AFLW Teams – Rd1

Written by Schwarzwalder on February 1 2018

To better assist us with the Inaugural SCT AFLW Fantasy Game, we’ll need a good look at the final line-ups for Rd1.  Let’s see who can get them into Comments section first……….

Thanks to Jack & Adam for the teams! Get cracking on those Entry Forms, Coaches!

  2. The AFL promised they would be released at 6. It’s 6:36 and we’re still waiting. A couple of teams (like Collingwood – see Adam’s post above) have posted them through Twitter etc.

  3. Daisy Pearce named at FF, does this mean panic!!! I’m not panicking! *Hyperventilating *

These teams are so crucial for a dead team. Just because they are named in a certain position doesn’t mean they will play there as they may not even play a FF or a pocket. It is creating mind games

    1. As in the men’s league, I wouldn’t read too much into where a player is listed on the team sheet. (Real-world) coaches tend to view it as a formality nowadays.

      1. I haven’t changed anything from where players are named but these rookies that are named round 1 could be their only game and that is where most the concern is

        1. Indeed. As I said in another thread, this could be the thing that makes or breaks a lot of seasons. Make sure to do your homework on your draftees, people!

    1. I can guarantee everyone that Jack sent me his completed team two hours before the deadline to make sure everything remains ‘kosher’. It will be posted tomorrow morning…….

  6. I think it was Iilish Ross who got the lock down role on Vescio. Considering how good a job Ross done. Vescio still put a handy 72 points on the board.

      1. I had both her and Georgia Gee! 🙁

Suffice it to say I’m really wishing I had started Chloe Molloy.

I said in another thread that I wasn’t brave enough to stick a rookie in the midfield; later I decided that I was brave enough after all. So far, I’m regretting that bravery – Sophie Li’s 38 is not quite the 80-100 I was banking on when I put her at M8. So much for being more reliable than a FWD or DEF rookie! 64 % TOG probably didn’t help her cause, and, in any case, it’s best not to read too much into one score – Carlton ex-captain Lauren Arnell managed just 7 points last night (she averaged 80-something last yaer), so there’s no reason to think she can’t improve significantly on that. Having 4 of her 7 disposals contested was good start. Her DE was only in the 40s, but if memory serves me right, she only had one clanger. Throw in her 3 tackles and her serious pace (this girl is quick), and the fact that she’s mostly playing on-ball, and there’s certainly upside. I’ll give it another week or two before I call this selection a total bust. Still, it’s safe to assume that Ellie Blackburn wouldn’t have caused me these headaches.

          1. Her much-hyped move into the midfield lasted just one quarter, too. Still, as I said before, I wouldn’t read too much into one performance. It’s possible that she just doesn’t play well against Carlton (we had her measure last year, too).

            2

            0
        1. Big debut from GWS draftee Courtney Gum. I actually thought very seriously about sticking her in the midfield too… looks like she might have been a better choice than Li.

Stupid brain telling me not to risk starting a 36-year-old inside mid!

          3

    1. Vescio is brilliant enough to make an impact even when she isn’t kicking goals.

There’s a reason why her badge is pinned to my Carlton scarf.

      2

  7. Phillips a late out and Paxman looking like taking no further part in the game. A couple of my top liners, but I’d assume that most likely the 16 other teams would have selected them as well.

    6

    0
    1. Massive call leaving Paxman out. A ballsy move, but may get you ahead of the pack if she misses a couple more games.

    1. Not weekly, but I am going to try and put one up every few weeks.

As far as weekly updates go, I can certainly keep posting the SalamanderCoach scores from each game if people are interested.

    2. We’ve tentatively agreed to two updates before the final tally is calculated. Maybe after Rd2&5? Don’t want to overload the young fella……

    1. I think it’s safe to say the 3 votes went to Daisy Pearce.

A magnificent debut from Erin Hoare, too; the Demons’ resident PhD looks as though she’s taken over the number #1 ruck role at the club. Congratulations to those who picked her.

    2. By the way, ‘Jessica Dal’ should be ‘Jessica Dal Pos’. Bloody Excel!

Speaking of Ms Dal Pos, 25 points is a tad less than I was hoping for… my team is not starting terribly well.

    3. Sorry to do this to you, but the above scores are ever-so-slightly off. I’m not 100 % sure what happened… I’ll put it down to teething issues. Whatever it was, I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again. You’ll be pleased to know that the real scores are typically within around ± 2 or 3 points of the above ones.

    1. Sorry for the delay in getting these up.

Finally, some good news for my team! A monster 171 for Frederick-Truab, 140 for Randall, and 131 for Marinoff, plus a very nice 113 for Zielke and a fantastic 98 on debut for draftee Ruth Wallace. Of course, by this point the fantasy gods had realised that things were going just a bit too well for me in this match, so they gave Perkins a 24.
