Not very impressed with ‘value’ rookies up for grabs this week for a number of reasons, but we’ll work with what’s available.
So, on to my Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:
1) T Bell (Def $104k) Bell proved me wrong after his first run where he scored a very respectable 75, by not only getting another run but bettering it and smashing out a monster 93. This week he had 16 disposals with 1 goal and 7 tackles which meant poor Motts has officially run out of saliva having got a look at the young Blue bagger talent unveiled (out of necessity, rather than good coaching) recently.
2) S Frost (Def $130k) Jack’s brother seems to be about the mark picking up 10 and 11 disposals in his first two runs. Frost is a 194cm tall forward who was recruited from the Sandringham dragons. He is a little awkwardly priced, but again another option.
3) M Baguley (Mid/Def $164k) It’s that time of year when good rookies are hard to find and I thought Baugley was pretty average last week and was likely to get dropped and came out and went bang with an 83 and looked solid. Baguley had 23 disposals with 3 tackles and I know the bombers have player to return over the coming weeks but I’d suggest Baguley has brought himself another week.
4) T Hine (Def 154k) Hine has been on the radar for a while, and not exactly cementing himself in the team with a regular run. In either case, he was back in the team this week, and he took it another level and had 26 disposals and getting himself a lazy 72 big ones.
5) A Miles (Mid $176k) Snubbed by BS’s Rookie Review last week for no apparent reason other than an unjustified vendetta. Miles proved me wrong to get another run, however, could only manage a 50 coming back from his monster 93. He’s probably a little over priced now, but an option.
Keep your eye out for Couch on Thursday night selection table, there’s always hope.

M: Thompson, Joelwood, Hannebery, Murphy, Vince, Gibson (Baguley, Crozier)
R: Roughead, Hale (Pyke, Campbell)
F: Pavlich, Beams, Blair, Mayne, Zorko, Patton, Gumbleton (Wilson, Couch)
$43k left with 8 trades
I’ve put this in Rookie Review because I am thinking that I may need to downgrade to a rookie somewhere to free up cash.
Don’t panic jep99, I’,m not discarding your good suggestion of downgrading then upgrading to strengthen my forwards and weaken my rucks. I just want some other suggestions.
Thanks

Not sure who you can downgrade, but if you can free up enough cash Patton to Fyfe!

jep99 suggested downgrade Pyke to someone like Tom Derickx who doesn’t need to play, as Pyke is just sitting on my bench, which would free up cash and leave me with 311k. Then I would have 511k on which to spend on an upgrade, like Fyfe or Clancee Pearce.

Sorry, that’s my annoying brother commenting. Although what he said was true. He’s a real idiot. But he’s got a crap team, so I don’t blame him for wanting to help!

No worries Cazza loving your work over the last week. Patton to Fyfe seems like the best trade but you need money. Pyke down to no name is the best way to make money but I can understand you need security in the rucks. Most ppl if not everyone wont have that really secure R3 like yourself and if you can keep a trade for an unfortanate injury if Hale or Roughy goes down then you can save yourself if you trade Pyke.
A bit of left field advice:
#1
Patton looks to miss, you could downgrade him to Pattison a ruck/forward allowing you to move Hale into forwards and Pyke onto the field. This gives you some money to either use later or upgrade a midpricer like Mayne or Blair to a premo like Fyfe. Or even Gibson to a mid premo, or Sam Shaw to Fisher.
#2
Sam Shaw to Bell giving you some money, and Patton down to Pattison again for money to use next week to upgrade Gibson and another midpricer to full fledged premos. Getting Pattison into your forward line really strenghtens your team having a better forward line and using Pyke right now while Mumford is out.
#3
Sam Shaw down to Clifton (by putting Baguley back and onto the field) if he gets another game, he is a mature age rookie and rated quite well by a few people but only if named.

Did Pattison play last week? I though he was on the rookie list? Or do you mean I should have him on the bench?

He won’t play this year just to stay on your bench. He will allow you to swap Hale or Roughy into the forward line and Pyke onto the field. Gives you flexibility and strenghten as you use all your good players on the field and gets you to keep Pyke.

I like #1, but I’m not sure about the others. Which one would you recommend?

Yep they were all a bit left field sort of thinking out loud to see what I can do. If Sam Shaw is back then #1 if not then #2.
Next year you need to get on here alot earlier your team is full of midpricers and your rookie selection is really bad you seem to have just got any cheap player that comes around rather then wait for the really good ones (besides Zorko, Gibson and Shaw). And your Premos aren’t the top line players like Ablett, Swan, Watson and Pendlebury you need at least 2 of these if not all 4. Especially Ablett. Good luck for rest of year.

@jep99
I know, but that’s because I only joint in Rd 10, as a first year player, and I rushed into my team selection. I found that I got addicted to it, and really regretted my rookies. I’ve tried to amend my team as much as possible. I will be on here from the 1st day of preseason next year!

And if I upgrade Mayne, I can afford any FWD in the comp with about 40k left over for the most expensive one. Should I go for Sizzle, Petrie, ROK, Danger or someone else? Thanks

Because you have so many holes in your team you can’t just spend all your money on one person, so go for a cheapy like Sidebottom who is a very good choice after having a rest. Then use the rest of the cash to upgrade else where next week.

Decisions, decisions……Can i get some advice please. My team:
Backs: Deledio, Goddard, Shaw, M.Johnson, Carrots, Ellis, S.Shaw, Baguley, Townsend
Mids: Ablett, Pendles, S.Thompson, Boyd, DalSanto, J.Selwood, T.Adams,Gibson
Rucks: Cox, Giles, Redden, Campbell
Fwds: Franklin, Danger, Martin, Pavlich, Robinson, Sidey, Zorko, Patton, Murdoch
3 trades, 180k. Extremely confident of finishing top 2 in all leagues, top 4 being worst scenario.
Should i trade somewhere this week, or keep them for finals?
Any advice appreciated

I’d only consider trading out of your back line & it would probably be Ellis–>Waters but then you’d be low on $. I’d also make sure S Shaw is named in the team before you made the trade.
Moving Giles would be smart but I’d give him another 2 rounds as GWS have PA & GCFC coming up…
Given your position in all leagues I think holding tight would be a good option, if you were to trade then the players above would be the first to go.

Nice team….. a little too nice to be giving advice…… but I’d be looking at getting one extra true premium Mid…. the question is do you upgrade Zorko, or do Smith or Miles… I personally would like to keep zorko up my sleeve. So maybe Smith -> Gun then hold fire…. or just wait a week if you have a safe position.
