BS Rookie Review Round 8

Written by Big Sexy on May 17 2011

Let me start by saying I am wrapped with my left-field trade of Matthew Wright of Adel when I had to choose between Wright, Iles and Wallis. I really wanted Wallis, and given Wallis was dropped this week and Wright racked up a massive 116 SC points this week, and assuming he gets another game this week means he will have served his purpose and made me a 150k in quick time, and any subsequent games are a bonus for anyone who has him.
My Top Five Rookie’s (<$200k) of the week:
1) I Smith (Mid/Fwd 103k) I’m keeping Smith at number 1 this week…. I have to, seeing I broke my own rule of not waiting till his second game to trade him in. To recap some of his benefits:
a. He’s a Mid/Fwd DPP which we all need, even if he’s only on your bench for flexibility, even better if you find them worthy to start on the field.
b. He scored 102 SC Points on debut, exceptional! And another 57 SC Points in his second game.
c. He moves well, uses the ball well and will score the odd goal.
d. He’s 20yo, so has an extra couple of years on the kids and was the Hawks highest draft choice taken at pick 19.
e. In his second game he had 7 kicks, 7 handballs, took 5 grabs, kicked 0.1 and layed 2 tackles…. Reasonable effort.
f. Only concern: Hawks have a habit of dropping Rookies and with Cyril set to return he may be at risk, but Puopolo and Breust are also in the early stages.
2) T Lynch (Fwd 138k) Lynchy is a huge unit who plays up forward and he’s now put in two big games. He’s 199cm and 91kg’s, and whilst young tall forward a recipe for disaster when it comes to SC, Lynchy is fairly mobile for a big man. He did way better than expected in his first game scoring a massive 95 SC points and backed it up again with another 82 SC Points. Lynch had 19 disposals, took 10 marks (amazing… and 9 marks in his first game) and kicked 2 goals… so fairly impressed…. So he’s on my hit-list, but NOTE, THE SUNS HAVE A BYE THIS WEEK.
3) M Hibberd (Mid/Def 103k) I mentioned it in my previous write-up on Hibberd, but he was in my team until the eve of round 1 when he wasn’t named, he’s was a late inclusion for Hurley who pulled out. I’m a little concerned he hasn’t had more opportunity since two permanent spots opened for the Bombers with Dempsey and Winderlich’s ACL’s. I’m still not 100% sure about his job security, but thinking Hocking will get 3 weeks for off the ball elbow to the head… so may free up a spot when Hurley returns. Again, I highly recommend waiting teams are named. Hibberd scored a very solid first-up 68 and another 57 this week….. and even more importantly (in my mind) he a DPP that you can swap with BJ, Heppell, Lids and Gibbs.
4) A Siposs (Fwd 103k) It’s always a concern getting any player from a team in disarray like the Saints, let-alone a rookie. Well Siposs has showed a bit in his two games so far. Siposs was taken pick 75 in the 2010 national draft and he kicked 99 goals with Beconsfield. Siposs had 11 disposals against the Hawks, took 4 marks, kicked 2 goals and layed 1 tackle…. Pretty solid. He finished with a very respectful 79 SC points.
5) P Puopolo (Def 103k) Puopolo (say it how you like), looks like a footballer, but after his first game, I wasn’t convinced he would get another run…. Actually a little surprised to see him get a second call-up. His second chance was a little more robust, and has plenty of room for improvement. Job Security is the big concern I have. WAIT TILL FRIDAY if you are considering Puopolo. Puopolo was taken late in 2010 draft at 66, and is a mature age rookie at 23. Hi stats from the weekend were 8 kicks, 6 handballs, 4 marks and a staggering 9 tackles (also what may keep him in the team). He ended up with 70 SC Points this week.

  1. Most important in all of this is to leave a trade option for Tendai. Word out of Freo is that he may be right to play this week (WAFL?) but with the team in poor form and Tendai in there best 22 (he would’ve clearly played Rnd 1 if fit) he shouldn’t be more than 2-3 weeks away at most.

  2. I’m happy with Simon Buckley finally getting a game AND playing well. Had to take a lot of zeroes to gets thus far.

  3. I think there is a case in trading out say a Mateeerra for T.Lynch after the GC bye, making a quick $150k profit, and then trading him out for Mzungu.

  4. What do we think of Ben Jacobs first up perfomance…
Its him or Hibberd for mine as I need the DPP but not sure which way to go.
Hibberd seems to get a lot of the ball for very low returns scoring wise( also did the same in the semi of the nab cup with 20 odd disposals and a score of 55)
Anyone catch Jacobs game on the weekend??? Would his JS be better long term with greater potential for big scores?????

  5. Advice on a mid downgrade target? Already have Smith & Hibberd.

    S Phillips? Thumbs Up.
    B Jacobs? Thumbs Down.

Who has the better JS & scoring consistency likelihood?

  6. Minor issue but i can’t wait til Pederson plays his 3rd game.
Not to see his price rise, not to see what he has to offer his team, none of these. The reason why is because i’m sick of his name being at the top of the list when i sort & filter the breakevens in Excel. Like i said, a minor point, but still one that is frustrating in my day-to-day SuperCoach experience.

  7. Any news on Winmar? He’s been an emergency for 2 weeks now, surely with saints season over he will get a rub? He’s sitting bored on my bench, needs to make some cash

  8. Thanks knickers, it’s a tough choice trying to be unique in my league I don’t have chappy or pav and ranked about 2000 now. So I do want pav but I’ll wait. For me now it’s all about forward/ mids.

  10. This weeks plan is to trade Atley(BE 56 ave 48) and L Thompson(BE 70 ave 77) and pick up Old Mother and Poo Poo. this will free up around 400k and then will upgrade midfield and backline to Premiums next week. (Priddis and Shaw)

    T/Up or T/Down?

  11. I think I’m going to be trading chris day and nights into eye sack smith on friday which then gives me the $220,000 odd that I need to strengthen up my midfield by swapping cashcow curnow into david “happy with your scores on” mundy.

I’m undefeated in one league, but only just sitting in the bottom half of the eight in the other four leagues, after dominating SC in all leagues for the last two years (5 out of 6 league premierships and lost GF in the the other). Its actually a very stressful and frustrating feeling losing close games to people, say, who are last on the ladder for example. Still not over it.

Anyway, I think they’re a pretty good couple of trades at this stage of the season. 18 trades left and only 19k in the bank. What do you reckon? Green or Red?

  12. Not sure where to put this but what is everyone doing with Petrie? He is starting to lose money and has a high break-even, plus he is very inconsistent. Are you keeping him? Or upgrading/downgrading him?

  13. Who do i trade out for Smith?
    Thumbs up – Swallow
    Thumbs down – Matera

Comment if i should swap either pitt, richardson or even harris for him
Already have $247,000 in the bank which will be used on shaw this week..

  14. i think if there’s a best time to pick up rookies for your team….it would be now.

There wont be much potential rookie cashcows left once the likes of Puopolo, Hibberd, Jacobs, Lynch, i.Smith & Breust, reach 3 games. i can probably see Mzunga & Callinan as the only other rookies i would considering milking (plus they hav the DPP bonus).

By the way, is Harvey really serious bout playin Mzunga this week?
Mzunga must be part wolverine cuz his healing power is amazing.
Hearing he’s back is like seeing a girl flash her boobs….your surprised yet aroused at the same (hmm maybe its just me).

While im here i just wanna know if its ok to cry if you get a low score, lose your league games & drop down in your overall rankings.
I was so close to being in the top ten (13#) i would have this fantasy where i would open the herald sun to the top ten supercoach overall rankings & see my name. i would show my missus the page & then i would proceed to scream such phrases as “SEE WOMAN!!!….all that stayin at home on the weekend so i can watch all the games, check my scores & leave you bored to tears paid off!!!!” or “You didn’t believe in me!!!…. sooooo when i win the fiddy grand, guess who’s not gettin any”

Anyhoo…. for all you coaches goin for the overall win, just remember that the last supercoach winner was ranked 82# at this stage last year (some food 4 thought)
Good LUCK this round 9 my fellow supercoach disciples….
May your rookie trades be fruitful 🙂

  16. Motts, Duck or BS,
Could you set up some upgrade options polls and downgrade option polls. Like 1 for each position, it would make a lot of peoples trading decisions easier.

    cheers 🙂
