Retirees: Scott Thompson

The Brisbane Lions have made five changes to their playing list. The Club has informed Ryan Harwood, Jarrad Jansen, Jonathan Freeman, Josh Clayton and rookie Blake Grewar that their contracts will not be renewed in 2018.

Carlton have informed Kristian Jaksch, Liam Sumner and Andrew Gallucci that their contracts will not be renewed. Blues football manager Andrew McKay left open the possibility of redrafting Sumner.

Heath Hocking’s career at Essendon is over, after the Bombers cut the veteran midfielder.

Retirees: Shane Yarran, Zac Dawson and Garrick Ibbotson

Small forward Josh Cowan will leave the club, after failing to secure a new contract for 2018. The oft-injured Cat played just 16 games in eight seasons, and after another year crueled by injury, Cowan has been told he can explore free agency with another club.

Gold Coast Suns can confirm five players have been advised that their contracts will not be renewed. Senior listed players Jarrad Grant and Mitch Hallahan and rookies Keegan Brooksby, Ryan Davis and Cameron Loersch were each informed of the club’s decision not to extend their contracts during their individual review meetings.

Former Melbourne co-captain Jack Trengove has been delisted, bringing a likely end to a promising career that was jeopardised by a career-threatening foot injury. Trengove, 26, and ruckman Jake Spencer won’t be offered new contracts for the 2018 season while forward Liam Hulett and rookie Mitch White have also been let go.

North Melbourne have advised Lachie Hansen, and two rookies (Will Fordham and Matt Taylor), that they won’t be offered a contract for next season.

St Kilda has begun its initial list changes, with rookie defender Nick Coughlan and international scholarship holder Joe Baker-Thomas delisted. Neither player made their senior debut.

Simon Tunbridge’s bid to save his West Coast career has come up short, with the Eagles delisting the luckless forward after five seasons.

Retirees: Matthew Boyd and Bob Murphy

Midfielder Josh Prudden has been delisted by the Western Bulldogs for the second time in two years with third-year wingman Declan Hamilton being delisted after never playing a senior game. Category B rookie Tristan Tweedie has also been delisted after one season at the club.

  1. Calling it. The very low on trades Hawthorn will be after Spencer and maybe Freeman.

    Wouldn’t be surprised at Freo chasing both either, and Carlton chasing Spencer.
