Plays a heavily contested game style which is extremely beneficial for Supercoach and should ensure Oliver safely remains in the top 10 for SC midfielders. Only deterrent could be his interrupted preseason due to having surgery on both shoulders, but he still should be a solid pick whether starting or an upgrade target.

Verdict: Strongly consider for M1-M4.

  1. First lock. Stuttered a bit when I heard about the injury, but is back where belongs at M3. Don’t think he’ll fall from there, but might go the other way 🙂
    Thanks Adam.

    1. I must admit. I was one of the first to go off him when I heard about
      those shoulders.

I only needed to watch a Qtr of JLT before he was back in my side. With his height, he was sharking taps at will and turning them into clearances with the extra room 6/6/6 seemed to provide.

Imagine what he’s capable of with Gawn giving him silver service!

I think he and Cripps can be 1 and 2 mids for the year.( 125+)

I have Macrea, Fyfe and Kelly just behind.( 115-120) Neale
      ( 110+) leads the rest.

I know a lot of people rate Macrea higher.
I just can’t see a very young Dogs ruck department winning enough taps to help him out.

I may have underestimated Macrea. I just think at that price, I will pass.

Pretty happy with Cripps and Oliver at M1 / M2 for now.

      1. I don’t have Macrae at the moment but I don’t think he has ever relied on the Bulldogs rucks to help him get 40 possessions a game, he just seems to accumulate them by running non stop to the right position.

  2. Lol, he had in interrupted pre season last year. Should be used to it by now.
Not sure what’s more risky not starting him due to his issues which seem fine so far, or not starting him and seeing him possible get a 120average.

  3. Every bit of me things Oliver will do just as good if not better this year but I’m interested to see how he goes with Viney and Jones in the side together.
Here’s Olivers averages over the last two years:

    With Viney: 111.4 (25 games)
    Without Viney: 115.3 (19 games)

    With Jones: 112.8 (38 games)
    Without Jones: 115.0 (6 games)

    Without 1: 116.8 (13 games)
Without 2: 105.5 (2 games hardly anything to write about)
    With both: 109.8 (21 games)

Only a slight drop off but a drop off nonetheless! From what I’ve heard Viney and Jones both look good for JLT 2.

  4. He is an upgrade target for me. I agree with Freo Tragic he could be top mid this year. But He plays a very contested ball footy so I want to see how these shoulders can hold because he is bound to get tackled heaps, and shoulders injuries reoccur easily. It really didnt seem to bother him in JLT1 but I did 6 trades for injuries last year so I have decided not to read too much into JLT games for players who haven’t had a full preseason. Will stick to boring lower risk choices (Macrae, Cripps) and pick him up post byes if he is still injury free.
