AFLW Finals Fantasy Wrap-up.

Written by The Salamander on March 24 2020

I wasn’t expecting to have to write this for another couple of weeks, but with the remainder of the AFLW finals series officially cancelled (*very sad salamander noises*), that means the same is true for our fantasy competition.

The top ten most popular selections to the end of round 5.

Fantasy considerations aside, spare a thought for the supporters of the four would-be Preliminary Finalists: Carlton hasn’t won a flag since 1995, North Melbourne hasn’t won one since 1999, Melbourne hasn’t won one since 1964, and Fremantle hasn’t won one full stop. All four clubs are probably feeling like this right now:

Especially Carlton. Because we were clearly going to win. 😉

But, as there will be no AFLW premier for 2020, so too will it be for the AFLW SCT Cup.

Preliminary Final results:

• Manildra Mystix ORFFW (1862) def by Smooth as …. (2007)

• DeeMystifying Demons (1897) def by La Salamandre@SCT (1945)

It would have been a great Grand Final matchup – there was only one point separating La Salamandre@SCT and Smooth as …. for the combined home-and-away and finals series.

The coach of Smooth as …. seems to have forgotten to enter the AFLW league, so doesn’t show up on the global finals leaderboard, but would be 4th based on the weekend’s efforts, so congratulations on that one.

Before I finish up, it would be remiss of me not to thank the awesome people at ShePlays for reaching out to me to collaborate on this. I think you’ll all agree that they’ve taken the AFLW Fantasy experience to the next level. They also run fantasy competitions for various women’s soccer leagues, too, so if you’re a fan of fantasy soccer, you should definitely check that out, once global sport gets back up and running again.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has participated this year. I hope you’ve all enjoyed playing this as much as I’ve enjoyed helping to run it. Much like the AFLW itself, the AFLW Fantasy just keeps on going from strength to strength each year, so I look forward to doing it all over again in 2021.

  1. Glad to say that we got a few weeks of supercoach in with the AFLW. Having to plan trades and whether or not to go for a 100 point punishment for making more than 2 trades each week. Was a good feeling that we good some competition.

It cannot be ignored though, a massive thanks to The Salamander for all of his work on his scoring system. Without it we would have nothing to be able to score with. Plus all his setting up of a comp for us at SCtalk.
Also a big thanks for Sheplays for taking on The Salamanders system and then allowing us to make trades each week. It was well maintained and I really enjoyed it this year.

Hope it everything is back in order next year so we can get another great year of AFLW Supercoach!
