Flavour Of The Week – Rd3

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 5 2016

G’day Supercoaches!

Clear trends have been emerging in this all-important week of trading.  There’s a number of sideways-corrections being made.  Many Coaches are opting for a larger ‘war chest’ option for the coming weeks.  As strongly as I urged everyone to hold off on trades last week, I’m urging you to correct your teams (if need be) this week before the changes in price.  I already mentioned in the Trade Talk thread that a double downgrade might not be the worst option this week, with subsequent weeks bringing up to three direct upgrades.  If you can afford to hold firm for a week or two, you might just be rewarded with greater cash generation in the long run.  But as always, do what you think is best for YOUR team.  And now onto the Most Traded IN players of the week (SC Gold, as of 5.4.16 at 7am):

1 – Tom Papley (SYD $109 900, FWD)

Plus:

+ The #1 from last week, this is basically a lazy cut&paste job 😉

+ Three goals from eleven touches & five tackles for his 104 SC pts against Collingwood on debut.  Backed it up on Sunday against Carlton with 17 touches and two goals for another 109 pts.

+ Looks right at home on the big stage.

+ Cheap forward rookie option with Break Even of -149 and projected BEs of -88 & -34.  Massive price jump coming up!

Minus:

– I still don’t trust John Longmire with rookies.  It’s the reason why I didn’t start with Papley last week.   Remember his treatment of Tom Mitchell over the years?

– McVeigh, Reid, Rohan and McGlynn are still to come back into the side.  Papley needs to keep that form up or he could find himself in the NEAFL quickly.

2 – Marcus Adams (WBD $117 300, FWD/DEF)

Plus:

+ Has quickly entrenched himself in the Bulldogs Back6, job security looks fantastic at this stage.

+ 82 & 135 from his first two games.  BE of -149, projected BEs of -111 & -27 show the massive price rise coming up.  Get on now!

+ 24 touches (13 contested) & three Free Kicks For helped get him to 135 pts against the Saints.  Was on the ground for 96% of the time!

Minus:

– Form is everything with rookies.  Let’s just hope he can keep up the good form for another couple weeks……..I mean, price rises 😉

3 – Jason Johannisen (WBD $418 200, DEF)

Plus:

+ Has ‘breakout year’ written all over him with his hard-running and ball carry.

+ As ‘Dan’ pointed out in the Game Chat from NAB Challenge between Dogs/Pies, Johannisen loves playing at Etihad – last years average there was 89 from 11 games.  ‘Away’ games only managed 61 avg from nine games.  Dogs play first seven games at Etihad and 14 overall.

+ Big start to the year against Freo with 35 touches (80%DE) and a goal for his 130 SC pts.  Backed it up against the Saints on Saturday with 27 touches (85%DE) and a goal for 123 pts.

+ Fantastic value at $418k.  Price will jump considerably with BE of -9 and projected BE of 55.

Minus:

–  Last three years pts average: 77, 64 & 64.

– If he continues to be that damaging with his run&carry, surely he’ll get tagged soon enough?

4 – Aaron Hall (GCS $428 100, FWD/MID)

Plus:

+ Big finish to last season, great pre-season in NAB Challenge, now carrying that form into the H&A season.  Has started the year with 129 & 124.  Has Top6 FWD written all over him.

+ 32 touches and 11 marks for his 124 against the Dockers on Saturday.

+ Job security no longer a problem, one would think.

+ Still great value at $428k.  BE of -3, projected BEs of 39 & 65.  Huge price rise coming up!

Minus:

– If O’Meara and Swallow ever return, maybe Hall’s role might change.  But until then, I’m struggling to find any negatives………..

5 – Ben Kennedy (MELB $187 100, FWD/MID)

Plus:

+ Big debut for Melbourne – 21 touches, zero clangers and a goal for 115 SC pts against GWS.  Was on of Melbourne’s best players against Essendon with 21 touches (11 contested) and three goals for 105 pts.

+ Dual Position Status, always handy.

+ Job security looks solid.

Minus:

– Trengove, Dunn, Petracca & Dawes still to come back into the Demons line-up.  Kennedy wouldn’t want to drop too far in form……….

No. 6-10: Luke Parker (SYD), David Zaharakis (ESS), Tom Liberatore (WBD), Zach Merrett (ESS), Josh Gibson (HAW).

Most Traded OUT Players: Michael Barlow (FRE), Tom Rockliff (BRL), Daniel Rich (BRL), Jordan De Goey (COLL), Jared Polec (PTA), Heath Shaw (GWS), Jade Gresham (STK), Jonathan Simpkin (ESS), Elliot Yeo (WCE), Jack Steele (GWS).

Later today, there’ll be a ‘SCT Leagues Update’ thread going up.  But I have to give a big shout out to the SCTalk LoEC1 and THE TEAM@SCT1 Leagues who are sitting at #10 & #12 overall.  Great effort to be so close so early, well done to all involved!  Be sure to check out the Community TEAM thread on Wednesday, looks like a busy week for suggestions and trades there.  Get your votes in!

Are you thinking of bringing in any of the popular choices named above?  Let us know in the poll below……..

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Thanks Swarz. I’m feeling good so far. I already have Adams, JJ, Parker, Hall, Kennedy, Libba and Merrett in my side. I just traded Cory Ellis to Papley ( just for the cash generation). I just need a couple more weeks out of them.

  2. I know it’s only round 2 but it’s hard not to ditch Barlow and Rockliff or even shaw for cash cow rookies. But I don’t want to be trading them all back in later in the year!

  3. Had Libba all preseason then knee jerked him out last minute so I want to correct that, however a lack of backs has me interested in Johannisen but I can only bring 1 in..

    TU Libba
    TD Johannisen

  4. Another Great write – up Schwarzy!

Interestingly Rocky is not on the Lions injury list updated today which could create dilemmas if he is named. Calf injuries are easily aggravated though.
    Rich listed at test.

  5. I’m holding Rich, I new he would be tagged in some games. With the lack of defenders this year I feel it’s a bit premature to go Rich to JJ. I may go Barlow to JJ as I don’t see Barlow playing midfield until Bennell arrives which could be a while. Rocky is one that hurts. I had Parker over him but changed him at the last minute. I most likely am going Barlow and Rocky or Gresham (if dropped) to JJ and Papley at this stage.

  6. rocky out for johannisen but deciding between dusty martin or parker for barlow. thumbs up parker
    thumbs down dusty

with parker i can move menadue to forward bench instead of on field in the mids and play papley on the field

  7. Have all the above except Gibson and Papley. Tossed Gibson out pre round 1 for JJ so I could upgrade Sinclair to Goldi, for obvious mixed results. Need Goldi to fire for that one to succeed.

Will bring in Papley for cash for Cowan via AMT and need to flog off Rocky.

    TU Parker for solidarity
    TD Zaka and pocket cash

  8. Lucky enough to have all of Papley, Adams, JJ, Hall and BenKen and Parker.
Thinking I need to rid the team of both Rocky and Barlow. Two weeks is too long for me to keep Rocky who may take some time with a calf. In the mix for promotion is Priddis, Zaharakis, Gray, Houli (via DPP), K Lambert.

    Current options are:
TU Rocky/Barlow to Priddis/Lambert – keep DPP and bank $87K
TD Rocky/Barlow to Zaharakis/Priddis – lose DPP and bank $37K

Priddis and Gray are prems, Zaharakis is now one of the main MID at Ess but not sure of his scoring capacity long term and Houli is likely to be top 8 DEF. Besides the tricky price, what are thoughts of Lambert from Richmond?

  9. Rockliff is out for Libba (whom I shouldve started with!)
    Gresham will become Lightning Johanneson.

Exceptional price rises expected from JJ, Weitering, Adams, Brown, Libba, Kerridge, Mills, Hewitt, Davis, Wells, Hall, Kennedy, Paps, Tippa. Glad Ive got them all :))

Laird, JJ, Weiters, Dea, Adams, Lonergan (Brown, Ruggles)
Gaz, Fyfe, Danger, Libba, Shiel, Cripps, BCrouch, Kerridge (Mills, Hewitt, Davis)
    Goldy, Nicnat (someone)
Wingard, Buddy, Wells, Hall, Benken, Papley (Tippa, McGovern)

  10. Firstly cheers 4 all the effort u put into this site swarza. In regards to your concerns with papley JS I respectfully disagree. Instead of using the Mitchell case ( where I think there was some trust issues with Horse), I’d use the Heeney case from last yr. Until injured you knew he was going to be picked. I feel the same way with paps, his role also makes me Confident who else can play the high energy/pressure small forward role. A winning side makes Horses job that much easier too, I would be stoked if he wasn’t picked this week it would allow me to just concentrate on correction trades. Back him in 4 at least another month and u will reap the rewards.

  11. I’m looking for a Rockliff replacement but have most of the ‘hot’ rookies. So I started looking at premiums. No love at all for Sam Mitchell? Outstanding start to the season and at $586K can’t understand why there is little/no discussion on his performance.
Will he be in the top 8 Mids by end of year?

  12. Just wondering of everyone’s thoughts on Callan Ward and Blicavs? Don’t see them mentioned much … what are the reasons for this?
Blicavs I thought offers good value with Ruck DPP and may be in for big year?
Ward main target to be tagged?

  13. Would really appreciate some input on the following options re getting rid of Rocky and Barlow

T/U Parker and Gibson (via DPP)

Happy with rest of my side, for now!!

  14. Great thread as always. I’ve got the flavoursome trio of disappointment in Barlow, Rich and Rockliff and I don’t have ben Kennedy or JJ from the doggies. On the plus side I’ve got Papley, Adams and Hall and what I feel is a good structure with all must have rookies other than Kennedy in my team. I’m just shy of being able to trade gresham to Kennedy and I just fall short of doing JJ and Kennedy in for Rich and Gresham.

If I want both JJ and Kennedy, I will need to trade Barlow or Rocky. I feel that Rocky will be back in a week and will end up a top defender, so it seems a waste of a trade as he is only 2 good games from a price increase and to get him back in after 3 or so week would require leaving a lot of cash in the kitty or doing another side ways trade. Not worth it.

Barlow seems to be more appealing to trade out, because with the DPPs, it will essentially be JJ on field instead of Barlow (and Kennedy over Menadue or Mills if i do the double trade).

Going a bit off topic here but It’s important to think about your final team before making any trades. My defence currently has 4 mid pricers, I ideally would like to have 3 as keepers and 1 be a cash cow to hopefully lead to a swap for Shaw (lonergan). I also want to trade in Laird and Mcveigh to my final team, therefore bringing in JJ will lead to me on trade another mid pricer out of my team (such as brodie or rich) or for me to pass on a top defender if all my mid pricers perform. Not looking for an answer but more thinking out loud so hopefully that encourages others to think about the big picture.

  15. Is JJ worth a trade or should I wait, cop the price increase and see how he goes against some top-tier opposition? If I bring him in, it would be for Lonergan or Bartel (or maybe Rocky).

    TU: He’s worth it
TD: Wait and see how he goes against the Hawks?

  17. I have all of Adams, Dea, Libba, Parish, Mills, Hall, BKen, Papley, Kerridge and Wells.

Issue being I also have SJacobs, Yeo, Barlow and Rocky.

It appears all rucks are due for some kind of decrease so I’m not too concerned about sauce. So the 3 thoughts I have in my head is some combination of:

    Yeo -> Johannisen
    Barlow -> Waite
    Rocky -> Zaharakis

I’m interesting in peoples thoughts on Waite, he’s been playing well, North’s draw looks favorable over the next 6-8 weeks and he’s always been a good proposition when he’s in form besides his brain fade’s that get him suspended.

    TU – barlow/rocky to waite/zaha + cash at bank becomes $443,700
    TD – barlow/yeo to waite/johan + cash at bank becomes $333,500

    Comment with other thoughts!

  18. Have all of Papley, Adams, Hall, BenKen and Parker.

My original team contained JJ, Merrett, Zorko (suspended) and Hartley (not named)..
I changed them to B Smith, T Greene, Barlow and M Brown. Scored > 2300 in week one (no thanks to Barlow and Toby Greene).

Thinking I need to get rid of both Rocky and Barlow. Barlow’s price will plummet next week and thinking to take advantage of the price difference now. Glad I held T Greene last week and didn’t trade. Although Barlow may ton up this week am thinking I can get similar results from Z Merrett, D Zorko or D Martin.

    Considering the following options:

1.Barlow to JJ (ATM or M Brown to fwd) Papley on field.
Def will be Shaw, Laird, Smith, JJ, Adams, Dea (Brown/ATM, Weitering)
2.Rocky to Z Merrett – can swap to fwd with any of Kerridge, B Kennedy,
    Wells (also using Menadue).
    or
    1. Rocky to Merrett
    2. Barlow to Zorko, or D Martin
    or
leave the Barlow to Zorko/Martin trade till round 4 to see if Barlow improves. In round 4 I intend trading Dea/Weitering to Hartley for cash generation which will allow me to then trade in Zorko/Martin even allowing for Barlow’s price drop.

Future options of trading C Mills to either B Keays or J Petracca will allow me to trade in N Fyfe (price will drop in the next couple of weeks) or maybe R. Gray. Then, barring LTI’s I don’t anticipate trading for some weeks.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  19. Trading out Barlow this week. Tossing up between D Martin or Zorko. Already have Hall, Wells, Dahlhaus, B Kennedy, Kerridge, Papley & A Mc-Tip.
Martin has a high break even of 173 so will be cheaper next week, but Barlow is going to drop in price. Zorko has only played the one game, but if he hadn’t have been suspended in Round 1, would have started in my team.
    TU: D Martin
    TD: Zorko
Or comment for holding off a week and see if Barlow can redeem himself…
