BS Rookie Review Round 13

by Big Sexy on June 26, 2012

Be sure and check out Nath’s SC STATS (on top menu) complete with all Break Evens and player stats with simple search functions.  Now with NEW functionality to load up your own team and check out you personalised team-stats.

My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:

1)    H Crozier (Mid/Fwd 131k) Crozier looked great at the start of the game this week, but faded hard, however, he’s still a cheap DPP.  Crozier had the 11 disposals with 4 marks and a tackle for an ordinary score of 40. His previous two scores were 62 and 21.

2)    S Gibson (Mid $94k) Gibson spent a ridiculous amount of time in the green vest and scored a total of 9 points…. So I couldn’t give top billing despite his 94k price tag.  I will give you a reminder that Gibson is a mature age rookie who was highly rated during the NAB Cup.  It took him a while to get his first run, and after three season on the Hawks rookie list.  Gibson’s first run saw him get 18 disposals and took 5 marks finishing with 56.

3)    T Hine (Def 113k)  Hine just had the bye, and has just played the one game, but he also played a solitary game way back in round 11 last year.  In his first run of 2012 Hine had 16 disposals, a couple of marks and a couple of tackles topped off with a goal reaping a reasonable 50.  Wait another week if you can, but he is a defensive option if you’re desperate.

4)    T Campbell (Ruck $94k) With dip-stick Minson coming back I don’t expect Campbell will get another run…… but he did smash out a sensational 89 points and had 11 disposals with 4 marks.  He’s just a filla in the rook-review as likely to have poor JS.

5)    J Patton (Fwd 196k) He was the number 1 draft pick, and continually likened to Brown-dog, it’s clear he will be a good player given time.  He will likely have great JS as he will be given every opportunity.  He’s been pretty solid with 7 & 8 disposals in his first two runs combined with a goal and 2 tackles in each game saw him get scores of 62 and 63…. But…. and there is a HUGE ‘BUT’, his starting price of $196k removes any value whatsoever…. So again, he’s a rook-review filla.  Then again, it depends what you’re looking for.

If you’re travelling north to see Melbourne take on Brisbane this weekend, there are plenty of cheap Brisbane hotels still available if you’ve left your booking until the last minute!

I know Campbell has low JS, but I need to downgrade Giles. Is there any better option now or in coming weeks that anyone is aware of?

Short answer….. is no.

Unfortunately not a lot on offer in the Rookie ruck stocks right now.

yeah was quite suprise how well tom campbell played against brisbane , could get a gig over ayce cordy next week . Even if minson comes back this week , campbell should retain his spot . should be a good down grade target in the next couple of weeks .

If I remember correctly he played quite well in the NAB cup. Could play predominantly forward with Minson and Roughead/Cordy rotating between the ruck and up forward.

Okay, can someone clarify for me has Patton been getting those scores in about 2 & half quarters before being subbed off,? think with a bit of match fitness under his belt will provide a great F7 and is actually great value at that price. The only thing I’m not sure of is his match time minutes, where do I find that ?

He played the full game in RD12 and was subbed off in the 3rd quarter on the weekend.

Personally I wouldn’t be happy with him as an F7 going into finals. Rookie key forwards are always a worry and despite how good he already looks you have to wonder how much of the footy he will see with the Giants fading as the year goes on. Bench cover at best.

Good point fish, forgot about the fade out factor, might have to reassess

Get a copy of this weeks Fantasy Freako (which is not available yet) and you will see the overall TOG% (Time On Ground). Last week he had 81% TOG.

This one’s primarily for Nathan, our resident stats guy, but if anyone else can shed some light on this please do.

I’m curious about the differences between the breakevens on different SC related websites.

Picking a player at random i picked Sam Shaw.

Five different websites have his BE at:
SCTalk – 16
Too Serious – 20
YSCC – 22
Fan Footy – 22
Footy Wire – 22

I’m really curious to know the reason behind the difference and which website is the most accurate. I hope it’s SCTalk but i just want to know with a level of accuracy.

Hey Roo Bloke
It relates to an ever moving “fudge factor” that is incorporated into the algorithm. Depending on the fudge factor is what number you get and the different sites try to guess the number. What I try to do is align to Supercoach Gold. So Sam Shaw BE is 16 in Supercoach Gold and 16 on SCT. There are some variations but hopefully SCT is within 2 or 3 of Gold – 5 worse case. I am most interested of wider variations because that might mean something else is amiss.

Honestly RB, does it really matter? There is a difference of 6 points… is that really going to affect your choice of keeping or trading a player?!

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 6

Don – no, not going to effect my trading at all but like i said (twice) in the original response, i’m curious about why there is a variance at all

Nath – thanks for clearing it up, sorta ;)

S.Shaw got injured same time as Tippet (2ndQtr). They had him down the rooms & patched him up to finish the game, but was just making up numbers as Tippet had already been subbed out. Could still be a chance to play this week, but defo follow closely.

You know that i was so absorbed in North actually playing decent footy for the first time since Rnd 3 that i forgot that i had Swallow, Dangerfield & Shaw out there scoring points for my SC team until the last five minutes of the game.

Tommy Couch looks unlikely (probably for the first time this season) to get a game for the Dees after a pretty poor performance in the two’s…

I really want him to get a game!

If he doesn’t play, can we get him for $94,700 again next year? What about if he plays?

I’m tipping he plays

30-40 touches doesn’t get a game at the Dees, but as soon as you knock out 5-10 AUTOMATIC SELECTION
