11 players scored 140+ in round 9 led by Lachie Whitfield in his return game from injury. There were the usual suspects that fired with the likes of Shannon Hurn, Mitch Duncan and David Mundy in rare form, which hopefully continues this week.
North Melbourne v Richmond
(Friday – 7:50pm @ Marvel)
The Tigers have some fire power coming back in skipper Trent Cotchin which only makes their mids even out even further. That shouldn’t impact the inform veteran defender Bachar Houli’s scoring power and should comfortably be the top SC scorer over the Kangas Todd Goldstein and Ben Cunnington in coach Rhys Shaw’s first game in charge.
Best choice: Bachar Houli
Collingwood v Fremantle
(Saturday 1:45pm @ MCG)
An enticing SC game at the G with the Dockers, led by superstar Nat Fyfe and the evergreen David Mundy but it the Brownlow medal fancy Brodie Grundy who is most likely to dominate the game. The Pies have several good mids who could score well, but you would be a brave coach not to put the VC on Grundy this week.
Best choice: Brodie Grundy
GWS v Gold Coast
(Saturday 1:45pm @ GIA)
I really fear for the Suns this week as they face the red-hot Giants who are primed for a huge win in this match. Jeremy Cameron is every chance of kicking a big bad and scoring huge, but it is more likely to be one of their Rolls Royce’s in Josh Kelly or Lachie Whitfield. I’m tipping the smooth moving – high scoring superstar in Kelly to put up a monster score this round and will be hard to pass on.
Best choice: Josh Kelly
Geelong v Sydney
(Saturday 4:35pm @ GMHBA)
The Swans have shown some fight and spirit in the last 3 weeks but face the competitions best at the moment in the Cats at their own fortress. Jake Lloyd is always a chance of a 120+ with his game, but it will likely be on of three superstar Cats in Patrick Dangerfield, Mitch Duncan or Tim Kelly who will take the honours. Really hard to split the three to be honest.
Best choice: Mitch Duncan
Brisbane v Hawthorn
(Saturday 7:25pm @ Gabba)
The Lions have the wood over the Hawks at the minute and will look to add to their consecutive wins last season with a hard-fought win. The Hawks evenness prevents a player to rival the output of Lions weapon Lachie Neale, who is averaging 140 in Gabba wins, and he should continue that form.
Best choice: Lachie Neale
Melbourne v Adelaide
(Saturday 7:10pm @ TIO)
The Dees couldn’t get any lower and the Crows are coming off two tough beats that could see the Crows could go for the throat in this one. Skipper Rory Sloane should lead the way for the Crows while Clayton Oliver could go large, but still isn’t likely to top teammate Max Gawn. The beast is back in dominating form and is likely to continue that this weekend.
Best choice: Max Gawn
St. Kilda v Port Adelaide
(Sunday 2:20pm AEST @ AAJS – China)
I really can’t see anyone scoring large enough to gain consideration this week especially with the enigmatic Tom Rockliff missing. Travis Boak will lead the way but I’m not willing to place the badge on him this week.
Best choice: Travis Boak
Essendon v Carlton
(Sunday 3:20pm @ MCG)
Somehow this is a very, very interesting game. Both coaches are to feel the wrath of the spotlight on Monday should their team lose, in what is shaping into a flip of a coin battle. The Dons will be led by star Zach Merrett who should score 120+ this week, which won’t be enough to pass Blues beast Patrick Cripps. While Zerrett will need a win and not be tagged to score well, no matter if it’s a win, lose or draw for the Blues, there is nobody at the G who could stop Cripps, making him an excellent Captaincy selection this week.
Best choice: Patrick Cripps
West Coast v Western Bulldogs
(Sunday 3:20pm @ Optus)
Plenty of players capable of a large score in this one including Marcus Bontempelli, Jack Macrae, Andrew Gaff, Elliot Yeo and Shannon Hurn. I’m backing the Eagles for a big win and their skipper topping the scores.
Best choice: Shannon Hurn

Kelly into Cripps for me
Kelly into Gawn for me.
Considering Cameron into Gawn rather than Gawn into Cripps…
Gawn is locked in as C, however who takes the big VC?
T/U Grundy (God)
T/D Kelly (will destroy the suns)
Check the weather first. Could be VERY wet for the GWS game!
Grundy into Grundy for me! 😉
Grundy -> Gawn or Gawn -> Grundy locked in for the rest of the year.
Vc Grundy
C Neal
