BS Rookie Review Round 2

Written by Big Sexy on April 9 2013

R2 rolls on by, this time I’ve deliberately got some new faces on the Top 5 board to share the love, so particular apologies to Goodes and Pittard.

My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:

1) J O’Meara (Mid $115k) The Rising Star favorite went to another level this week, the level that is expected from him by many in the footy world to maintain throughout the season (no doubt with a few down games). He was held back a year in the complex trade that saw him go to GC which has added a year of maturity. He scored a solid 72 points first up, but this week smashed it with a monstrous 120 points. This week he had 25 disposals accompanied by 5 marks and 7 point-winning tackles.

2) S Dwyer (Mid/Fwd $96k) This 26 year old rookie has been playing for Port Melbourne in the VFL where he won the B&F in 2009. He was a little patchy in his first run reflected in his 49 point return, but this week stepped up to the level required by AFL standard scoring 110 points. The stinkin’ Pies got up against the dirty stinkin’ Blues and given he was a genuine contributor, you would think his Job Security got a boost. He had 23 disposals, he took 6 marks, kicked 1.1 and layed 2 tackles in a well-rounded performance.

3) L Whitfield (Mid $199k) The number 1 draft pick in 2012, is very highly rated, despite being built like a stick-insect but will no doubt fill-out with a couple more pre seasons had a strong game. He was a very late inclusion in my team, and based on his first up run and the higher rookie price tag, I was set to show him the door this week, but he’s earned himself a reprieve. This week he had 20 disposals, took 9 marks, kicked 1.1 and took 4 tackles resulting in 100 points.

4) L Stevenson (Def $115k) Stevenson played 10 games for WC in 2010, but has walked straight into the PA defensive structure (which surprising looks to be working, albeit against weak opposition). Stevenson had 19 disposals and 66 points in round 1, and lifted his output to 22 disposals and 93 points in round 2.

5) J Neade (Mid/Fwd $115k) He’s a border-line midget at 170cm, but he’s quick and a pressure tackler. His round 1 performance included 11 disposals, 4 tackles and 57 points. In round 2, he lifted his output 15 disposals, took 5 marks, kicked 2.1 and layed 2 tackles resulting in 86 points in a much improved performance.

Here is the rookie data:

  2. No soup for you, BS ;). Sam Dwyer started as the sub in his debut. Any chance we could have a b/e table as well, BS? #cheersbigears #comeinhandy

  4. Dont know the sums and maths isn’t a strong point SO if all these rookies were to average 80 this week what would their prices jump to? Whats the idiots guide to calculating price changes…Yes I do realise what I just inferred…..

  5. I’ve got 3 out of the 5 and will have Dwyer for this round.

I just can’t fit Whitfield into my mids. I’ve already got Wines, O’Meara, Viney, KMitchell and KStevens. Mitchell to go this week with an upgrade to Cothcin or a step to LPower to generate a bit more cash before another upgrade to a premo.

Stevens will go next week for Crouch to generate some more cash.

  6. Ahahahahaha Big Sexy. Great write up!

“Built like a stick-insect” and “border-line midget” were personal highlights.

  7. Got all the top rookies except for Whitfield and Brown. Very happy that I dont have to sideways trade any rookies yet. 30 trades remain in the bank!

  8. Like most have 4 outa 5 of these guys with “The Stick-Insect” not making the cut.

Pretty happy with my team and going to keep the faith with Danger, M Murphy and Zorko so my trades this week are about making some $$$ in the coming weeks.

    Im thinking
Karnesis ==> S Rowe (frees up some cash and also allows me to link up with Cox in the rucks)
K Mitchell ==> B Crouch (With an average of 14 after 2 games he isnt going up in value anytime soon and thinking Crouch looked very good first up and will hopefully keep his spot)

Thoughts? The other option is to downgrade to Rowe but then upgrade Danger, Zorko or Murphy to a Pendles or Selwood….
