Cow Talk Round 10 –> Round 11

Small or Far Away – Father Dougal on Cows

Hi Everybody!

Ok, to start with I am not sure how many rounds really are left. If it is 18 total now because of byes, then we are not quite as close to done as I though but are still close. Would be eight left I think.

Of those eight, it looks like four will be 22 players and four will be best of 18. As I understand it, the plan is for the last two rounds to be full 9 matches and thus a normal 22. The three before that would be best 18 with the 10 teams not having had their byes having their byes. The two before that are already scheduled for 9 matches and the one before that is this next round 11, which is best 18.

That means that while getting to full premium still matters, having those last few non-cows be high quality is less urgent. Devon Smith might well be just fine at F6, for example, since he probably wouldn’t get counted for 3 of the last 5 rounds. If you have trades left for the last two rounds and can do a bit of last minutes upgrading, that’s great, but with so much best 18, we really want a good best 18.

Part of that is sticking to players who have had their byes as much as possible now. Tom Mitchel just had his, so big target.  Anyone hitting a low price who has had their bye is near a must have. Cripps, for those who don’t already have him, is another.  For sure don’t pay top dollar for anyone who still has a bye coming up. If you are going to spend $600k on someone go with Petracca and not Steele, for example. I would still go for huge bargains when they are there, like Simpkin, but other than that think hard before taking anyone who has yet to have their bye.

The other thing to keep in mind is that most of the cows we bring in now will never be harvested for cash. Not enough trades. The Hotel California Effect is going to hit hard soon. That and the lack of time left will make cash extraction a challenge for any cow brought in from now one. Draper is probably the last big cash maker we will see.  Someone else might put up a not too soon or too late huge score, but that’s like lightning striking.  Well, if you’re Uncle Fester and like being struck by lightning.  If we get three more trades because of the byes, which we should given the precedent, that will help with the limited trades but won’t change the lack of time for growth. We will get some cash from some cows but there just is not enough time for most of them to make a lot of money.

This week’s commentary is again brought to you by the Cow Talk Advisory Panel.

I’m the hamster and I am afraid a lot

I’m the Imaginary Interlocutor and go with my feelings

And I’m me, and I try to make productive use of thinking. Emphasis on the “try”.

Due to the short turnaround, there will definitely be reduced comments.

And probably extra tpyos.

And ungood Grammar!

Defenders

Starcevich: We know who he is, use him however you need.

Noble: Back to his more normal scoring level, but still going up in price. Probably for one more round

Brander: Did not play

Young: Did not play

Hamill: He followed up his 18 with a 4. He has been exiled to Mooron Mountain.  That’s a bit harsh since the low score last week wasn’t his fault.  He may go somewhere else, but go he must. Let us never speak of him again. So sayeth the C-TAP!

Ok, but will you guys please take off the long black robes with the hoods, it’s kind of creeping me out…..

 Williamson:Did not play

Day: Did not play

McKay:

The Eggman-Smith:  He looked kinda lost out there this week, and owch, a 35. There is no good reason to hold him and hope when you could cull him and use the cash. Now listed with the Defenders where he belongs. Even if he scored like a forward last match….that can’t be related could it?

Midfielders

Brown: Did not play

Pickett: If you can hold him one more week, great! If you can make good use of him right now, great!

Mcinerney: Did not play

Hayden: Did not play.

Serong: Did not play.

Caldwell: Did not play

Hibberd: Did not play

Simpson:  Still looks like a lot of money left in him, and probably  points. Barring something unexpected he could be one of the last cows traded.

Mayes: I still have no idea what to make of him. Me either! Me either!

Rucks

Pittonet:

Did not play

 Forwards

Budarick:

For many weeks in a row nowI’m afraid he will putter along, playing and scoring 40-45 and just being blahI’m hoping he will putter along, playing and scoring 40-45 and just being blah.  I’m pretty sure his having a job and a Fwd/Mid swing is more important than getting cash from him. Someday He’ll put up a money score.

Actually he is done with big growth and should go before cows not done big growth. Like Starc.

King: Once again, gonna make money, but not so much you have to hold.

Taylor: Many weeks of hurt. Did not play. Did a good job on the cash making; we’ll hold the door for you on your way out.

Vandermeer:  I’m not just afraid he will lose more money, I’m nearly sure of it!  He probably won’t lose so much money this week you can’t hold him, but why on earth hold him in the middle of upgrade season?

Rankine: Scored just a bit past his BE, and good enough to make people who fielded him happy. That 34 in his three round average will still mess up his cash growth this week, but Once it is gone he could shoot up if you hold him past next week. Once again what to do with him is a team by team thing.

Georgiades: Again seems to have more money in him.

Aarts: Rule of Three. Big increase probable this week, and another good score could really pump him up.

Close: I’m gonna guess he will be sort of a Budarick 2.0. I am okay with that since he has DPP and if he can keep his job.  Will be a long time if ever before he makes enough money to be worth harvesting, although you never know.

Mahoney:  I have no idea how I missed him in the past. Adding him in. Of course he appears to have but one more week of use, but still.

Dodgy Advice

Whenever you are really tired and trying to crunch a lot of numbers and stuff before falling asleep, ask a hamster and an imaginary interlocutor to help you….

Remember the Cow Talk guarantee, all advice wrong or triple your money back! (Offer not valid if money is actually involved.)

I have been forgetting to mention: I am time zonally challenged.  When Cow Talk goes live, I’m probably asleep, so replies from me may take a while. Even more so now that I am getting up at zero dark 30 every day to watch footy…..
