BS Rookie Review Round 4

Written by Big Sexy on April 23 2013

My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:

1)    M Evans (Mid $115k) I feel a sorry for the Dee’s, so I’ve taken sympathy and given Evans top billing after his weekends performance despite the fact it was against the witches hats and despite the fact his team will go back to being smashed again next week (most likely along with his scores).  Evans is also one of the few decent rookies on the magical 2 game number.  Evans had two hip operations in 2012, and is now back up and rolling.  He played ok in his first game against the Eagles getting 14 possies, kicked 1.1 and layed 3 tackles resulting in 48 points.  This week he had 20 disposals, took 7 marks kicked 3.1 netting him a monstrous 116 points

2)    S Mayes (Mid/Fwd $164k) A Mid/Fwd DPP taken at pick 8 in last year’s draft and has played senior football for North Adelaide.  Mayes had 21 disposals in his first run, took 10 marks giving him 72 points.  This week he had 18 disposals with 5 marks resulting in 78 big ones.  He has a slightly heftier price tag that comes from being a high draft pick.

3)    S Docherty (Def $115k)  Was in mine and many other pre-season teams Docherty made his debut on the weekend, so most of us should sit tight for another week.  He was picked up with pick number 12 and had 20 disposals on the weekend including 2 marks and a handball netting him 86 points, I have him pegged to join my team next week.

4)    M Gawn (Ruck $115k)  It’s so easy to score when you have no opposition.  Regardless, Big Maxy certainly has a presence on the ground, and towered over his team mates during the song at 208cm.  A lot of folks thought he was G.A.W.N when he did his second knee, but he’s looking to prove the doubters wrong.  He’s also only played the one game, but it was a ripper winning himself 97 points.  Hold the trigger finger for one more week if you’re thinking about it.

5)    S Kerriage (Mid/Fwd $115k)  Another of my pre-season recruits who had his first run on the weekend.  Slamming Sammy had one run last season to get a taste of the big dance, but has had to wait till now to get another call up.  He had 14 possessions, 3 marks, 7 tackles and goal is a solid all round performance resulting in 70 sausage rolls.  Sit tight for another week sports fans.

  1. Gees BS, I thought you might be have slotted in GHS after his excellent extraction capabilities against the swans – and kept JPK pretty quite too!

  2. Really can’t bring myself to trade in any demons at the moment. Gawn, however, given the form of jamar, will make a good downgrade next week.

  4. I think this weeks rookies worth consideration as on the bubble are Evans and Mayes. Does viney get the flick. Well according to footywire Evans should increase about 77k, Mayes about 55k and viney about 11k. Estimates of
Course. Is it worth a trade to Evans to realise about 66k if u choose Evans. .Personally I will keep viney so long as he not dropped this week. Still some fattening up left in the kid and not sold on Evans and his longevity/fitness. I know its tempting to flick a under performing rookie for one on the bubble but viney has
Scored 117 before so he could go large again. Save the trade I am going to. Trades are gold! Just saying!

  5. Think I’ll sit this week out

Looking at Doch and Kerr next week ……….. not sure who for. Wouldn’t mind them both not getting selected this week

  6. I’m thinking to take gawn on, given the downward price spiral two of my rucks are already on.

Id rather have a premium and a rookie than two mid pricers averaging the same any day.

  7. Hey guys, can I get a thumbs votes:

Who to trade out for Evans,

Thumbs up: Koby Stevens (227k, avg 57 BE -4)

Thumbs down: Jack Viney (193k, avg 61 BE 36)

I feel they are both slow burners who have so more cash potential on them. However this trade will give me the funds to get Birchall in for Stevenson this week and Stevie J for Dwyer next week.

  8. Is it a good or bad idea to go from JJK to Cloke or is it madness and clokey will return to his 80-85 soon.

  9. I’ve gone with Mayes this week. I can’t justify buying any Melbourne players ATM. Mayes in – Embley out!! This has freed up some coin for a Gray to Monfries trade. I’d love to know thoughts on whether ppl think there is still value in Monfries? Any feedback would be gold!

  10. I am tossing up Mayes for Evans this week. Mayes is a concern for job security, Evans is a third year player but the Melbourne team look like being thrown about a lot this year. What say you wise readers? Mayes:thumbs up, Evans:thumbs down. Thanks
