw

    Comment for: Clark & Scrimshaw

  20. I’m picking Wilkie (named) for my bench. I’m getting rid of one to make way and can’t decide. Not interested in pts potential, JUST JS

    Who do I keep?
    TU: Xavier DUURSMA
    TD: Jack SCRIMSHAW

    Thanks all 🙂

    7

    1
  21. TU: B Grundy (R1) and X Duursma (D7)
    TD: M Gawn (R1) and J Scrimshaw (D6)

Can’t have both B Grundy and J Scrimshaw as I’m $500 off due to replacing J Kelly with C Oliver.

    7

  22. Brayshaw worth the extra $110k over crouch?

    TU: Yeah take brayshaw

TD: nope save the $$ and upgrade Greene at F4 to a Dunkley/darling

    5

    6
  23. Treloar is ranked 9th best mid and ahead of Coniglio, yet not much love for him from SC coaches.

Is Treloar a safe pick to average 110 again?
T/U Treloar is good for 110
    T/D Treloar will drop

    10

  24. Right now have 4 mids + Libba and utilising the (hopefully good) mid rookies.

Still tossing up however whether to:

TU – Run with Lloyd, Williams, Moore in the back, and Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Kelly down fwd.

TD – OR, go with Lloyd, Hurn, Williams back, and Danger, Dunkley, Kelly fwd.

Let me know what you guys think, an extra fwd or back?? Thanks

  25. Last chance roll of the dice; (Currently have Macrae and Cripps M1 and M2)

    Mids: M3 -M5

TU: Fyffe, Coniglo, Brayshaw (Greene F4) and 24K left over
TD: Fyffe. Oliver , Libba (Dunkley F4) and 55K left over

  26. Have constable on the bench as an emergency:

TU: Put Hind on the field to get his 85

TD: Suck it up and field a full playing team in round 1

  27. Grundy’s performance through the jlt and last night has me a bit concerned. The fact he’s so highly owned it’s not a big one but am wondering should i/we be covering our backs in case of a dreaded ‘rested’ game.
So thoughts on a lobbe or lycette at f4.
I currently have dunkly who I’m not sure on anyway.

TU, do it, cover is good and dunkly may be a bust anyway.

TD, leave dunkly, he will kill it and Grundy will play right through unless injured.

  28. So outside of nank(the hoff’s goals don’t count) Are rucks going to be sub par this year besides the odd big game? Almost none of them tonned up! Mcavoy and nank, thats all so far. If the same happens next week it could be a trend. Especially if goldy goes sub 100.
If this eventuates we should have a collective vote on to dump(corrective trade Grawndy) Of course everyone does their own thing, but a collective everyone yes or no gives some kind of idea of where everyone is at.
I’m keen to see everyone elses thoughts on this, if this weeks ruck positon repeats itself next week.
I’m only saying this due to the possibility of this being a trend this year.

    1. It’s an interesting point of view TOF. And, prima facie, based on only the one match thus far both the rucks that have played, it would be interesting to see if there is some possible correlation between the new rule changes and the lower scoring on the gun rucks, and most in general. Would be very interesting to see what the total hitouts and hitouts to advantage are.

If a significant decline, then some argument could be made that there is less congestion, resulting in less ball ups and thus less hitouts for the rucks … and maybe even lower stats for players like Oliver. The ball certainly seems to be clearing the centre much more easily and being moved quickly to defence / offense, which will also make it hard for the rucks to get into position to accumulate stats as easy. – perhaps our wonderful statistician in Adam may be able to pull out some facts during the week with comparisons from this round to last year(s).

That said, there are many factors in play too – as Allsaints has pointed out, both of last years gun rucks have a badly interrupted pre-season, so that may be effecting them too.

Good question to consider – and certainly something for all to watch.

    1. Think Wilkie is the better choice with Nathan Brown back next week and likely to take the oppo’s key FWD. Wilkie more likely employed as third tall intercept (as that’s what he was recruited for), likely giving Battle a chop-out at CHB and Pierce as DEF ruck. Pierce has no tank but is probably playing tomorrow simply to combat Witts’ height.
Should score OK to generate a bit of cash, but wouldn’t field him, yet.
On Robbo’s role, I think it’s probably going to Jimmy Webster/Savage. Webster’s pre-season has been minimal, so if he can stay injury-free, could be a good pick-up after their Rd12 bye. Will need a few games before he’s up and firing tho

      Hope that helps!

      1. Yes, Thanks! So wilkie if one of them. But Now thoughts on Zerrett and Jordan Ridley(Stepping Stone), Or Stk rookie(Wilkie) and fyfe?
Do i give up my stepping stone to chase points with fyfe instead of merritt. have 3 players to go Zerritt, ridley and baily scott And i am at 1934pts.
        So basically
TU, keep how it is Zerrett will smash it with help from ridley.
TD, Um.. Fyfe really is life?

        1. Don’t ask me mate. I’ve practically got every call wrong.

          I will say this tho.

I have Ridley and don’t have Fyfe!! 😉

            1. On 1714 with just Steele, Ridley, Whitfield and ZWilliams to play. Captain already paid.

Be happy to make 2k from here, but you never know!

What I do know is I won’t be changing my team. Picked them all for a reason. Won’t be making any trades next week either. Maybe shuffle the onfield rookies, but happy with all of them to be honest!

Reckon you’re tracking real well mate so I’d just roll with it. Good luck whatever you decide!
