Game Chat – Brisbane vs North Melbourne

Written by Thommo on August 4 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: the Gabba, Saturday, August 4, 2.10pm AEST

The Kangaroos face another tricky assignment to keep their finals hopes alive, this week taking on the dangerous Lions. When the teams met at the same venue in round 23 last year, it was to see who would finish last, but this time around there’s much more on the line. North Melbourne continued to walk the finals tightrope with a crucial win over West Coast last Sunday, led superbly by the brilliant midfield of Ben Cunnington, Paul Ahern and Shaun Higgins, the latter of whom will miss this clash after knee surgery. The Lions slipped on their recent hot streak last weekend, losing to Geelong by seven goals, but the scoreline flattered the hosts. Brisbane has shown flair with the ball and been a tough opponent all season, particularly at the Gabba. Although the Kangaroos have had the upper hand in this contest of late, winning comfortably earlier this season, this should be a close encounter.

R11, 2018: North Melbourne 21.15 (141) d Brisbane 12.15 (87) at Etihad Stadium
R23, 2017: North Melbourne 19.16 (130) d Brisbane 11.13 (79) at the Gabba
R2, 2016: North Melbourne 17.15 (117) d Brisbane 11.17 (83) at the Gabba
R17, 2015: North Melbourne 16.14 (110) d Brisbane 5.8 (38) at the Gabba
R2, 2015: North Melbourne 20.13 (133) d Brisbane 7.9 (51) at Etihad Stadium

Thommo’s Tip: North by 10 points

      1. I’d bench A. Last week was an anomaly, not the norm. There are a few who’ve said it on here this week.
        Good luck.

  2. So I had McCluggage on field last week and he got 36, whereas Ahern was on bench and got 124, so I sub Ahern on for McCluggage, now McCluggage gets 139 on bench with no loophole options and Ahern 43 on field, f**k supercoach

  3. Cam Rayner threw that game away.

With that distance, that angle, you go back and line up and do a punt.

Trying to make it showy so he could prove he deserved his high draft pick.

You know how you prove your high draft pick? By going back taking your time, and ice the game with a simple punt from 25 out any of us could kick 9 times out of 10, let alone a professional footballer.

    1. agreed HH, a bad rookie mistake, interesting watching Fagan talk to him at end of game….hopefully he puts ego aside and uses (undoubted) talent and next time slots it…in interim, as North supporter…I breathe again….

  4. I’m a long time Roos fan and I said to my kids..when we were 4goals+ up last quarter….watch us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory…..we have such a habit of underperforming against lower ranked teams….no disrespect to Brisbane, they’re playing well atm, but North has a history of this…..lucky….
