Final Day Nerves?

by Motts on March 25, 2010

The day has arrived. Its time to draw back the curtain on your team. The product of all your analysis, re-analysis and in the end over-analysis over these last 6 weeks.

My boys, The Maulers, had their guernsey presentation last night at Crown. It was a very muted affair with a lot of water being drunk as I droned on about the need to focus, the pride they need to take in the jumper, the players who have gone before them, and the burning desire for success that I expected all of them to have.

I think we’ve answered every question related to team selection possible but I’m sure there will be more to come today. Post ‘em in here.

Oh, and one last thing before tonight….GO YOU MIGHTY BLUE BOYS!!!!

Carrazzo is the only one I’d question there, Scratcher. If he plays a tagging role it will negatively affect his numbers. And Lord knows the Blues have enough midfielders.

I feel I need to take a break from here today, every time I do I make a change and then think was that right thing and then I’ll read something and my mind changes again… good side selected though it’ll be on like Donkey Kong tonight!!
Footy is back, what a great day of the year! If you truly want to see grown men excited then this is the day.

Team is all sorted (barring injuries of course).

Stuck on my 4th fwd though. Still deciding between Roberts for Richmond and Hitchcock for Port. I know Roberts is playing tonight so I’m swinging towards him more. Does anyone have a preference and which one do you feel will play more?

Good luck everyone!

4th or 7th? Its a little early on in your forward line to be considering those bombers.

If Hitchcock doesn’t get named at 5pm then go Roberts – having blokes that play is the most important thing at this time of the year.

I don’t know if they had the inside word or how they got their info, but on the footy show last night they named Hitchock (and Stewart) to play tonight. I wouldn’t take it as gospel, but they certainly promoted it as the official team.

up late last night putting the final touches to my team. i had struggled for about 3 days getting it right and always seemed to be 100k short. now i’m happy with my team (i think!) and i have 100k spare and don’t have anyone i really want to spend it on. :/

I think he will play, but because he’s underdone I wouldn’t be picking him. There are plenty of other premium options at his price level that will score just as well.

Motts March 25, 2010 at 9:31 am

Neither should really be on your field, Cam. I still think the only starting spot a rookie should be playing in is in your midfield. Having said that, if you’re team is locked down then I’d pick Pods.

in that case then should i downgrade cooney to say masten or dangerfield to upgrade the forwards? i think my team is fairly settled but i wanna make sure my team can be as good as it can be…

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Reply

Motts March 25, 2010 at 9:48 am

OK there’s a few things you could do here, Cam. Let me put 2 options to you:

1) downgrade to Mitch Robinson – yes its a risk because he’s been a little inconsistent in the past but his preseason was great and he looks set for a big one. That then gives you ~$210k to upgrade your last forward spot which should buy you something nice. (I don’t know about Dangerfield tho’ – certainly didn’t impress me in the NAB series).

2) go another rook in the midfield. Yes this is probably even riskier but you’ve got to have a crack sometimes to separate yourself from the pack. Trengove or Scully are going to play all year (if you haven’t already got him though I’d take T over S). You’ll get a higher value gain on a midfielder than a rookie forward given the amount of possessions they are more likely to get which sets you up better for the future. And you’ll be able to pick up an even better forward with the extra $ you pick up from the middle downgrade. Does this make sense?

Motts what are your thoughts on Ben Nason at Tigerland? Cheap @ 90 odd k and he got named for his debut tonight, though there are a few peeps who think he wont stick in the seniors for that long. Still, I cant see Hardwick dropping him after one game unless he’s shocking…could be a good cashcow ahead of Rd 4?

(Im basically trying to validate him as my 7th/8th def here so I can keep Schonemakers in. Just dont get me started about my rucks…)

ok, here’s my team:

def: goddard, enright, hodge, gram, hunt, ladson, waters
emg: maguire, nason

mid: ablett (c), selwood, harvey, ball, trengrove, martin
emg: mcveigh, barlow

ruc: tippett, naitanui
emg: warnock, lobbe

fwd: riewoldt, o’keefe, gray, hall, dangerfield, ziebell, rockliff
emg: gumbleton, podsiably

i’ll admit it’s probably a risky team (and subject to change a little with teams announced later today). my main concerns are rockliff/pods/gumbleton as a playing rookie in the fwd and hunt/ladson as two roughies in the backline. i *think* i’m happy with my midfield and ruck selections.

mcveigh is there to swap for trengrove/martin after his suspension.

any thoughts? all appreciated. :)

There were a heap of proven performers that scored well in the preseason, PA. Coon wasn’t one of them. I hope he proves he can get back to Brownlow form in the H&A season but at this stage, going by what I have in front of me, I honestly can’t say he’s a great choice.

I think he is a certainty and the Footy Show is full of it. You don’t promote a rookie that early unless he’s a starter. Lock him in. I’ve followed Motts’ advice and have him as a starter now *gulp*. Him and Trengove this week given Martin is in doubt for tonight.

Don’t take it as gospel, but a Victorian radio station just announced he has stomach pain (prolly caught it from Cuz). I’m scanning all media I can now to actually get a link (I should have kept my trap shut till I have some better evidence).

Can’t find anything…someone mentioned it at http://www.dreamteamtalk.com, but I think it might be rubbish. I also got an SMS from a friend in Melbourne telling me to drop him, but turns out he only read it on dreamteamtalk too. Keep your eyes peeled just in case.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t see the footy show, but I heard something about it on the radio. I’ve been thinking about replacing Barlow on my bench with Shuey or Strauss, but, the truth is, I’m getting a little antsy waiting for this thing to kick off, so, I think I’ll take your advice and keep him locked in.
Martin is in doubt for tonight??? shit, he is in my midfield, can you give me some details?

“News from the Cats Mitch Duncan will make his debut. Josh Hunt and Tom Lonergan are in, Podsiadly and Steven Motlop emergencies “

Silvagni has been elevated off the rookie list!!

First paragraph; “FREMANTLE has elevated rookies Alex Silvagni and Jay van Berlo ahead of the side’s round-one clash with Adelaide, while VFL recruit Michael Barlow, who has already been promoted to the senior team, is expected to play this weekend.”

OK, final selection dilema:

Trengrove from Melb, or Morabitto from Freo?

Otherwise team looks settled with only L Franklin not actually scoring.
