Achieved a superb rookie season boasting a 90+ avg rotating through a stacked Geelong midfield and has been regarded as one of the top 3 SC rookies of all time. Could receive more midfield minutes in 2019 due to Ablett potentially being utilised more as a forward which would be beneficial for Kelly as he could reach a 95 to 105 avg.

Verdict: Consider for F2-F4/Upgrade target

  1. Any thoughts on Dahlhaus making an impact? You know how he was used at the Dogs with the likes of Dunkley, Mclean and Wallis. Will that do anything of importance?

  2. Yep. Starter for me. Funny how three months ago everyone poo-poo’d my selection of him. Now he’s in favour and gaining momentum, especially in Twitter-land. And rightly so I reckon. Top 6 carved in stone! If that’s one too many R13s for your side to injest, I’d likely pick him over Heeney!
The Cats early fixture isn’t easy, but he likes the tough games. He scored his tons last year against the Dees (twice), Tigers, Crows, Swans and Giants to name a few. Pies first up and scored 91 last year while still finding his feet.
He also has a contract to play for and will want to set his family up. Has had a huge pre-season … I won’t go on.

    Big tick for me.

  3. Well I’m going against the grain here, because I have big Riddler-style question marks next to this guy’s name on my shortlist. Not that I doubt his ability, because Kelly is a jet-powered jet. But he didn’t get the trade he wanted last year, and not that he’ll be unprofessional about it at all, but I can easily see him cruising to an 85 ppg average this year to see out his contract before he moves on at the end of the season.
Then again, I could be very wrong. Maybe Kelly will be even more motivated this year, as allsaints suggests. In that case, he’s a surefire top 10 forward. What to do?

    Upgrade target…..for now.

    1. Yep, it’s a tough one. Anything other than further improvement and his motivation will be called into question due to that failed trade. Just hard to see him going backwards after such an impressive debut season……..

      1. Backwards? He won’t be going forward much either. Just killing it in the guts!! 😉

PS my season may ride on this.
