One of the benefits you the punters have of me being a rabid Blues fan is that I pass on the inner secrets of the club that elite SC coaches need to know. Here’s the wash up from today’s intraclub match:
Remember this name: Nick Duigan. He will be a dirt cheap defender, is a 26yo mature age player and averaged 15 or so possessions last year in the SANFL. From the CFC website: Ratts said Duigan, a 26 year-old recruit from Adelaide was doing everything right during his first pre-season at Carlton and said his disposal was excellent. “At 26 he knows this is an opportunity to change his life and he is certainly doing everything possible in his bid to be an AFL player,”. He’s just grabbed a guernsey on the Maulers’ backline bench.
Brock McLean – another bloke Ratts singled out as having had a good game today. He’s been on a reduced pre-season load to ensure his body is right for the real stuff. His in-and-under work today was at the level that was expected of him when he was brought in last year. He’ll be cheap but last year’s injuries will no doubt put a big ? over his head. Could be a big payoff if you’re brave.
Jarrad Waite – spent all his time up forward meaning you’ll pick up the scores if that’s where he stays. Was also singled out by Ratts post match today as having played well. Having had him for most of last year I can tell you that your biggest worry with him is not his knee, its if he can keep clear of the tribunal.
Andrew Walker – played the whole day up front, took a blinder and kicked 3 goals. It looks like this is where they’ll be playing Walks this year after he spent most of the final against Sydney in the same position.
Chris Yarran, Ryan Houlihan and Mitch Robinson – Brock Mclean (@chooka_86) tweeted this afternoon “Walker, Houlihan, Yarran were very impressive!!” and “Yarran and Robinson will have big years I think”. My thoughts are that Houla may be a little past his best and can be a little hot-and-cold. Mitch Robinson has always impressed me with his enthusiasm and determination and in his third year, Chris Yarran is due for a break out season.
So there you have it. Anyone else go to the game?
