Final Friday Thoughts

Written by Duck on May 17 2013

We should all have our teams pretty much locked down by now, but if you’re still tossing up one thing or another, let us know and someone will provide some clarity …. hopefully.

I’m having trouble deciding between Majak Daw or Max Gawn – who to put on the ground?

  2. I need to make some money for a midfield upgrade and my backline has a donut..trading Gibbs for someone around the $38-$410k mark, who is my best option? Plenty of choices.. Golby,Obrien,McKenzie,Myers,Broughton,Mohr,Otten,Rance,Lake,Mackie?

  3. I’ve just about convienced myself that Vlasuin is worth $200k and a trade from Pittard. Any one have any compelling reasons why he should NOT be picked up, other than the inflated price? I stayed firm on not trading post bubble rookies last year, and got burnt by Zorko. Learning from my past mistakes, maybe???

Thumbs up – He’s got great JS and scoring potential
Thumbs down – $200K too much for an unproven rookie.

  4. Tossing up between Neade and Stevenson to downgrade.

T/U – Stevenson – Thurlow (or maybe go early on Staker?)
    T/D – Neade – B Kennedy

  5. Still unsure what to do with daisy. tough call as im nervous its going to be more than 2 weeks.

Thumbs up: Neade to kennedy and daisy to priddis +250k

Thumbs down: Neade to Kennedy and Wines to Priddis +70k. leaving daisy to ride the pine

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers guys

  6. A vote on the following would be great

I know who I want to bring in (Priddis & Stevie J). I just dont know who to cull

Its between Thomas, Zorko & Hartlett. Thinking of keeping Thomas for one week as his price wont change and the other two have high BEs

If I go Hartlett to Stevie J then I keep my DPP link between mids and fwd line

If I go Zorko then I loose my DPP link.

    Which one do I trade

    Hartlett (thumbs up)
    Zorko (thumbs down)

  10. Guys, I’m absolutely stuck with whether to go with Priddis or Buddy, here’s how the team will be for either one I go with:

    Buddy- 1 donut (viney)
Priddis- 2 donuts potentially (viney and neade)

    Who is the better option?
    T/U Buddy
    T/D Priddis

  11. For those who have had some concerns about what Hawthorn will do.
If you did watch Crawf he said beware even if they name people they may not come up.

The Good News. My Mate flying back from Vietnam to Hobart was in the Lounge and can confirm.
Luke Hodge was there and off to Tassie
Buddy Franklin was there and off to Tassie.
However he did not notice Sam Mitchell, but did say they all look so young he may have been there. (He is a Swans Supporter, may not even recognise Mitchell).

  12. I’m fairly new at SC and i’ve been burning 2 trades per round to stay on top of my ladder!
As my head is approaching Zeppelin proportions should I continue to ruthlessly sledge everyone in my league or is it time to show some class to avoid reciprocation later in the season?

    T/U – Keep it up
T/D – Pull my head in

  13. Changes to the Dirty Kelsos this week:

    Pittard – Lonergan (via Gibbs)
    Neade – Priddis

Going to have to wear a possible price drop on Stevenson but quietly rapt that Heath isn’t selected to hold his price and Hutchins was… no donuts!

Wishing Brent Staker the best of luck in his return also…

  14. Ok, I’ve changed my trades again and am now keeping both Daisy and Gibbs. Both will ride the pine and hopefully Gibbs is back next week. I am now trading Heath and Mayes. Bringing in Priddis and Witts (via cox to the forwards, and Vlastuin to the backs). This will give me no Doghnuts, and once Gibbs Is back I will only have one rookie on field for each position. I know Witts won’t do much, but at 115k there are no other ruck options, and at R4 he won’t get used anyway.

  15. Already done the 1 trade in Daisy>Priddis

    Now my 2nd trade?
T/U – Swing Neade into mid and trade for Lonergan (losing my Mid/Fwd swing)
    T/D – Trade Heath>Thurlow
Comment – Trade Neade and take a punt on Staker

    Thankyou for your input 🙂

  16. Holding Daisy for the moment. Have gone Neade -> Ben Kennedy and Wines -> Priddis.

Leaves me about $120k in the bank, and should allow to me Downgrade+Upgrade the next couple of weeks for Selwood and Naitanui, and still have some change to put towards filling out the back line.

Only 4 upgrades left to do (+ a sideways Daisy trade if he proves to be out of action past the byes) from here on out, with 19 trades in the bank.

  17. Who to start on the field?

    Thumbs up: Macaffer
    Thumbs down: Dwyer
Comment: Neade (assuming he makes the final squad)

  18. Wines >> Priddis is done.

I’m convinced we won’t see Daisy again until rd 14. Therefore I’ll look at Daisy >> Buddy tomorrow morning pending final teams. Just means I’ll have to persist with Monfries for another week or two (over Macaffer).

  20. Im in a bit of a pickle too….but not a forced one. I could do no trades and have a win, but im tossing up between a few.

    TU:
    Stevenson>vlastuin
    Neade>priddis
Leaves 40k and byrnes to trade next week

    TD:
    Stevenson>thurlow
    Neade>selwood
    Leaves 11k and byrnes

    Comment:
    Neade>cotchin
    Byrnes>B kennedy
Leave 38k but Stevenson will likely drop coin, but cotch is playing Melbourne….

  21. Has anyone actually held onto Zorko?

My plan was to bring in the Bud’ around now, maybe a week later. But given Zorko has been affected by both Crazy Voss hiding him in the forward pocket and getting a bit more attention, is it worth the straight swap for him to the Bud’? That would be as opposed to double trade next week to get Bud’ in for a McAffer, or similar. Using my other trade this week to get Priddis in – no cash left after that.

T/U – get Bud’ this week for Zorko
T/D – get Bud’ next week for a rookie. Zorko will come good.

  22. I have Maric and going to bench him as his rested because of his ankle. Although now have to either play Daw or Macaffer

    T/U – Daw
    T/D – Macaffer

  23. Gonna be a busy weekend for me got the usual captains loophole and 2 emergency loopholes this round thanks to pittard and crouch. One of these better work out I have not gained anything so far this year using this cursed loophole week after week.

  24. Thinking of trading mcveigh and my two options are priddis or vlastin, I think both will score similar this week but I will have more money for upgrades next week and I feel the trade to priddis is just a sideways trade from McVeigh. Thought?

  25. many donuts in the midfield for me this week want a premium in the midfield to replace Daisy, already have another trade this week for priddis so i
have my eyes on deledio-79k and kennedy-67

    TU: deledio

    TD: kennedy
    other midfield suggestions welcome..

  26. Not sure who to play on the field, one of the following have to play S. Mayers of Brisbane or K. Stevens from the Dogs

    Mayers (thumbs up)
    Stevens (thumbs down)

    Thanks,

  27. BigRuss is bringing in both Buddy and Priddis this week. No Gibbs again disappoints him but surely he must make a return next week……. or the week after.

  28. Thinking of something a little different, Hill to Delidio rather than Hill – Priddis. Reasons are:

    1) he is a better player
    2) League matches will be much more interesting without the whole midfield being the same
    3) Delidio is relatively cheap, durable and should improve overall average with Richmond (hopefully) winning more this year. Think he can avg 120 from here to the end.

Know all the talk about the tag, every mid suffers from time to time so not too worried about it. Cotch should get it on occasions too.

TU mate, why haven`t they asked you to write columns on here
TD you`re thinking too much and take that Black and yellow eye patch off.

  29. Not sure best way to get Priddis in to my team. I have downgraded Neade to Kennedy so deciding whether to upgrade Evans or downgrade either Shuey, Maloney or Mundy which should give me enough cash next week to get Selwood or Jobe. Any help would be much appreciated!

  30. Im going to be one short in the back line, with Gibbs still injured, Docherty some how not getting a game at the Lions and Heath Shaw getting suspended the week i get him..nnnooooo!
My Midfield also could potentially be short with Neade, Crouch and Viney all not playing.
My forward line is hurting with the loss of Thomas whom i also got a week ago.

My original plan was to get Pridis in for Wines and Franklin in for Zorko. so my question is do i trade to cover my one donut in defence and midfield or take the hit this week and get Pridis and Franklin who i originally wanted. I’m playing a good friend who i really want to beat but i don’t know if its worth ruining the structure of my team and wasting trades t beat him. I know its hard when you don’t know my full team, but please anyone, make a comment and give me some much needed advice i would greatly appreciate it!! 🙂

  31. I’ve never spent this long thinking about a decision, I know I got a lot of hate for thinking about Beau Waters :/ But for some reason I think if I get him he’ll be average and if I don’t he’ll play well. Someone help me get out of this frame of mind haha!!! I’m an idiot.

  32. Alright.

Which 3/4 players do I field in the forward line?

3 to choose from Mayes, Macaffer, Crozier and Kerridge.

    Cheers.

Next week Stevenson and Neade for birchel and stevie j

  34. Made the necessary cliche trade (Wines->Priddis) but not enough left over for Franklin this week (the plan is to bring in Franklin and Selwood in the next week or two)

I have rookies ready to cash in (Neade, Heath, Hill) but am unsure whether to downgrade this week or wait for another week to look at some potentially better prospects such as Thurlow (def), Menzel (mid) and Staker (for). I don’t want to waste trades on players that will soon be out of the side but I also don’t want to delay having to bring in a premo by a week.

TU – Trade in Kennedy or Lonergan now and bring in an upgrade a week early
TD – Hold tight and bring in better options (with better JS) in a week or so.

  35. Neade an opinion. (couldn’t resist)

I’ve got Neade in my mids atm and raising cash to go Wines -> Priddis

    TU: Trade Neade for Lonergan

TD: Trade Neade for Hannath via blicavs move to mids

Comments on either downgrade targets JS would be appreciated

  36. I am downgrading wines to kerridge but cant decide between stokes and franklin for upgrade from neade. What do people think? Stokes will be more consistent but franklin could score big in the next three games

  37. Guys, what do we do with Gibbs?

He’s gonna be out this week and potentially the later weeks also since Carlton have a pretty easy draw to come.

    T/U – Hold
    T/D – Trade for Priddis

  38. Love the forum – first time poster.

Really want to pull a couple of downgrades this week, for either of Daw, Hannath, Lonergan, or Bennedy. Kerridge is also on the radar, but trying not to get carried away by last week’s score against GWS. I know I’ve missed the boat for the first big increases, but need to milk $150k-odd off two guys over the next 4-6 weeks. Unless there is more carnage, they’ll all be bench players only.

A combination of the above, plus a (hopeful) downgrade to Thurlow next week will leave me around $750-$800,000 and 17 trades, needing six more prems to finish my team.

Through DPP links, I can trade out any combination of Stevenson, Hutchins, Neade or Rowe, although I could hold Neade to next week if he doesn’t get named tomorrow arvo.

    Thoughts would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance 🙂

  39. Thinking of holding Daisy for 2 weeks until Cloke bottoms out with this 36 dragging his price down. And who knows, Daisy might even be back by then! Thoughts everyone?

Thumbs up, you’re a smart Crab!

Thumbs down, stupid Crab, that’s cash and points wasting away on your bench!

In other news, I’m not in for a good week. Hawkins will probably have to stay in for me due to lack of alternatives/dollars and Heater + Daisy on the bench…

  40. Hey guys

T/U – Swing Neade into mid and trade for Lonergan (losing my Mid/Fwd swing)
    T/D – Trade Heath>Thurlow

    Thanks 🙂

  41. Thinking of going Cox as VC, lowest score this season is 96, so he is pretty consistant so far. Since 2010, he has an average of 141 against North.

If he stuffs up I have Cotchin vs MELB, Swan, Pendels vs GEEL, Selwood vs Coll or JPK vs FRE.
I’m leaning towards Cotchin or Pendels if Cox stuffs up.

  42. thanks duck for the heads up on shuey.

I do not have him, but my opposition does in the SC Cash Comp.

Gave me a little smile could be half a chance now.

LOEC 2 again tough, infact when is this league not. fingers triple crossed Buddy Burns it up. Hopfeully Liam (Shaw Bet) is staying away from him this week.

  43. Alright alright. Have ended up going Neade >> Hannath thanks to Blicavs moving into the mids and Wines >> Priddis.

SuperCoach is definitely getting more complicated with the rolling lockout.
    * GAJ as VC with Cotchin (if he plays), Martin or Walker (or Gibbs) to get the C on Sunday.
    * Emergency loophole in the fwds with Rowe the non-player giving me the choice between Mayes and Macaffer.
    * Emergency loophole in the rucks with Maric the non-player giving me the choice between Daw and Hannath.

IF I DON’T STUFF THIS UP I’LL BE AMAZED.

  44. Hey Guys

I want to make the trade Wines > Priddis however I haven’t got enough $$
Is Neade > Staker a good move or is there a better FWD for under $210,000

    Cheers

  45. Trading Heath out for somebody. It has to be Heath, because if I trade Stevenson I cop a donut while if I trade Heath I don’t (I only lose a few grand when Stevenson misses his BE).

So in comes a DEF, preferably a cheapie. Clarke is one game past the bubble, but starting for Brisbane. Laird is the same, except he’s on the bench. Thurlow’s only played one and is on the bench, while Staker hasn’t played yet but was hyped in preseason and finds himself on the Brisbane bench.

I’m happy to pass on Laird.

TU: Clarke and his JS are worth the extra 45k
TD: take one of the guys who haven’t played their two games yet and hope they see a decent run in the side

  46. Any thoughts on David Myers as a mid price def prospect? Plays much more mid than def & has scored pretty consistently other than a green vest affected 36 which is about to go out of his system. Excluding that game, he averages 91.5 & is priced at $385K

  49. Stevenson>Lonergan(via Vlastuin)
    Rowe>B.Kennedy
Two downgrades for me this week. Opting to bypass Priddis and bring in Watson and Birch over the next few weeks when they bottom out

  50. Got full coverage this week and my only major concerns are having Gibbs and Maric on the bench.

However, whilst they can at times be cruel and merciless, sometimes the SC Gods can be on your side for the week.

In my three main leagues (Work, SCT LoEC1, SCT Cash League) all three of my opponents have at least one of their main backmen out (Don Cottagers – LoEC1 has Gibbs & Shaw) and all three have either Maric or Griffen (Don Cottagers has both). Thank you to the almighty and DC – harsh luck fella.

As a gift to show my gratitude and hopefully continue to appease the Gods I have sacrificed Relton Roberts.

  51. After careful analysis, just pulled the trigger on S. Kerridge over B. Kennedy and J. Lonergan.

    Five reasons:
    1. Job security
    2. Projected to score more than the other two
    3. Projected to make more cash than the other two
    4. Is a handy DPP to cover bye rounds, and finals
    5. Albeit against GWS, but can bring home some bacon

  52. So I ended up going:
Wines –> Colquhoun (& regaining my mid/def link)
    then
Neade –> Priddis (by putting Dwyer into the Mids)
    $137, 300

    – V/C on Cox in the forward line tonight.
    – Got Maric on the bench, and played Daw (over Gawn).
    – Put Daisy onto my FWD bench. Maybe next week I will upgrade him. Will wait and see how well Daw goes, also could downgrade one of my rucks too if he goes alright to keep money in the kitty for the next upgrade.
    – Can’t wait to see what Luke Ball brings to the table returning from injury this week. Tempting, bargain basement price!

  53. CKUF! Daw subbed off. Thank god he got that goal or it would would been pathetic. This way it’s just shit.

Haven’t used the emergency loophole all year and kind of forgot about it until I read Roo Bloke (I think) talking about it. Only had about two minutes before the game and had to look up how to do it again. Too slow. FAIL!!
