Badger’s Rookie Review

Written by Badger on July 14 2015

Finally! A high scoring week for Supercoach teams, some who even found themselves losing with a score of 2469. Again, we’re back to stuff all realistic rookie-priced choices.

If you have enough trades and you’re not one of the 38% that already has Jack Steele…get him. I don’t know of too many players that have racked up 16 contested possessions, two contested marks and five clearances in just their third game. What a gun!

Caleb Daniel has looked pretty good in his first two games and we can only hope he holds his spot with some of the VFL team performing very well the last couple rounds.

There are other options of course – some who scored well on the weekend in their first game or made improvements on previous performances. Most are mentioned in the Notes section.

DEFENDERS:

N/A

Notes:

Tom Fields ($102.4K) played well on the weekend with a score of 68 from 10 disposals at 90% efficiency, five marks, six tackles and a free for. More details next week if he plays well again.

Brayden Maynard ($117.3K DEF/MID) has played a couple decent games in a row now and with DEF/MID eligibility he’s worth considering if selected for Round 16 and you need the cash. Scored 66 with 18 disposals, four marks, two tackles and a free for.

MIDFIELDERS:

Jack Steele GWS, $195.7K, 2014 Draft Pick 24, 19 years/187cm/86kg

Jack Steele really highlighted on the weekend why he was rated so highly. He amassed an amazing 16 contested possessions among six kicks and 14 handballs at 65% disposal efficiency, three marks (two contested), six tackles, two frees for, a hitout, a goal, five clearances and an inside 50. Fantastic effort for a 19 year old playing his third game and shows just how tough he is and will be. Jumped up by nearly 80 grand but still worth it if you’re one of the 62% that don’t yet own him. Owned by 38%

Nick O’Brien ($178.6K) has improved in each of his first three games and scored 87 on the weekend from 19 disposals, three marks, five tackles and four clearances.

Kane Lambert ($140.6K MID/FWD) scored 40 from just 26% game time with 11 disposals, five marks, two tackles and two frees for. If he could score that quickly across four quarters everyone would have him.

RUCKS:

N/A

Consider:

Rory Lobb, Tom Downie, Keegan Brooksby (or Andrew Phillips if selected)

FORWARDS:

Caleb Daniel WB, $117.3K, 2014 Draft Pick 46, 19 years today/167cm/63kg

Daniel followed up his massive efforts as starting sub in Round 14 with a decent game scoring 67 from eight kicks and eight handballs at 63% efficiency (six contested possessions), four marks, five tackles, three frees for and one against, a clearance and an inside 50. Hopefully holds his place but there’s some good eggs in the VFL with Dale, Biggs and Jong playing well in the Dogs last VFL outing. Koby Stevens injury against the Suns may increase his chances of remaining in the seniors.

Jack Steele GWS, $195.7K, 2014 Draft Pick 24, 19 years/187cm/86kg – See Midfield write up.

Notes:

Riley Knight ($123.9K) was impressive in his first game scoring 72 points from 13 disposals at 92% efficiency, five marks, three tackles, a free for and two goals.

Taylor Garner ($123.9K, pick 15 in the 2012 draft) had five scoring shots on the weekend with two goals and three behinds and scored 66 points from 12 disposals and two marks.

Kane Lambert ($140.6K MID/FWD) scored 40 from just 26% game time with 11 disposals, five marks, two tackles and two frees for. If he could score that quickly across four quarters everyone would have him.

Good luck in the remaining four games of our fantasy season before Supercoach finals kick off Round 20.

Cheers

  1. Isn’t their only 3 more rounds and Supercoach finals start Round 19?
If you’re playing for rank then trades have to last you to Rd,23.
If you’re only concerned with League win , Grand Final is Rd.22.
