Adelaide
Brodie Smith (collarbone) 1-2 weeks

Almost a clean sheet for the Crows, who got on the board with a tough win over Brisbane and now face the fired-up Power.

Brisbane
Simon Black (knee) 2 weeks
Jesse O’Brien (adductor) 5-6 weeks
Brent Staker (knee) 3-4 weeks
Stephen Wrigley (knee) season

At 0-2, the pre-season premiers face a must-win game against local rivals Gold Coast.

Carlton
Eddie Betts (broken jaw) 3 weeks
Shaun Hampson (appendix) 1 week
Patrick McCarthy (heel) test
Andrew Collins (ankle) 1 week
David Ellard (hamstring) 1 week
Andrew McInnes (knee) 10 weeks
Jarrad Waite (calf) 1-2 weeks
Rhys O’Keefe (foot) 2 weeks
Nick Graham (knee) 7 weeks

The Blues are 0-2, with a long injury list and games against Geelong and West Coast in the next fortnight. Waite, Betts and Hampson are the only first-choice players missing but depth is being tested.

Collingwood
Dayne Beams (quad) 1 week
Clinton Young (hamstring) TBC
Darren Jolly (ribs) TBC
Luke Ball (knee) 1-2 weeks
Brodie Grundy (back) 3-5 weeks
Michael Hartley (shoulder) 5 weeks
Lachlan Keefe (knee) 5-7 weeks
Tim Broomhead (glandular fever) 8 weeks

The Pies have depth in spades. If Jolly’s ribs force him out, veteran rookie Ben Hudson is likely to make his black-and-white debut at his fourth club. Other clubs can only look on in fear at the thought the Magpies will soon add Beams, Ball and Young to the side.

Essendon
Stewart Crameri (knee) TBC

Crameri will hopefully come up for the big clash with the Dockers. Plenty pushing up from the reserves, with Leroy Jetta having 34 touches, Jason Winderlich kicking 8 and Joe Daniher 5.

Fremantle
Anthony Morabito (knee) indefinite
Aaron Sandilands (hamstring) 8 weeks
Zac Clarke (Achilles) test
Jesse Crichton (quad) 1-2 weeks
Clancee Pearce (corkie) test

Pearce should be right to play.

Geelong
Jared Rivers (knee) test
Jordan Murdoch (hand) test
Josh Cowan (Achilles) indefinite
Hamish McIntosh (knee) indefinite
Josh Hunt (glandular fever) indefinite
Daniel Menzel (knee) test
Dawson Simpson (back) indefinite
Jed Bews (foot) indefinite
George Burbury (foot) indefinite
Steve Johnson (knee) 1-2 weeks

Rivers could replace Mitch Brown but that’s likely to be the only change. They like Murdoch, but hard to fit him in at the moment.

Gold Coast
Greg Broughton (calf) TBC
Jesse Lonergan (wrist) 3 weeks
Nathan Bock (leg) indefinite
Liam Patrick (hamstring) 1 week
Jacob Gilbee (suspension) 2 weeks
Seb Tape (knee) 2 weeks
Campbell Brown (suspension) 4 weeks

Broughton sat out Round 2 and would add valuable experience if available.

Greater Western Sydney
Matthew Buntine (lung) 4 weeks
Chad Cornes (shoulder) Indefinite
Dom Tyson (knee) 6weeks
Taylor Adams (hip) TBC

No.2 draft pick Jono O’Rourke returned from a hamstring injury in the NEAFL but it’s too soon for an AFL debut.

Hawthorn
Matthew Suckling (knee) indefinite
Brendan Whitecross (knee) 6 weeks
Alex Woodward (knee) indefinite
Xavier Ellis (calf) 2 weeks

Brad Sewell got the red vest, suffering hamstring tightness. He has a full week to get up this time, but also a five-hour flight to recover from. Brian Lake got through the VFL and is in line for his first game for the club. Jack Gunston will be back.

Melbourne
Jordie McKenzie (calf) TBC
Jack Fitzpatrick (concussion) test
Lynden Dunn (hamstring tightness) 1 week
Nathan Stark (knee) 1 week
Joel Macdonald (hamstring) 2 weeks
Chris Dawes (hamstring) 3 weeks

A few players at Casey put their hands up: Luke Tapscott kicked 6 goals, Dean Kent impressed, Rohan Bail could come in and Max Gawn had 20 hitouts and kicked 2 goals.

North Melbourne
No injuries.

Brad McKenzie and Majak Daw pressed their cases for selection in the VFL.

Port Adelaide
Brett Ebert (adductor) test
Hamish Hartlett (back) available
Jay Schulz (ankle) available

John Butcher kicked 5 goals in the SANFL and Andrew Moore had 8 clearances amongst 22 possessions. Kane Mitchell has been the sub twice and could be vulnerable.

Richmond
David Astbury (foot) 1-2 weeks
Nathan Foley (Achilles) 4-6 weeks

Ex-Crow Chris Knights had 41 disposals in the VFL and could make his Richmond debut. Brad Helbig and Robin Nahas will push for selection, with Brandon Ellis and Jake Batchelor the most vulnerable.

St Kilda
Daniel Markworth (knee) season
Sean Dempster (hand) 3 weeks
James Gwilt (knee) 3-5 weeks
Farren Ray (hip) 1-2 weeks
Tom Hickey (foot) 1 week
Jackson Ferguson (knee) 4 weeks

Dempster is a big loss. Top draftee Nathan Wright played well at half-back in the VFL and could debut.

Sydney
Alex Johnson (knee) indefinite
Gary Rohan (leg) indefinite

The Swans have just the two long-term injuries and are building fitness through match-play.

West Coast
Daniel Kerr (knee) test
Eric Mackenzie (hamstring) test
Patrick McGinnity (back) test
Mark LeCras (arm) test
Nic Naitanui (groin) 2 weeks
Matt Rosa (quad) 3 weeks
Sharrod Wellingham (ankle) 4 weeks
Mark Nicoski (hamstring) 6-8 weeks

The Eagles’ injury list is the most concerning of all clubs, with a third of their best side on the sidelines. Kerr played in the WAFL and could return.

Western Bulldogs
Easton Wood (hamstring) available
Dylan Addison (hamstring) test
Tom Williams (foot) test
Matthew Boyd (calf) 1 week
Nathan Hrovat (calf) 1-2 weeks

The Dogs will hope Wood is fit enough to bolster the defence.

  1. LeCras a test for the broken arm that was operated on and had a plate inserted. Bloody hell, if he played it’d be a miracle.

    Hallelujah brother!!

  2. AFL injury list shows N.Salter back in 1 or 2 weeks. If I am right this means K.Mitchell could be back on the rookie list in no time. I will probably go Mitchell to Crouch next week.
