Daisy?

Written by Big Sexy on May 8 2013

It seems Daisy Thomas is hot on peoples radar after a late start to the season, followed by the vest and a couple of average scores…. then BAM 150!  He has dropped $87k to $428k and now has a BE of 47.  He wasn’t on my radar at the start of the season, but is now fairly and squarely in my sights.  Where do you sit?

  1. Is he really worth it ?
He’s never been a huge scorer in this game and Friday night was a one-off. He won’t get that away with that against good sides and with Ball and Beams returning soon I don’t like his chances.

  2. this year I said I am not having any rangas in my team or people with no necks. So on that premise Daisy fits the bill nicely and will join my team.

  3. Here is a question I’ve been thinking about over the last 24 hours…
I was also originally keen on Daisy…..However I prefer Nic Nat in in a few weeks…..So than the question kind of becomes who is better in F6 out of these two for at least the next 8-10 weeks …….

Thumbs up – Kennedy ( and save a trade as he’s in my team already )

    Thumbs down – Daisy

  4. This is my first season of supercoach so looking for some advice… How important is having spare cash at this stage of the season?

I can make 2 trades right now and replace Westhoff/Neade in my forward line with Daisy/Stevie J but that leaves me with only 8300 in the bank (maybe not enough to get Priddis etc). Forward line becomes Buddy, Daisy, Stevie J, Bartel, Rockliff, Breust (POD) and Dwyer and Rowe on the pine.

Or I can make just the 1 trade and go Westhoff to either Daisy or Stevie J (Most likely Stevie) and have approx 250k in the bank..

Thumbs up – do both trades and get as many premiums on board quick smart

Thumbs down – Do just the 1 trade and have some $ in the bank for fallen premiums in the next few rounds

    Thanks lads

  5. Tempted on Daisy, but I’m still thinking about Andrew Walker. I’m kicking myself for not picking him up earlier.

Now that he’s gone up $120k, is he too risky?

T/U: He’s a genuine premium fwd since Mick reinvented him.
T/D: He’s likely to start getting patchy scores. Avoid.

  6. Present thoughts are to go Waters into Hurn, Waters is always injured and Hurn has played 22 games for the last 2 seasons so his durability is great….everyone stay away from Hurn as he will get injured soon as I plonk him in my team

Dwyer becomes Daisy which leaves me with 340K in the war chest to bring in 2 of Priddis, Watson or Selwood in the next 1-2 weeks.

  7. I’d love to get Daisy but my priority above that is to get Gazza Abs in my team, so am opting to do that instead in replace of Byrnes and Neade. I kinda wanted to give Byrnes another week as they are playing Gold Coast this week and he could bag a few, but decided that O’Meara is better to keep this week as still got money to make. Maybe Daisy next week, depending on this weeks score, but probably just get Priddis & Nic Nat when he drops in price.

  10. Need to fix up my backline this week, bringing in H. Shaw for one of the rookies. Daisy or Priddis will have to wait until next week, no spare cash to do 2 trade ups.

  11. Next 3 games against freo Geelong and Sydney.. Won’t crack the ton in any of those games. Hardest 3 teams to score against. IMO.

  12. In my first year 2011, was the first year of byes, not understanding this when I set my team out about 1hr before season opener I had 11 Pies players in my team that I had to cull before round 7!! (yeah complete Sherlock!!)

At the time I had to cull Pies…Daisy was avg 92 ppg I think…was a bit of a roller coaster over the first 6 rounds 75, 107, 60, 137, 81, 92 which I wanted more consistency from mids. At the same time Dids was having a bad start to the year I’d already lost some money on him yet was holding faith he’d turn it around, maybe a small niggle. Leading into 2011 season both Dids & Chappy were the #1&2 FWD/MIDs from 2010. I kept thinking Dids will turn it around and as I’d already lost money and his DPP I didn’t want to lose that value from my team on a trade (as I say i was a noob!) and so in not one of my greatest moves I made a decision to trade Daisy instead into someone else that will be more consisent in my mids.

Next 8 weeks Daisy went 127, 151, 157, 108, 86, 121, 146, 146 for an avg of 130.25 over those rounds and was being lauded as an ELITE player, heralded by the likes of Lyons and others as one of the best gut runners in the competition. He even went on to score another 133, 103, 126 that year and racked up 528 disposals for an avg 25.1 per game

Coming off his 2010 where he hit 623 disposals at 24.0 per game

Not many SC FWDs in the comp can hit 500-600 disposals per season as Daisy can and even if he didn’t start the year as he has, looking at the team in Jan Daisy along with Rockliff would have been one of the first FWDs picked in my team.

2012 he was down avg 21 disposals per game for 96.4SC pts which included 10 games of 100+ pts and one dismal game Round 20 where he only had 8 touches (might have been inj?) for a score of 23 – if you take that out of the equation then he was closer to 100ppg in a rather disappointing year…

At his new low price and potential new Leon Davis/Walker role sweeping across HBF allowing Harry O up the ground I expect Daisy to do well from here on out

  13. Can someone please answer for me what woud Daisy’s $$ increase to if he scores say 100-110 this week? Will he still be cheap, despite his 47BE … given the earlier low scores … and thus can you wait a week to fix up backline first and still get him low??
Where’s the best place to find predicted $$?
