BS Rookie Review Round 5

Written by Big Sexy on April 30 2013

My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:

1)    M Gawn (Ruck $115k)  He’s GAWN crazy crazy crazy.  I’m not even sure why, but I like the big fella.  He’s a big boy at 208cm, but still quite athletic.  A lot of folks thought he was G.A.W.N when he did his second knee, but he’s away to a flyer this year getting 97 points in his first run and backed it up with another 66 points this week.

2)    S Docherty (Def $115k)  Having copped the vest this week he only finished with 22 points, but I still feel he showed enough in his first hit out where he scored 86 points and had an impressive 20 disposals. Doch was nabbed by Brisy with pick number 12 in the draft but didn’t play a senior game last season due to hip and hamstring injuries.

3)    J Stringer (Fwd $179k) Taken at Pick No 5 in the National Draft the doggies have big expectations on the 191cm power forward.  He looked pretty good against my boyz on Sat night and was most impressed with his composure particularly when having a shot on goal.  He had the Vest in his first run, so hard to judge that one, but with the extra game time this week he had 10 disposals, 5 marks and 3 sausage rolls, bringing home 66 points.  The unfortunate part is with the high draft pick comes the awkward price.

4)    S Kerriage (Mid/Fwd $115k)  Sammy has been given the tagging role which isn’t usually great for SC scores, but I still see potential.  He did score 70 points in round 1 which I was impressed with, but subdued this week whilst tagging Gibbs until he was subbed when he was moved to Juddy.  This week he only scored the 28….. Oh forgot to mention, the other big plus is that Mid/Fwd capability.

5)    R Laird (Def $115k) A small running defender who had a low key first run having just 8  disposals and 44 points.  However, this week his output lifted to 17 disposals, took 3 marks and layed 6 tackles netting my favorite 69 points.  Laird was picked up by Adelaide with their first round pick in the rookie draft.

Here is the rookie data:

  1. Gawn looks good and atm i have traded him in for Blicavs but is it really worth it? With Gibbs and Goodes out leaves me Pittard, Stevenson and Docherty to battle it out for a place on the field. Are they going to get game time this week?

    So many headaches..

  2. Was going to bring in Gawn like most people for Blicavs but I like the forward link with Rowe too much so holding fire on this one

  3. Nice write up.
So my question is, who is going to crack $300k quicker: Gawn or Kerridge?
Clearly Gawn will rise the most this next week, but over time…?

  4. I’ll be keeping an eye on Hannath this week as I won’t be able to grab GAWN b4 his bubble burst #defenderdonuts

  5. I like the look of Horlin-Smith and Black. Think they will both increase in value nicely but very awkwardly priced. Can wait another week on Black but for H-S it’s now or never. He could be a great pick up and a very unique POD mid rookie.

  6. Sorry for the re-post, put this in the wrong section before

    – Gawn is a lock
    – Can only get one of Docherty or Laird for either Pittard or Heath
    – Comments if I should just get Gawn and hold the PA rookies

    TU Docherty
    TD Laird

  7. Take the Gawn but I reckon hold off on the second trade especialy with Heath let his price continue to rise. Docherty will take a bit to rise especially if getting the vest. Heath seems to have some decent JS. Pittard may or may not play this week coming but still has a lot of earning potential.

  8. Where is the mention of Sinclair? Sure he’s already taken some nice price rises (awesome!) but his FWD / Ruck flexibility should give you added options also.

I guess the only mark would be with Nic Nat coming back where he’ll fit…

  9. Would love to have the luxury of bringing in a rookie on the bubble but Gibbs, goodes and fyfe need fixing first! My heart goes out to the people with those guys plus rioli and walker. Carnage started

  10. With Kepler Bradley down now, maybe thinking Hannaths JS may be better? Saying that, thinking wait a week and go blicavs>Hannath next week (hopefully Bilcavs gets to 200k, meaning more money in war chest after trade), and this week. pittard(if not selected) to docherty maybe, and another port rookie or goodes>Heath shaw who’s about to go up. Thoughts?

  11. Im thinking Dangermouse to Hartlett which allows Goodes to go onto the bench in the mids, and Fyfe to Jobe . Problem is I then need Jack Frost, who may be lucky due to Toovey going down, or Pittard, who I think is doubtful or 50/50 at best, being named this week, so I can put Gibbs on the Def bench.
No other trades will be considered elsewhere due to the Def dramas.

  12. I am tempted by Gawn, but not sure how long he will hold his spot for. I was still thinking of trading in Evans (Demons) even though I have missed but boat with one price rise already, but i think he may be a better long term proposition
