BS Rookie Review Round 10

Written by Big Sexy on May 31 2011

I told you last week Lynch and Jacobs were the keepers….. hope you listened.
My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:
1) T Mzungu (Mid/Fwd 110k) Touted as a must-have rookie of the pre-season. Mzungu damaged his medial ligament and missed the first 8 rounds. In round nine he was the sub and we didn’t get a ‘real’ look at him…. But in round 10, we got a better look and his 14 kicks, 10 handballs 5 marks and 2 tackles means he has the x-factor that validates his pre-season must have status with 77 SC points. Mzungz is a 24yo mature age rookie who has played a number of years for Perth in the WAFL and his best season in 2010. His Mid-Fwd dual position flexibility also adds to his value.
2) B Jacobs (Mid/Def 153k) Still great value – Last Chance! Jacobs was Ports first choice in last years draft and I believe would have been set to play round 1, if it wasn’t for a bout of glandular fever. Jacobs starred for Vic Metro last year averaging 29 possies a game. Jacobs is back and has just played his third game getting another 13 possies, 3 marks, 1 goal and 5 tackles and a respectable 66 SC points. His Mid-Def dual position flexibility also adds to his value.
3) M Hibberd (Mid/Def 154k) Coming off the Bye – Hibberd is an alternate to Jacobs. Hibberds third run on the rookie review, but still great value at 154k. I’m still a little concerned he hasn’t had more opportunity since two permanent spots opened for the Bombers with Dempsey and Winderlich’s ACL’s. I’m still not 100% sure about his job security, but Hocking being suspended for 3 weeks will help, so hopefully wont be forced out when Hurley returns. This was the best of his three games racked up a lazy 75 points.
4) J McCarthy (Mid 171k) McCarthy isn’t exactly a bargain basement priced rookie…. But gee’s he scoring well with 83 and 87 in his first two games. He’s had 20 and 16 disposals in his first two games scored goals in both and layed 4 tackles in both….. so if he was a 110k rookie, I’d be saying he’s an absolute must have, but his price makes him a little awkward. Anyway, there are plenty of Pies fans out there so McCarthy may be the man for you, and based on his first two games he won’t let you down.
5) L Delaney (Def 103k) Delaney is Rookie-Listed for the Kanga’s and at 194cm he’s not exactly small, he joined the Kanga’s coming from North Ballarat in the VFL. He has been solid in both games with 9 and 7 disposals, a couple of marks and 3 followed by 4 tackles in each of his two games….. He got 77 and 56 SC points in his first two games…. He’s a option!

Special mention: For those of you thinking about getting another emergency Ruck, or cashing in Zak Smith on your bench then keep your eye on Nathan Vardy…. He has tons of mobility, and he reminds me of Mumford the way he just gives every bit of what he has to offer…. The only negative is that he will be number 2 to Ottens, and with only 3 on the bench I can’t see the cats going with two rucks, unless they look to drop Mooney or Hawkins which is altogether possible.

Here is the rookie data for you to analyse in your spare time, and form your own opinions:

  1. What do you guys think of a straight swap Darling to Didak?

His scores arent premium at the moment, his last 3 round avg is 54!

    But 09 & 10 he avg 100+

Is there a reason his scores are down? Or just a form slump?

    Thoughts & Opinions?

  2. D Mac maybe wait until after Colingwoods next bye. Darling is playing G Coast at Patersens Stadium this week could have a good week see how Darling goes this week if he gets a score your not happy with and your happy with Didak’s score maybe go for it but you want money though to but Darling’s price is going up and probably going to keep going up but it’s your choice what to do I am not forceing you to do anything your choice thanks.

  3. I’ve already got too many freo players for my liking, so I’m going I smith instead of mzungu I think. Even though I’m mainly playing for league win I still want to be as competitive as possible. My only question is, will smith play as many games as mzungu?

  4. Bs do you think Tom libb is ripe for culling? Has Geelong at skilled so I Dought he will meet his break-even. I could ieither go him/matera to mzungu but If I go libba down it adds another mpp in the midfield in addition to prestia

  5. I’m really hoping I Smith gets a run this week, if he’s named he’ll have a few weeks to earn some dosh and adds extra flexibility to be subbed with Mzungu in the mids.

  6. If we all transfer Mzungu in this week, then who is available next week as a downgrade or the week after?

Should we be doing two downgrades this week (Mzungu and Smith) and then the double upgrade next week?

  7. I got rid of Matera and Tapscott last week for I.Smith & Chapman.

I’m in a bit of strife at the moment with 12 trades left and plenty of changes that need to be made by finals.

    Team is
Def – Shaw, Goddard, Gibbs, Delidio, Heppell, Lower, Duigan

    L.Thompson, Markovic, Toy

    Mid – Swan, Judd, J.Selwood, J.Corey, Cotchin, D.Swallow

    Conca, I.Smith, Gaff

    Ruc – Sandilands, Petrie

    Smith, Cordy

Fwd – Franklin, Sylvia, Chapman, N Roo, J Roo, Dawes, Dangerfield

    (C.Richardson, Retzlaff, Talia)

  8. Hey BS, howd you see Nicholson’s game? very couragous if you ask me. Played well considering the time he had to react to his first game of AFL On another note Cowan played and scored well in his 1 and a half quarters.

  9. Any Blues fans out there can give us some background on the young Irish recruit Tuohy?

Any chance he can free up Gibbs a bit in his tagging roles?
