Written by Motts on March 27 2012

How many of these guys are currently occupying a spot in your backline?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Got Clarke at the moment but if Guthrie gets named I’ll be tempted to switch, think Bower will be in and out all season

  2. I think Clarke will be good but I will try to find a cheaper option. Morris, Spur (if elevated) maybe even shaw with rutten injured.

Does anybody else like the look of shaw?

  3. 74 people voted neither, I find that staggering. So much value in the backline this year that I would have thought you have to have at least one of these guys.

PS: So sick of looking at my team, I wish the footy could start in earnest today.

  4. Alot of talk over the last few days about bower stepping in.
Ratten has mentioned him a few times in recent interviews but its always “guys like bower need to come in and perform”.

Personally I feel bower will play games but will be in and out, mostly out once injuries return.

Im hoping clarke can hold down his spot.

Are there players at the pies that will take clarkes spot if he doesnt stand up?

  5. I posed this on twitter, so thanks heaps to sctalk starting a poll. Seems clarke is the popular choice. Just have a feeling that guthrie might be the one to pay off if only could work out whether or not he’ll get a sustained run at it. In the end I think it might just come down to selection in fridays paper! Bower will get games for at least 3 weeks unless he really stinks it up, so might be a good bet for some quick cash… Still confused…. My brain hurts.

  6. I’m going with neither. Had to cut Clarke to afford the Watson > Pendlebury change unfortunately. Went to all costs to get Pendles, Ablett, Murphy, Selwood in the mids. I’m confident it should pay off.

  7. its good having 2 super coach teams going with different strategies and players because you have more to look out for during games, heaps more fun, in saying that anyone who does not have at least one of those guys has no idea.

Clarke: averaged 75 across 3 seasons consistent and buckley loves him

Guthrie: had an excellent preseason and is likely to take over the milburn role and get some permanent footy this season.

Bower: with the exception of an injury ridden 2011 campaign averaged 86.5 and 76.7 in the previous seasons respectively. rattan also has been happy with bowers player of late and there is plenty of opportunity with cartons injured back line.

another not mentioned and generally disliked: Courtney Dempsey- back to good form and is someone who averaged 77 and 74.9 as a consistent lock in essendons back line in the last 2 years before his injured 2011 campaign.

-really I’m glad no one is getting on these cheap back line players because that turns them into POD for me and the minority that have them and will reap the benefits of them. of course have the likes of bugg and ellis in your team but there is room for these more experienced and only slightly more expensive options.

  8. This poll’s got me thinking a little:

    Pendlebury & Smedts Thumbs up
Any other premo & Clarke Thumbs down

    Have Ablett, Murphy, Selwood already

  9. What are people’s thoughts on:

    Swan UP
    Boyd DOWN

Haven’t seen many people with Swan this year. Is there something I’m missing? He has averaged over 120 in each of the last three seasons. Are scores of 46,74 and 80 in preseason scaring people off? Started last season like a house on fire with 3 scores over 150 in his first 4 games. Strongly considering.

  10. Rumour was he’s on his last strike for restricted drugs. So they canned him from the leadership group

  12. Have Clarke at the minute and possibly looking to downgrade to try and strengthen my mids

What do people think of the Def/Mid DPP this year – considering running with Goddard as a Mid so can use the DPP though not sure if it’w worth it.

Also is running with Lake and Golby, two mid-priced Def’s too much of a risk?

  13. I have Clarke and i have now changed Bower to Guthrie. Really not sure on this one. Bower may score higher in the few games he plays but no matter how well he plays i can’t see him retaining his spot in the team. He’s clearly towards the end of the queue of Blues backmen.

  15. Don’t hate him, but IMO not in blues best 22, will get early games until the real backline returns from injury.

  16. Defender dilemma

Goddard, Deledio, Shaw, Broughton, Clarke, Ellis, Bugg, Morris and ?

Currently have Boumann to fill the spot, though not sure about JS. Have thought about Sierakowski, again JS (needs to be elevated off rookie list also). Possibly Docherty, Spurr, Smedts…

Dont normally ask, but have spent too much time thinking about it, and could use some advice. Have 50K left, though would like to keep that for upgrades.
    Cheers Brian.
