  1. Hately’s JS is poor. I don’t know why so many people are jumping on him.

He wasn’t the immediate replacement for Ward and only played his second game because Kelly was a late out. Deledio is pushing for selection, so that doesn’t help his case either.

    1. I agree GD. Tho’ hearing murmurs both Kelly and Whitfield may be given another week off.
If he’s named and you pick him, just make sure you’re gonna be happy with the worst-case scenario and he doesn’t play again.
If you don’t need him onfield to bolster your weekly points, you might well be better off without him.

      GWS and injuries/selections? Who knows! I know I don’t believe a word.

      1. I believe he’ll be a slow burn as I think he will get games on/off throughout the season. Only buy if it suits your strategy/structure.

    2. I’m saying this, I missed the boat on Stack being cautious over the same advice.

      If he’s named, take him.

    3. GWS play a lot of late games- lots of Sunday games, a few late Saturday ones… So Hately when not playing and earning well is a good captain or rookie loophole.

I’m running Reily O’Brien rather than a perm loophole so fits my strategy.

If he’s picked, I’ll be taking the scores…

  2. GWS’s injury report says that Whitfield and Kelly are likely to play this week. There could potentially be no good bubble boys playing this week since GWS and Lions both get key players back

  3. Hey Hutta
I know it’s way out there BUT

What do we think of Ryan NYHUIS (DEF, FRE, $284.3K, ave.88.5, BE -10)
I know he’s been more of a lockdown defender, but his heat map suggests he’s been playing up the ground a bit this year? He’s on the bubble. Will Connor Blakely’s return see him dropped? His scoring to date also looks anomalous compared to his SC history, but thought I’d raise it anyway. He’s in that price bracket where we tend to get 6 players/year who can make $150k very quickly. And if Whitfield is out another week, those points onfield could be very useful. He’d only need to play 4 more games at a similar output to make more than $150K. Is that way too big an ask?!?

    Yep, thought so.

      1. 52 and 54 last 2 years, but samples v small. Previous HS was 88 last year.
To be honest I read he’d be the first to go when Blakely’s back and he dominated in the WAFL last week.

Just worried that the decent rookies become very scarce from this point on (they did last year – only 3 made $120k+ from this point), so if there are more expensive cash-generating options, eg maybe Taylor GARNER next week, then we should be considering them all.

    1. Not for me allsaints.

      Don’t trust FURL.

I see the dreaded” role player” showing up. Just like Tucker early. He is being given a shot and will shine for a few weeks. Blakey will affect him, and he will almost certainly not keep up this out put.

Don’t get sucked into Midprices at this stage of the season.

Target the best downgrades and the most affordable Fallen Premo’s
( that strengthen the weakest points in your side.Byes in mind 🙂 )

I’m pretty sold on Corbett and Answerth this week.

Answerth’s reasonable JS, DPP and low price make him close to a no brainer.

As I own Burgess, Corbett Forward seems a pretty easy sell too. He may be a slow burn but he only needs a 80 in the next few weeks and he will make $$.

Both have late Byes and at least one of them should play!

      1. I hear ya FT. And thanks for the feedback. I kinda knew the answer already. Just wanted affirmation!

Am thinking of double downgrading this week because the rookie pipeline looks weak. That should give me enough for four upgrades into the byes. May make only 3 and do another down so I have enough cash to double-up into Rd13, with Rd12-bye players. Of course nothing ever goes to exact plans but …

Am currently very happy with Rd12, happy with 14 and not too concerned on 13, but things can change quickly as we all know only too well!!

Thanks again. Are we gonna see Blakely this week. Sounds like he turned it on in the WAFL last week 🙂

        1. Think a double downgrade will be popular this week, allsaints.

Gibbons and Petruccelle for Answerth and Gibbons for me, most likely. I’ve been a vehement critic of Answerth’s JS, but he might hold apparently.

          FT bang-on as usual btw.

        1. If I double downgrade, yes and that will mean holding him for a few weeks more at least. If I go one up/down then no, as it will afford me to do the same thing next week.
It will depend on a number of things, but mainly rookie selections in the actual teamdrops this week.

      2. Hey Freo and Allsaints – I would be concerned on Answerth’s JS with Andrews due back any time soon … not sure who else would make way??

  4. Just read that Kelly will be available to play this week. Whitfield will have a test tomorrow, but has had a couple of runs already and seems likely.
I really like Hately, but he’s going to have to work really hard to get more games, and even then it probably won’t be enough. That Giants midfield is deeeep.
Team sheets will be interesting this week.

  5. Also need to add Joyce from StKilda to the list
    Defender Avg 63.5 BE -54
Worth considering but unsure as to JS -maybe Saints fans can comment.

    1. I was one of many Sainters surprised to see Nathan Brown dropped last week. It sounds like he’ll be back this week, which will be at Joyce’s expense I’m afraid.
Haven’t heard if it was to manage Brown’s load, but he did play VFL last week so maybe not. Strange one as Brown has been in great form this year.
It’s a nice problem for STK to have as Joyce is rated and will be given a key role if Brown, Battle or Wilkie get injured.
We might also see Hind this week as Jimmy Webster broke his hand last week.

      1. UPDATE: not particularly SC-relevant this year, but Jimmy Webster’s x-rays/scans showed no serious damage and he is available for selection this week.

  6. Do you think it is best to double downgrade this week and double upgrade next week if it means leaving lots of cash in the bank this week (500k if I double downgrade)? I could afford to bring in Answerth and Tim Kelly this week but am thinking of Answerth and Corbett or Hately purely for future cash generation and bringing Kelly in next week.
What does everyone think of this strategy?

    1. I think its a sound strategy, I’ll be doing it myself. I dont have ROB so cash generation is important which means getting the right rookies and cashing it at the right times.

Hopefully the rookies score well this week before the upgrades start next week.

      1. Cheers guys, I think I will go this way and means I can upgrade to at least 3 premos in the 2 weeks after and leave me with 21 trades for about 5/6 to upgrade.
