Captain Selection Critical

Written by Duck on April 24 2013

It’s proving to be more and more a factor with every round that passes and with some guys not doing what they usually do. I guess it’s makign things more interesting that the same old week in week out.

With the Anzac Day clash I’m sure there’s going to be lots of coaches putting their faith in Dane, Jobe, Travis and Pendes …. but who will you go for, and will you name a VC and decide later?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Will give VC to swan. And with currie sitting on bench makes him my loophole captain. If swan stinks it ( highly unlikely) will give the C to either joelwood or GAJ.

  2. D. Swan:

    Last 13 vs Essendon – 123 Average
    Last 5 vs Essendon – 156 Average
    Last 3 vs Essendon – 176, 180, 175

    S. Pendlebury:

    Last 12 vs Essendon – 122 Average
    Last 6 vs Essendon – 134 Average
    Last 5 ANZAC Day Games – 167, 170, 130, 130, 140

Don’t see how you can go wrong with either. Personally, I think I’ll go with Swanny.

Ablett vs GWS likely the backup if needed, but I’m really not expecting that.

  3. Kommer can get the big C for two weeks running while Pendles shows his stuff in Vice place. Otherwise will look to our saviour in Ablett.

  4. Personally don’t really believe in the Captaincy loophole, but this week might give it a crack. Who would you go with out of:
    VC Pendles – Thumbs up
    VC Jobe – Thumbs down

  5. Swan will get the VC & most likely be the lad who gets his score doubled… With him and Caroline Wilson going public with their relationship, i see him playin with new freedom and dominating the Bombers again..

  7. Another loop hole position. News filtering through that brad crouch has twanged his hammy at training and will miss 2-3!!!

  8. VC- JPK
    C- Cox

The rucks who play against Port have done superb with Z.Smith being the lowest scorer with 80-odd. Cox in great form and should be a good loop-hole captain

  9. Whilst I fell for the Currie hype during the nab cup, there’s been a silver lining. He’s been the perfect man to exploit the vice-captain loophole seeing as North so often play late on Sundays! The Supercoach Gods often take with one hand and give with the other.

  10. Good day to you all … Lest We Remember:

Unfortunately I don’t have any non-players ATM (originally I had planned for Sinclair to be such a player, but his new calling put a spanner in those works). As such, I will be seriously considering downgrading a rookie to a non-playing rookie for the remainder of the season to use as a permanent VC option.

Question is … I would REALLY love to be able to start this THIS WEEK, as I don’t want to risk putting the C on Ablett, to then see Swannie pump out another 170. However, I’m not sure I can justify trading down one of my decent rookies yet, who are all still going to make more money (even players like Brown or Viney … give them a bit longer to get their crappy scores out of their systems, and they’ll be usable later in the season, which is definitely needed, as you can only trade out 2 rookies each week, so you don’t want them peaking all at the same time).

    SO, my question is …

Thumbs UP: Hold fire on any downgrading to non-playing rookies, and go without the VC loophole for another week
Thumbs DOWN: Trade Brown or Viney down to a non-playing rookie THIS WEEK, and reap the rewards of VC Swannie.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    Cheers.

  11. Good Morning SCT coaches,

I’d be interested in who thinks what player would be best today, exploiting the captain’s loophole……..I’ve never been a big fan of it, but losing a few head to heads the last few weeks………….. I’ve thought I’d be mad not to try it

    Pendles v Ess
    OR
    JPK v Saints

    Cheers

  12. I can see Marty Clarke going to Stanton again, as the Dons will try to use Stanton h2h with Swan. Swan a safe bet as VC.

  14. not exactly the right thread for this ask for help, but hopefully some are reading …
my team has trouble this week … I’ve been stuck with vlastuin and currie not playing. Now I have Viney, crouch and hurley injured!!! aaarrrggghhh

Sooo is it worth sacrificing say Viney to evans to make some smaller cash gains and at least have 22 players scoring this week … currie gives me captain loophole which I may not be able to use anyway as am usually busy on weekends …

Any advice on trading out viney greatly appreciated … stuck with vlastuin i think.

  15. Fantastic advice here fellas, great read, may well get me a divorce soon though.
Anyway, enough of that sordid crap!
Am in a very close game (predicted to lose by 16 points) and Steveson’s withdrawal means I can use the captain loophole.
My opponent had Watson as Capt. and got 252.
My VC was Pendle, so he is potentially worth 272.
    My Captain is Ablett.
Thumbs up: use the loophole and keep Pendle’s 272
Thumbs down: stick with Ablett and hope he mauls GWS for more than 136.
    Any advice would be fantastic!
