Let’s hope those who ignored the Josh Glenn advisory panel and went early on a couple of rookies aren’t too disappointed this week. There’s talk that we might be in a couple of instances!!

State league affiliate: Adelaide (SANFL)
This weekend: West Adelaide v Adelaide – Saturday, June 8, 3.10pm, City Mazda Stadium

Midfielder Bryce Gibbs responded to his latest omission with 29 touches, a goal and seven clearances in Adelaide’s six-point win in the SANFL on Saturday.

The only Adelaide player with more of the ball was rookie Patrick Wilson (MID, $147 700), who had 38 disposals and eight clearances.

Midfielder Myles Poholke kicked 1.1 from 22 touches, while small forward Tyson Stengle finished with 2.1.

Again, ruckman Sam Jacobs had a big game; won 30 hitouts, kicked a goal and had 15 touches as he continues his comeback from a serious knee injury.

ROUND11

Ruckman Sam Jacobs put on a clinic in his return from a serious knee injury in the SANFL, kicking five goals from 20 disposals and winning 28 hit-outs.

Youngster Myles Poholke also proved a handful up forward, kicking 4.1 and collecting 20 touches in Adelaide’s 31-point win.

Forward Elliott Himmelberg responded to his omission with 2.1 and eight marks, while fellow omission Chayce Jones collected 21 touches and won a game-high 10 clearances.

Veteran Richard Douglas was dominant with 31 disposals and a goal.

Verdict: After ROB’s decent performance in a win last week, you’d think he’ll hold his spot … Wighty

ROUND11

State league affiliate: Northern Blues (VFL)
This weekend: Essendon v Northern Blues – Sunday, June 2, 11.40am, Windy Hill

Banished veteran Dale Thomas has presented a strong case for immediate reinstatement to the Carlton side by being one of the best players afield in the Northern Blues’ 41-point loss to Essendon in the VFL.

Thomas, who was sent back to the VFL after breaking the Blues’ alcohol rules, amassed a game-high 32 possessions (22 kicks and 10 handballs), including 12 touches in a busy first term, along with seven rebounds from the defensive arc and five tackles in a hard-running half-back role.

However, he received little support, with young defender Angus Schumacher (19), small forward Cameron Polson (18 and a goal) and key defender Hugh Goddard serviceable.

First-year forward Ben Silvagni had a quiet day but provided a rare highlight for Blues fans with a nice goal in the breezy conditions.

Verdict: if Murphy passes fit, you’d think his inclusion at the expense of O’Brien will be it for the victorious Blues this week!

COLLINGWOOD

ROUND12

State league affiliate: Collingwood (VFL)
This weekend: Casey Demons v Collingwood – Sunday, June 9, 2.10pm, Casey Fields

Dumped veteran Ben Reid responded well to his omission as he booted two goals and collected 15 disposals during the Pies’ 63-point loss to the Casey Demons.

This weekend: Port Melbourne v Collingwood – Sunday, June 2, 2pm, Adcon Stadium

Midfield bull Brayden Sier has mounted a strong case for promotion after a prolific display in a 42-point loss to VFL team Port Melbourne.

Sier, who was a member of Collingwood’s Grand Final charge last year but is yet to play an AFL game this season, accumulated a game-high 34 possessions (14 kicks and 20 handballs), including 22 in the first half.
In a team that conceded 8.6 to nil in the last quarter, the Pies had serviceable performers in runners
Josh Daicos (20), Ben Crocker (19), Tim Broomhead (17 and a goal), Isaac Quaynor (17), Tyler Brown (18) on return from injury and Rupert Wills (18) after senior omission.

Earlier, injury-plagued defender Matt Scharenberg, in his comeback game after overcoming a third knee reconstruction, made it through his allotted two quarters and collected 13 possessions – the second-most for the Pies behind Sier in the first half.

Verdict: COL have the bye this week.

Mid-season draftee Will Snelling (MID, $117 300) made an immediate impact in his first game for the Bombers in their 41-point VFL win over the Northern Blues.

The 21-year-old midfielder, whom Essendon recruited from SANFL club West Adelaide on Monday, collected 23 possessions, including eight contested, as well as five tackles and four inside 50s in an impressive first-up showing.

Experienced onballer David Myers also kept his name in the selection frame after a superb performance in which he gathered 26 possessions, 14 of them contested, along with 11 of his team’s 34 clearances, four tackles and two great goals.

Young defender Brandon Zerk-Thatcher was also influential with 21 possessions and 10 marks, seven of them of the intercept variety, and was well supported in the back half by the likes of Jordan Ridley (19), Marty Gleeson (22) and Michael Hartley (18).

Teenage rookie Trent Mynott had 24 touches while small forward Brayden Ham kicked a game-high three goals and Jordan Houlahan slotted two, one of them coming after he hauled in a screamer.

Verdict: If Shiel, Orazio and Stringer all pass fit, then you’d think they’ll all come in. If Clarke is dropped after last week’s effort then he’ll be VERY unlucky. Woosha will not commit!

Scott Selwood and Zach Guthrie pressed their claims for senior call-ups in the Cats’ last-gasp, one-point win over VFL rival Footscray in a low-scoring affair in inclement weather at Whitten Oval.

  1. Players who rack up huge numbers in NEAFL tend to be 20-25 touch players in more competitive VFL.

Also Adam (The Death Adder) are you the same Adam who provides Captaincy Projection statistics?

    Cheers

    1. They are different Adam’s.
TheDeathAdder (TDA) is Hard At It @SCT in SuperCoach and does all things in the Twitter-sphere to help promote this awesome site.
Adam (our freak statistician) runs the numbers on just about EVERYTHING and is known as Adam’s All Stars @SCT in SuperCoach.
Both are shining lights when it comes to SCT.

Hope that clears that one up?! 🙂

      1. Yep, big fans of both of their work. For a second was a little astounded and confused that one bloke could do so much, but them being seperate blokes, albeit both brilliant, makes sense.

  2. “Greene likely IN for Haynes” Ok then who actually will come in, as we all know what the word likely means for injuries at GWS 😉

    1. Funny. Likely is actually my guess. GWS tend to use the word ‘expected’ in their pressers. A LOT.
      Neither mean anything!!
