BS Rookie Review Round 13

by Big Sexy on June 21, 2011

Having been hit by winter bug and home on my death-bed, a very brief rook-review… but better than nothing.

If you saw any of the rookies in action on the weekend, please feel free to share you insight in the comments.

My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:
1) J Howe (Fwd 175k) The Howe ship has started to sail, this week was another 21 disposals 12 marks, and kicked 2.1. He smashed out 107 points this week.
2) I Smith (Mid/Fwd 179k) I’ve learnt my lesson about pumping up Hawk rookies, as Clarko is going to send them back to the magoo’s quickly. Anyway, Smith finally got his third run after I broke one of my main rules and traded him in after one game. Smith didn’t disappoint in his return match, getting 21 touches, taking 9 marks, kicking 2 goals and lying 1 tackle. He also smashed out 107 points.
3) D Nicholson (Mid/Def 148k) A rookie listed player clearly having his best game getting 21 touches, taking 6 marks, kicking 1 goal and laying 4 tackles. He also scored 93 SC points.
4) L Dahlhaus (Fwd 99k) The long haired rookie listed Dahlhaus played a ripper for a skinny little guy. I’m not sure about his ability to back it up with a build like that. He racked up 18 touches, took 2 marks, kicked 1.1 and layed 4 tackles and scored a very respectable 69 points.
5) J Lisle (Def 110k) Lisle was a emergency for about ten weeks before finally getting a run and has now played two solid games. This week getting 15 touches and taking 6 marks, and scoring 58 points.

Here is the rookie data for you to analyse in your spare time, and form your own opinions:

With roughy out and the kids in savage, bruest, smith & pops doing there part im hopeful clarko may stick with them for at least another a few games, ladson down helps smiths case aswell. He looked good I thought.

Not to mention Buddy out this week as well D Mac. Barring injury, Smith should continue to play. Provides a lot of run accross the wing/half forward flank. I like Breust, disciplined in F50 and reminds me of Osborne.

I had a good look at Dahlhaus on Friday. Geez I thought his attack on the footy was fantastic. He was very composed when given several hospital handpasses. He is certainly someone who will give 110% and that’s all you want from your rookies.

I Smith came off the bench and did me proud this week. Considering my next opponent is yourself, I will say no more.

Duck, ive noticed your marked improvement in the last couple of weeks along with the fact you don’t have Buddy means our positions on ladder means nothing…. So I may need to swing a few changes.

Seems like we were both battling it out from our sick beds – you didn’t miss a beat, though, with your captaincy selection and you outplayed me all over the ground. I hope to get another chance but hope alone just doesn’t cut it in this caper.

Hey kb, I was pretty sure you had me done and dusted after Friday night when my rookies didn’t fire, and Otten belted out 130 for you…… The only think that saved me was Mitchel has Capt, and that Montagna let you down severely.

The SC business is getting too stressful!

List is under 200k only….. But I keep them on the list the week they jump over 200k….. That said, Pederson did play a blinder.

Hey Big Sexy, why do half of your comments have an avatar and half don’t? Are there two Big Sexy’s?

Hey Bender, It’s just because the avatar is linked to your email address, and my email linked to the web site editor is different to the one used in my comments….. so when logged into the editor I don’t get an avatar.

Off the topic a bit but Adelaide’s Scott Stevens has announced his retirement this morning and will retire at the end of the season. He continues to suffer from post-concussion syndrome.

That is bad news BK….. as much I hate some players, I have now realised the more I hate them the better the player (usually), and that I no longer wish injuries on anyone even if it benefits my SC team. Esp is career ending, that kid has prob worked his whole life to play AFL and dedicated his life to it….. only to have it taken away. Prob hard for most to really understand how he is feeling, so very sad!

Hey Scatts, You are correct, you’ll also see Masten is well under $200k…… However, my other unwritten rule is to not re-add people when they slide down under 200k, as if you can’t stay above 200k, you don’t deserver to be on the list…. would anyone seriously consider drafting Gaff or Masten at this stage? answer, no… if yes, I’m disappointed :)

Need help with these two rookies supplied by big sexy in his review.
I am downgrading Heppell this week as his price will drop further with a high break even.

D.Nicholson – thumbs up
J.Lisle – thunbs down

I am concerned over both job security, but need to choose!

And I was thinking of getting rid of Milburn coz he isnt doing great now and I dont reckon he will have a great end to the season?
so im thinking a downgrade to Strauss or Nicholson?
