Final Thoughts Friday

Written by Duck on May 3 2013

It’s here again …. and so is final thoughts Friday. What’s on your mind going into tonight’s game?

Who’s gone for Dane or Pendles as Captain? Great opportunity to VC one of them up then revert back to GAJ tomorrow night. What other combinations are you looking at?

  1. Pendals VC, and if he doesn’t play just go with Watson (hopefully he is not a late withdrawal)

Last question, one trade to fix up my defense,

    Thumbs up Vlaustin
    Thumbs down Brandon Ellis

  2. VC on Pendles, absolutely. Should tear it up, and in the event that he doesn’t then I’ll be tossing up between Gaz vs Freo, or A Walker vs Melbourne.

Incidentally, Walker is the latest inclusion in my team. Have gone Gibbs -> Walker and Dwyer -> Kerridge. Still leaves me with a donut in the backline, but my opponent in my main league this week is probably gonna slaughter me anyway, so thinking long term.

Next week will be Pittard/K Stevens -> Docherty (if named) and Stevenson to a premo Defender. Will leave me with one upgrade left to do at either end of the field, three mid upgrades to come, and a ruck if anyone presents as a better option than Luey.

  3. Copping the backline donuts this week and hoping for the best. Vlas will come in next week if he plays well.

  4. I’m going to carry 2 doughnuts this round (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-4P1WPE-Qg ). I could trade and plug holes; but I’d be forced to trade players I don’t want to.

So, seeing as mostly everyone else is in the same boat (Pittard, Goodes, Hutchins, Heppell and Gibbs), I’m not going to try to plug holes in defence – I’m upgrading elsewhere.

Gawn comes in for Dwyer, and Hutchins goes out for Robinson.

I feel that Gawn will do well enough to make me some cash; and I believe Robinson will be an astute pick with Melbourne, St Kilda, Port Adelaide, Brisbane and GWS in the next five rounds.

However 2nd trade to avoid a donut

T/D Give up on Hutchins and trade to Vlastuin

Thoughts appreciated, cheers guys and good luck this w/end in a chaotic round of withdrawals

  7. am going to have a donut down back regardless of trades and moving around. so i was thinking
    gibbs -> hartlett
    blvicas -> gawn

    t/u: do them
    t/d: wasted trades

  8. Decided to keep goodes, heppell and gibbs.

Decided to go pittard to vlads and blicavs to gawn.

    Will cop the donut.

    Good idea?

  9. Not sure who to upgrade Pittard to, have enough to go straight to Birchall but very tempted by Shaw.

-Shaw’s price has probably hit it’s lowest while Birchall’s has peaked.
-But Birchall is much more reliable
-Birchall will be top 3 defenders this year for sure
-Shaw has averaged 100 for last 2 seasons.
    -Shaw is cheaper

    Thumbs up for Birchall
    Thumbs Down for Shaw

  10. Think I’ve narrowed it down to two options:

    Thumbs UP:
    Gibbs & Hutchins > Shaw & Ellis

    Thumbs DOWN:
Goodes & Pittard > Shaw & Saunders (can’t afford Vlastuin)

  11. Hey guys, can I get a thumbs poll.

I’m trading out Gibbs to cover donuts. I have every intention of getting him back in 3-4 weeks after he has dropped some cash. Trade in options are between Heath shaw and Heath Scotland.

Shaw was my first choice but Scotland has bette fixtures for the next 5 considerably. Scotland seems like the best choice but getting Gibbs back would be 2 blues in the backline.

    Thoughts?

    Thumbs up: Heath Shaw

    Thumbs down: Heath Scotland.

  12. Has anyone considered Scott Thompson($498,000 BE 31 avg 100) from NTH as another possibly option?
averaged 87 last year and looks in better form this year.

Is an absolute gun at marks from opposition kicks which scores well in SC. Nth Melb will probably have a fair few close games so that should give him opportunity to bump up his scores.
Big POD only 1.5% of teams.

I personally feel he will probably maintain his avg of 100 or maybe +5-10 pts max. So in terms of value he is priced about what you would expect but the fact that so few people have him makes him very tempting for me.

    What do we think?

  13. Hey guys
Tossing up between the following options and want to know what you guys think
    T/U
    Blicavs->Gawn
    Goodes->Hartlett
    OR
    T/D
    Blcavs->Gawn
    Pittard->Shaw

  14. Need to do 2 trades to avoid a doughnut and thinking a little left field. Have 4 backs out so these are my current options.

    TU Goodes – Shaw
Gibbs – B Ellis (with a view to getting Gibbs back in 5/6 weeks)
    or

TD Wines – Shaw (Goodes to mids)
    Gibbs – Scotland

Crazy or good idea? Saw the Ellis idea on here btw, can`t claim it as my own! Scotland has sweet upcoming fixtures and Ellis has a 134 in his system and Conca out. Suggestions welcome…

  16. defence is in shambles this week!
no heppell, gibbs, goodes and pittard
ive decided to not make any changes to the backline. its a marathon and not a sprint.
reasoning: downgrade options seem to be one of vlastuin, sierakowski and corr. none of which are on the bubble so no money is to be made and vlastuin scored a low 39 with the other two we havent even seen.

obviously having the extra back line donut is not ideal but by not trading pittard this week it gives us the chance to see how vlastuin and co go this week and also pittard COULD be back next week along with heppell.
my only trade this week has been blicavs – > gawn.
as the weeks go on id prefer to use my trades with one downgrade and one upgrade to premium a week

  17. Defensive upgrade:

Thumbs up- Shaw (frustrating but cheap)

Thumbs down- Scotland (consistent scorer and great run coming up)

  18. Hey guys how do these trades sound:
    Pittard – Saunders
Dwyer – Robinson (Carlton have a good draw coming up soon)

    T/U Good trades
    T/D Bad trades

  19. Just the one trade this week. Bliclavs for gawn.
Copping two 0s this week but I don’t want to trade any of my premiums or cash cows just yet.

  20. I see a lot of people are keen on the Blicavs – Gawn trade.

My thinking is that the trades used aren’t worth the cash given that most teams would have 2x quality ruckmen.
1 trade to get Gawn in.
2nd trade to get Gawn out for rookie ruckman
3rd trade to use the $$ generated (unless u’ve got a ruck/fwd u can swing into the ruck).

With rookies elsewhere it’s a trade in, make cash, upgrade to premium.

  21. should i trade colquhoun just to save a donut? or just suffer for this week?
    TU: TRADE
    TD: DONUT

  22. Definitely going to trade Pittard to Ellis and umming and ahhing about covering the doughnut with a Gibbs trade (to Waters or possibly a kitty building downgrade to Terlich) or the much discussed Blicavs to Gawn trade. Not stressed at the moment, trade time will be tomorrow afternoon before the North and Port game.

With Rowe out it means i can use the emergency loophole with Macaffer and Neade.

VC heading to GAJ with the C going to Walker.

  23. have gibbs heppel goodes and pittard all down back and 220,000 in the bank

(tu) trade mark blicavs to max gawn and have enough money to bring in hamish hartlett for pittard

(td)save both trades and cop the 2 zeros

i am really liking the look of bringing in gawn though but any advice would be great 🙂

  24. feel like i’ve been wasting trades, but went Gibbs and Goodes to Shaw and Birchall. That still leaves me with a zero in my backline though.
Before trades I had HEP, GIBBS, PITTARD, GOODES AND PLOWMAN
And can’t forget FYFE in the mids who will be covered by Viney!!
    Any other trade sugestions??

    How is his job security?

    T/U – Vlastuin
    T/D – Corr

    Thanks 🙂

  29. Just reversed my trade. Kept Bliclavs instead of trading for gawn. Trades are gold and might need them later. Copping two donughts but should win my league.

  30. Trades reversed: not convinced on Vlastuin, and with Rowe not named am now going : Rowe -> Gawn …. And … Goodes -> Hurn. Leaves me with no cash, but Defence now looks solid, especially when Gibbs comes back in will only need to start one rookie.

  31. Hartlett and Yarran in
    Gibbs and Fyfe out
Few sideways and down trades otherwise I was getting zeros in multiple positions. After an hour of tweaking I have a full line up.
I know it’s a knee jerk reaction to a bad week of outs, injuries and suspensions but I actually think it balances the team and with the xtra $$$ in the bank it can work in my favour in a few weeks.

  32. with rowe now dropped, who to trade for gawn? the dpp is handy but sou would the extra 40k!

  34. Got Gibbs, Goodes and Pittard as non-scoring defenders. Happy to bench Goodes and Gibbs. I have 400k in the bank. Is it best to upgrade Pittard to someone like Birchall, or cop the donut and keep some valuable growth for the long term?

  35. Nightmare week.

Had Goodes, Pittard, Gibbs, Heppel, Fyfe, Tex, Rowe, Crouch, Chapman.

    God, what a disaster.

Gibbs & Pittard –> Vlaustin & Hartlett. and one donut. Next week have 236k for some upgrades.
