Rusty not only submitted his team but also gave me some insight into why certain options were made and some of the risks he thought he was taking by making those choices. Here’s what he said:

“Risks: I have taken quite a few deliberate risks during selection,

David Hille said yesterday: “I’d like to think I’m pretty much as good as I’m going to get. I have a great deal of confidence in my rehabilitation process.”

What do you think? Are you prepared to risk him after a knee reconstruction or are you going to give him some time to settle in?

Weekend Review – Dogs v Power

Written by Motts on 10:13 am, March 9 2010

Western Bulldogs
D Cross – 24 disposals and 12 tackles for 131 pts. There were two pics of Power players in the ‘Tiser on Saturday morning and both were being tackled by him.
B Hall – Has he done enough to make your forward line yet? Kicked 4.3 and scored 108 pts.
R Griffen – Had a 95 meaning he’s strung a few good games together. Worth a punt in your midfield but I won’t be chancing him.
S Higgins – Subbed on in Q3 and still cracked a lazy 62. Great F/M DPP option.

A good mate of mine and staunch Hawks supporter, Dobbo, emailed me the other day asking very nicely for me to rate his team. He put me up when I was over his side of the world a couple of years ago so what could I say?

$2,300 in the bank

I like it, tap. I like it a lot. Very similar to my own team in fact. Lot of captaincy options, good number of DPP’s, all the right rookies (Gumbelton aside) and a few cash cows. I give it an 8.5.

Weekend Review – Roos v Dockers

Written by Motts on 7:00 am, March 4 2010

North Melbourne
B Harvey – First game for ’09. At $500k is good value as a DPP (fwd/mid) especially if he keeps putting up 109’s.
E Lower – Got 9 games last year and is only valued at $272k. Is a good fit for the North midfield but you’re taking your chances. Got 105 in this game.
D Petrie – Put him in your ruck and Tippett in your forward line then switch them all year to your heart’s content. 82.
J Ziebell – Didn’t get a lot of time on the green stuff but still managed a 74.

Weekend Review – Swans v Saints

Written by Motts on 7:00 am, March 3 2010

M Mattner – Proved his viability for your backline by smashing his way to 112.
N Malceski – 93 last week, 82 this week, priced at $273,500. If you going to do a knee again, Nick, please do it prior to Round 1.
M Seaby – Running out of money and looking for a sub-$300k option for your second ruck position? Look no further. 83.
R O’Keefe – Locked down by Gilbert so had an inauspicious 46 to kick off his year. Now Sydney’s been bundled into the Challenge its going to be hard to keep track of him.

Weekend Review – Eagles v Power

West Coast

B Ebert – Had a 112 here but only a 44 in the game against Essendon. Too inconsistent for my liking.

L Shuey – Well helloooooooo Mr Shuey. Scored 35 in 2 quarters against the Dons before jacking that up to 108 against the Power. 24 disposals, of which admittedly 12 were handballs, but also kicked a supergoal.

C Masten – 28 disposals and 70 points. I really like this guy as a mid priced option for your midfield – think he’s only going to get better this year.

Weekend Review – Hawks v Dogs

Written by Motts on 7:16 am, March 1 2010

S Mitchell – With a 111 he’s staked his claim as an elite middy you can’t ignore. Certainly put himself in front of Sewell who only had a 68.
J Kayler-Thompson – Rookies who score 95 will always get my attention. Shame we won’t get to see him again next week after the Hawks got thumped.
R Schoenmakers – this cheap defensive option managed a 66.
C Peterson – caught my eye with some flashy play in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Came off in the 4th but not before scoring 62.
