Game Notes: Collingwood has had the upper hand in recent Anzac Day contests but enters this year’s clash in some trouble due to its indifferent start to the season. The Pies were ordinary in their loss to St Kilda last weekend, after failing to back up their tight away win over Sydney the previous round. But they might get to see recruit Daniel Wells for the first time at senior level after the ex-Kangaroo returned in the VFL last round. Essendon, according to coach John Worsfold, has “hit the wall” after its brilliant beginning to the season. Its past two performances have been lacklustre, and have left the Bombers 2-2 after four rounds. But Worsfold will be hoping the huge crowd can lift his side back to the quick, explosive and dangerous line-up that tore apart Hawthorn in round one.

  4. I have a suggestion. Lets bring in a guy who is well over 200 cm played 3 years of afl on a soaking wet mcg. That should work

  6. Don’t understand the point of the score review system. Nothing in that replay showed that it was touched so it should be called a goal.

    1. He has to be carrying a injury, he made a few mistakes that i’ve never seen before. He could’nt pick up the ball late into the second. Saying that i would’nt write him off just yet.

  9. I didn’t think you could be any more of a flog Eagle….but you went and proved me wrong. Absolute stupid thing to say….just shows your complete ignorance of the purpose of what was being done with those visits. You know….it’s better to be thought a fool then to open your mouth and prove it!!!!!!

      1. Assuming it’s the comment that I’m thinking of (which has since been deleted), he suggested that the bookies had colluded with the umpires to rig the game for Essendon.

        1. Cloke would not help at all. We want to kick straight and apply defensive pressure those were probably the 2 worst aspects of Cloke’s game.

  13. Baffling game from Buckley
Brought in a 7 foot ruckman on a wet day
Played ball magnet Taylor Adams as a forward pocket
Played HFF Hoskin-Elliot as a halfback
And what is up with Pendles?

    1. Thought WHE got swung back after he barely touched it for 3 quarters. Playing on Tippa to learn how to get his hands on the ball should have helped him you’d think – but then he torched it when he got it back there.

      1. Yeah, that’s a good point. The other moves were all nonsense though.

WHE seems cooked from a Supercoach perspective – BE will exceed his 3GA next week, time to go

    2. To be honest, I can’t think that the selection of Cox was anything bar political, the poor bloke was trying his heart out as a fish out of water. Picking a 7 footer in wet conditions is a death nell and as Buckley’s incapable of developing players especially ones that don’t have a natural aptitude for the game. Another club will do better with him, best he goes there.

  16. Should just push 2300 with Treloar, Howe and WHE.
Good to see Treloar playing well but mostly the pies were abysmal.

    1. As a Carlton fan, it feels a bit weird to be saying nice things about Malthouse (it’s still too soon!), but I will certainly grant that his gameplan would likely suit these sorts of conditions very well.

  17. Surprised Howe didn’t score better to be honest.

    30 Possessions (21 kicks, 9 handballs) @ 70%
    10 Contested
8 Marks (some contested and intercepted)
    1 tackle
    4 clangers

Thought he might’ve done better than a 108, although I’ll definitely take it.

(Hurleys 107 from 25 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles seems like a clearly worse game, but oh well)

  18. McNeice looks like a reasonable downgrade target in 2 weeks. Given he’s mature age rookie I presume he’ll be cheap and he looked more then serviceable.

    Problems at Collingwood though..
