My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:
1) D Pfeiffer (Mid/Fwd 126k) Michelle’s brother is off to a solid start picking up 20 disposals, one goal and 3 tackles in his first hit out, and has now backed it up with another 15 disposals with 2 tackles. The result was two respectable scores of 64 and 60. It’s also worth mentioning that Pfeiffer is a 24yo mature age rookie who has the added bonus of being a Mid/Fwd dual position player. With two games under his belt, now is the time to strike.
2) J Stringer (Mid 113k) Stringer was picked up by the cats in the 2010 rookie draft, and got off to a slow start in his first match being the Sub and only getting 6 disposals and 2 tackles, but this week with some real game time, you could see Jesse was prepared to get a hard ball and got 15 disposals and layed an unbelievable 10 tackles…. Yes 10 tackles for a second game player. The result being improving scores of 39 and 87 in his first two games. If he can keep up that tackle count, no coach would want to drop him.
3) K Horsely (Mid 128k) Only the one game, but a 24yo rookie who finished runner up in the Sandover Medal. In his first game he got 19 possessions and layed 8 tackles resulting in 87 SC points. Wait till next week if you can.
4) T Adams (Fwd 136k) Another who’s only had the one run and was picked up by GWS at Pick 13 in the 2011 national draft. Adams had a great start with 17 possessions and 3 tackles. The end result was 80 super SC points. Wait another week.
5) B Wilkes (Def 106k) Wilkes is on the list to give you a defensive option. He did play 23 games with WC in 2010 before being delisted and is a 26yo big bodied player. He only had 5 disposals but kicked 3 goals. He scored 52 in his first run at AFL level since 2010, and highly recommend you give him another week to see how it goes and check out his job security.

I am biased being a Cats man… but knowing the cats typicaly don’t run their rookies for long periods I’d go with Michelle… which is what I will likely do, assuming I don’t have and other ‘forced’ trades

Nice write up as always mate.
Did you end up keeping Michelle BS? I remember you having him and were thinking about trading him out at one stage?
I like a few traded him out…..Kicking myself now……and cant ever bring myself to trade back in…..

TSNW, I traded Michelle out the week before he finally got a call-up… but not all bad, as it was an investment and would have made 100k off who I brought in, but would have like another week or two before he got a run.

Think a rookie has a better chance of getting a game at Port
Anyone think Wingard’s injury will give Pfeiffer a better JS?

Also, I’d like to add on the Wilkes front that he did get subbed out….. and saw on footy classifieds last night that they asked Watters as 3qtr time why the surprise sub after kicking 3 goals, and he said “he had a tweak”, then they showed him after the game in post match press conference asked the same question, and said “we’d already submitted the paperwork, then he bombed a goal from outside 50 and they couldn’t reverse it”… and it turns out the Saints could have reversed it as confirmed by Adrian Anderson….. so basically the Saints stuffed up, and Wilkes was pretty good.

I don’t like the look of Wilkes personally. He was recruited as a shutdown backman and could easily be straight down back next week. Even if he does play forward he won’t kick three goals many weeks and take those out of his 52 and it’s a pretty poor score.
I guess the problem is there aint too many DG options with the backs. Hopefully one of Docherty, Spurr, Baguley or Brown can get a run SOON.

Hey Fishy, I have a slightly different view in that i’d prefer him in defense, as highly unlikely he’ll be kicking 3 goals a week… but a big mobile defender could deliver 70-100points a week. That said, I personally probably can’t afford the trade.

Not 100% on it but wasn’t he more out of the Presti mould than a mobile defender?

I watch Wilkes play every week for Sandringham and he has played at full forward every game. From what I’ve seen I was really surprised to see him playing for the saints…he looks threatening every time the ball goes down there but rarely is damaging.

They did also say that the AFL bench steward told them they couldn’t change the paperwork…..but Watters should’ve known the rules.
Btw u also missed Adams’ DPP status….makes him tempting next week if he scores well and the SC gods don’t allow you to get on Pfeiffer this week!

Thinking of downgrading Mummy to Cordy (Bench cover) and upgrading Delany to J. Kennedy in mid while moving Lid into backline. 18 trades left, but with these changes I can hold tight for a few weeks to let the cows fatten up with no problems with bench coverage
Go for it – T/U
Hold tight – T/D
Hot debate. What do you think?

Because he is a dependable rookie Hugh who will almost guarantee 70-80+ every week, great job security and durable. He will end up being my main mid bench rookie going into finals I think. JMc will get the flick the first.

The question on many coach’s minds this week will be what to with Devon Smith. His B/E of 62 and average of 51 suggests a trade is needed (most people will be considering a small downgrade to the promising Pfeiffer). However you feel Smith still has $50,000~ to be made considering he was unlucky to be given the green vest last round resulting in 17 points. If he is lucky enough to play a full game he has the ability to score 80+ given his disposal becomes more effective than what it has been in recent weeks.
R1 (Sydney)- 15 touches and 5 tackles, 54 SC
R2 (North Melbourne)- 21 touches, 53 SC
R3 (West Coast)- 18 touches and 7 marks, 79 SC
R4 (Adelaide)- 13 touches and 5 tackles, 55 SC
R5 (Western Bulldogs)- 11 touches, subbed on in Q3, 17 SC
These stats suggest he has the ability to score well if he becomes more efficient as he gets enough of the pill, tackles well, and plays up forward.
I for one will be holding on to young Devon and saving a precious trade.

I know that he will be a gun, but I have the cash to upgrade a forward and a mid this week and I am going to get Pendles for Caddy, and a forward rookie to Sidebottom. I have Hall, Kennedy (Adam), Treloar and Smith in the forwards…
If you are in my position, you have to trade Devon yeah?

Let’s say D Smith averages 52 from here on out, he’ll max at $254k, only another $30k to go
Pfeiffer should get into the $250-300k range in the next 4-5 weeks
