Fantasy Premier League 2013/14

Written by MJ on August 13 2013

The SC season has nearly come to a close. For some, this will be a time of reuniting with their loved ones, but for others, fantasy sport just doesn’t stop at AFL. I’ve been playing Fantasy EPL since the 2006/07, making this season my 8th consecutive year in the business. With over 2 million players signing up each season, (compared to SC’s 300,000) it is one of the most popular forms of fantasy sport in the world.

I’m calling all fellow SCT followers who play the game, or are interested in plying your trade for the first time to join the inaugural SuperCoach Talk League. Register at fantasy.premierleague.com and enter the league code: 422747-348046.

Use this thread for any EPL banter, team advice etc.

The first game kicks off this Saturday night at 9.45pm AEST.

Look forward to competing with you over the summer break!

  4. I love my EPL fantasy and I’m alot better at it than SC. Last year I finished in the top 7000 for the overall rankings and in the Australia rankings the top 200 🙂

    Get up Fergie’s Fury!!!

  5. Thought I’d do a small write up and share my thoughts with everyone…
EPL Fantasy “Bargin Buys & Diamonds in the rough”

    Goalkeepers

    Stekelenburg( Fulham) – 5.0m
Proven quality GK at the highest level, formerly employed by Roma in the Serie A, he becomes Fulham’s no.1 with Schwarzer making the move to Chelsea

    Boruc (Southampton) – 4.5m
Southampton impressed last season, surprisingly a number of clean sheets and with a relatively easy first 4 gameweeks Boruc is a lock for my no.2 GK

    Defenders:

    Toure (Liverpool) – 5.0m
Coming off a doping ban, Toure has been given a second chance at Liverpool and so far has taken it playing a majority of the pre-season games. Seems he should start along side Agger with Napoli showing heavy interest in Martin Skrtel. We shall see though….it’s a gamble I’m willing to take with the former Gunners star

    Walker (Tottenham)-6.0m
Personally, I think he is undervalued and is the best way into the Spurs backline (Unless you want to spend 7m on Vertonghen) he also loves to attack down the right hand side and should pick up assists

Shaw or Clyne (Southampton) – 4.5m
Both these youngsters love to attack down the flanks, if Southhampton show form like last season these two should provide good bench cover. Either one is a good option

    Midfielders

    Hazard(Chelsea) – 9.5m
A popular choice, last season he started off with a bang….it’s his second year in the EPL this year and should only get better. Chelsea also have a double GW first off

    Silva(Man City)- 9.0m
Last season was disappointing for the Spaniard, however new manager, new year, if he can replicate his 1st season form look out! Man City are prone to midfield rotation, however he is at the top of the pecking order

    Kagawa (Manchester United) – 8.0m
Didn’t get going last season but did show flashes of brilliance….he played out of position most of the time. If Rooney leaves and he gets to play in the hole behind RVP he could form a lethal partnership and huge scoring potential

    Thomas (Crystal P) – 4.5m
This guy helped Crystal Palace back to the top flight with some stellar performances, can do the same on the biggest stage of them all?

    Sterling (Liverpool) – 5.5m
This kid was great last season and the impact he had off Liverpool’s bench was amazing. Plays further up the pitch in a 4-3-3, he should get more game time with Suarez banned for the first 6 games

    Cole (West Ham) 5.5m
Back at his boyhood club, a star fallen from grace, as the performances he turned in at Chelsea seem like a lifetime ago. Can he prove form is temporary, class is permanent?

    Forwards
    Kone(Everton) – 7.0m
Links up with his former Wigan boss and should somewhat be favoured, however Jelavic has been on fire in pre-season, starts aren’t a lock for this guy

    Anelka( West Brom) – 5.5m
Returns to the league he knows so well, a proven goal scorer in the EPL and should get playing time at West Brom. I’m hoping he provides me with good bench cover

    Cornelius(Cardiff) – 5.5m
Honestly don’t know much about this guy, I’ve only heard good things and apparently that his the best striker from the promoted teams

    Berbatov (Fulham)- 7.5m
Had a monstrous pre-season shedding the pounds and now the former “EPL’s laziest player” is sporting a six-pack!! This guy is absolute class, as he showed everyone last season. Fulham’s summer signings can only help his cause

  6. Chelsea and Aston Villa play twice in the first gameweek. Villa are S**t but i would advise having at least two Chelsea players in your team to start with, and make one of them Captain.

  7. i’m in!

As an englishman born and bred i used to play fantasy EPL almost religiously. However having emigrated and started playing Supercoach, I honestly think Supercoach is a superior fantasy game.

That said i look forward renewing old acquaintances with fantasy EPL and getting my own back after a disappointing supercoach season.

  9. DeeZNutZ Utd is in! 2nd year in the EPL Fantasy for me, needed something to keep my itchy trade fingers busy in the off season!

Be interested to see what formation fellow managers think gives maximum points…? I’m going with a 3-5-2 formation, loading up in the mids.

Oh and thanks MJ for creating & hosting this league!

  10. I tried it yonks ago and it did my head in then… but none of my mates were into it, so lost interest after awhile.

But now that there’s an SCT league setup… count me in!

Couldn’t think of a good team name, so opted to combine some early names of the 2 teams I follow passionately and ended up with DialSquareMayblooms!!

Look forward to more sleepless nights!!

  11. My first year in the EPL, rookie lessons so far seem to be…..
    1) start with either 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.
    2) RVP basically stands for GAJ.
3)Some weeks a player has two cracks at it…..other weeks…not so much.
4)Wolfswinkel has gotta be the coolest name on the planet.

First draft here, how did I go? Mignolet, Davis, Azpilicueta, Mertesacker, Baker, Zabaleta, Baines, Nolan, Coutinho, Walcott, Thomas, Benteke, Lambert, Anelka.
