Eagling’s LoEC2 Wrap – R18

The Round 17 Review

The Holyhead Harpies have been officially eliminated from LoEC2 Major League Finals chances.   They are a chance to fall out of the top 16 if results go in a certain direction, with Bring Back Ratts surging going 4-1 from its past 5.

The carnage has well and truly begun in Supercoach land; Ablett is out for the season; Rockliff was held on the weekend; Buddy and Beams missed, while Tom Mitchell was named as the Sub, but for me, at least Mitchell’s sub game and Hannebery’s stinker happened against a team which had both; and the players had poor games against West Coast; who have surely secured their status as contenders for a top four spot.

This week I’m looking to secure my spot in the LoEC2 Minor League Finals; deal with Gary Ablett, and hopefully notch up 100 correct LoEC2 predictions. I’m certainly not going to tank the Minor League Finals (If I make them).

During the editing of this publication, news that Nat Fyfe will miss on the weekend broke. Every single coach has to deal with this; so cover becomes very important.

Round 18 Preview

teamcustard (8, 36 Points, 1 Trade) v Sean’s Mob (6, 36, 6)

PODS: Smith, Maynard, Saad, Malceski, McDonald, Rockliff, Kavanagh, Neale, Armitage, Naitanui, Bontempelli, Mitchell, Dahlhaus v Newnes, Hibberd, Gibson, Murphy, Ablett, Parker, Priddis, Blakely, Maric, Franklin, Dale, Harvey, Riewoldt.

Both teams can secure a finals spot with a win, whereas a loss leaves them vulnerable to missing out. The home team has nearly ran out of trades, whereas the away side has Gary Ablett and 6 left. I’m going to tip the away side to prevail here.

2 Boyds, 1 Cup (13, 28, 3) v RELIEABLES (1, 48, 6)

PODS: Lever, McKenzie, Hibberd, Docherty, Birchall, Kennedy, Rockliff, Wines, Neal-Bullen, Sidebottom, Maric, Downie, Mitchell, Dahlhaus, Daniel v Smith, Houli, Goddard, Langdon, Fields, Dangerfield, Neale, Priddis, Adamson, Steven, Jacobs, Swan, Knight, Zorko, Ryder

The home side will play in the Minor League Finals; the away side will finish top 2. Both sides have to deal with Ablett, and I reckon the away side has the better team and will finish on top.

Small Victories (5, 36, 3) v LI’L SEBASTIAN (12, 28, 1)

PODS: Simpson, Gibson, Hodge, Maynard, Goddard, Ibbotson, Ablett, Parker, Hannebery, Stretch, Jacobs, Lambert, Dahlhaus v Houli, Yeo, Edwards, Laird, Dangerfield, Rockliff, Kavanagh, Amon, Adamson, Deledio, Maric, McKernan, Daniel

The home side can secure a spot in the finals with a win; the away side will play in the minor league finals. I reckon the home side just edges this one.

Bring Back Ratts (17, 20, 4) v The Brown Shorts (11, 28, 6)

PODS: Simpson, Pearce, Houli, Goddard, Rance, Burgoyne, Dangerfield, Rockliff, Wines, Boston, Cockatoo, Adams, Goldstein, Jacobs, Lambert, Dale, Zorko, McGovern v Newnes, Lever, McKenzie, Yeo, Saad, Docherty, Malceski, Ablett, Selwood, Hannebery, Griffen, Barlow, Naitanui, McKernan, Mitchell, Franklin, Daniel

The home side can play minor league finals, but only with a win. The away side is guaranteed to play minor league finals. I reckon the home side will continue its surge and gain victory here. [Motts: FINALLY I get picked!]

Jetz (7, 36, 3) v Holyhead Harpies (15, 24, 8)

PODS: Shaw, Hamling, Houli, Edwards, Ibbotson, Beams, Selwood, Ward, Bontempelli, Goddard, Daniel, Dale v Hibberd, Pearce, Maynard, Saad, Birchall, Higgins, Ablett, Wines, Cripps, Lambert, McGovern, Gawn

The home side can secure a position in the finals with a win, while the away side can secure a position in the minor finals with a win. I reckon the home side will just edge this one.

Mack Attack (16, 24, 3) v MaxPowerExperience (4, 40, 4)

PODS: Smith, Simpson, Gibson, Malceski, Lumumba, Kennedy, Rockliff, Selwood, Wallis, Boak, Maric, McKernan, Lambert, Franklin, Zorko, Krakouer v Shaw, Lever, Hibberd, Houli, Maynard, Docherty, Beams, Dangerfield, Wines, Hannebery, Kavanagh, Goldstein, Bontempelli, Mitchell, Dahlhaus, Dale

The home side needs to win to guarantee a place in the minor finals. The away side will play finals; and will help its chances of a top 4 finish with a win. Both sides have Ablett to deal with; I reckon the away side has this one.

500Miles (18, 8, 2) v Demons of Darch (3, 40, 4)

PODS: Shaw, Gibson, Houli, Maynard, Pittard, Kavanagh, Lewis, Cripps, Cockatoo, Barlow, Maric, Hannath, Lambert, Smith v Smith, Newnes, Hamling, Simpson, McKenzie, Hibberd, Beams, Dangerfield, Parker, Heeney, Mundy, Naitanui, Franklin, Daniel

The home side will receive the Wooden Spoon; the away side will play finals, and can improve its chances of a double chance with a win. I reckon the away side will easily win here.

Tankers (2, 48, 6) v The Convict (14, 28, 3)

PODS: Smith, Newnes, Hamling, Lever, McKenzie, Yeo, Murphy, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Ablett, Rockliff, Priddis, Ward, Read, Naitanui, Gray, Lambert, Daniel, Zorko v Goddard, Edwards, Picken, Colquhoun, Laird, Hurley, Beams, Wines, Parker, Neale, Griffen, Lewis, Boston, Biggs, McKernan, Cox, Mitchell, Goddard, Finlayson

The home side is guaranteed to finish top 2; the away side will play in the minor league finals. I reckon the home side will easily prevail.

wobblesbegone (10, 32, 3) v Armchair Sportsman (9, 32, 3)

PODS: Smith, Saad, McDonald, McIntosh, Sheppard, Beams, Selwood, Priddis, Griffen, Amon, Maric, Downie, O’Brien, Blicavs, Lambert, Mitchell, Franklin v Lever, Simpson, McKenzie, Hodge, Picken, Colquhoun, Rockliff, Parker, Neale, Lewis, Glenn, Goldstein, Cox, Kreuzer, Goddard, Lamb, Motlop

And we bookend this preview with another vitally important clash; both sides have a chance to play finals with a win, lose, or draw and they’ll definitely play in the minor league finals.
