Breaking Even – Rd5

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 26 2016

A new feature of SuperCoachTalk this year……..the Breakevens.  We’ve shortlisted the most SC-relevant players for you as a handy guide.  If you need to find some more BEs, check out Nath’s fine stats page (left of screen or CLICK HERE) and use the search function.  Please note that players with long-term injuries have been removed from the list below.

It was a unanimous decision last week to take on Chillo’s Breakevens set-up (even I voted for it!).  Please take note of how Chillo has set up the format (thanks again, Chillo!). Basically, each section is in order of Breakeven value from lowest to highest for the coming Round of matches.

For the Supercoach newbies out there, the Breakeven is the score needed by each player to hold his price.  If they score above that Breakeven value, their $$ value will rise.  If they score below that Breakeven point, they will lose value.  There’s a lot of numbers here, please excuse me if I’ve missed something.  Let me know and I’ll update it.  If you have any questions about Breakevens, please use the Forum below and I’m sure our friendly SCT Community will help out.

  1. Thanks for this, makes finding B/E’s easier.

Looking at upgrading Bennedy next week so these breakevens work in my favor..

    T/U: Priddis
    T/D: Ward

    1. Essendon playing Carlton next week, makes me have some faith in Dea. Has been serviceable but will likely struggle in games where they get flogged like this week.

  2. I’m wondering what people think about Weitering? Should he be cut first, given he has the highest breakeven of all the defensive rookies (B/E of 79). At $366K, he is worth $56K more than Dea, so gives more options.

So question is who to trade this week (Fyfe being the other):

    T/U: Weitering
    T/D: Dea

    1. Had the same issue. I don’t think either of them are going to make much more cash, so I’ve cut Weitering this week for the reason you mentioned, and aim to downgrade Dea next week.

    1. I have Priddis already, thinking Sidey for Fyfe, he was in and out of my team in the pre-season. Who would I pick first if I didn’t have either, probably Priddis, just.

  3. What does everyone think of Tom Lee for a DEF downgrade for either Dea or Weitering?

Was a pretty good mobile / key forward in the WAFL in Perth before the Saints used a pretty high draft pick on him. Has really struggled with injury and form over the past couple of years, but has been used in defence since last year.

From what I have seen of him, he should have pretty good DE, but probably won’t get a heap of the footy.

    1. Lee is a popular downgrade option this week, I’m just not sold on him at the moment. Maybe Darcy Tucker is a better option next week? Or 2-metre-Peter next week?
As for Weitering, personally he’s one of the last rookies I’ll be trading out (regardless of his current BE). Job security is not a worry and he’s averaging the same or better than a lot of so-called DEF premos. If you simply have to trade then I’d look at Dea first………
