Macrae enjoyed his best year to date increasing his average by 20.14 to 127.05 and with the recent injury news regarding T Mitchell he starts 2019 as the highest priced midfielder. Only 3 games below 100 in 2018 with an injury affected 51 in RD13 in comparison to 12 of 19 games scoring 120+ with 5 of those 12 exceeding 150. This highlights his consistency and ceiling and if he can maintain his 2018 stat averages then he should comfortably finish in the top 4 SC midfielders.

Verdict: Strongly consider for M1/Upgrade Target

  1. Was locked in my side before the Titch news but without Titch, he should be in just about every side. I remember not owning Grundy last year and waiting for a “price drop”. Could be a similar situation, unless you have an injury to a highly priced premium or are willing to sideways trade he may well cost you 2-3 precious trades later on in season to get him in

    1. Read FD’s post on TLAs. If that doesn’t convince you, nothing will! 😉
Grundy might start slowly without a full-pre-season, but after Rd1 he’s got a pretty easy run right up to the byes, so you won’t be able to generate enough cash to bring him in unless you either keep a whopping bank or use three trades! Gawn the same, but he is older.
I reckon Grundy will improve on 2018, Macrae might, but won’t do worse than the same and Gawn well, he’s the best ruck in the comp and has a fast-improving engine room around him.
I could be wrong, but I’m as confident picking these three as I am Danger.

  2. Just squeezed him in and bumped BCrouch to M6. Feels bloody good popping him in front of Cripps, Oliver and Fyfe but defence takes a hit. Almost feel Whitfield/Mid rookie is a better way to go than Macrae/Def rookie just for pure team balance.

  3. After reading this and FD’s musings I’ve had to shuffle everything to get him in. I think my team looks a lot better with Macrae than without

  4. He plays Gold Coast in round 3 and Carlton in round 5 so I really want him early for those games. Good value alternatives in the mids but can’t avoid the opportunity for some mega scores

  5. Locked even with titch playing.
I won’t lie I get a bit sad seeing his popularity increase.
