Freo V Richmond Midfield Guns

Written by MJ on June 12 2013

Seeing plenty of chat this week surrounding the likes of these four bye-free midfield warriors in Barlow, Fyfe, Cotchin & Deledio.

Both Fremantle and Richmond have rather soft fixtures in the run home, so it may be wise to jump on a few players from these teams.

Fremantle:
Bris (PS), NM (PS), Geel (SS), StK (PS), WC (PS), Rich (MCG),
Adel (PS), Carlton (ES), GWS (PS), Melb (MCG), Port (PS), StK (ES)

Notes:
4 of their next 5 games are in Perth
Only play 1 team in the current top 6 (Geelong)
Final four games (SC Finals) against poor opposition

Richmond:
Adel (MCG), WB (ES), StK (MCG), North (ES), GC (CS), Frem (MCG)
Syd (SCG), Haw (MCG), Bris (MCG), Carl (MCG), GWS (SS), Ess (MCG)

Notes:
Next 5 games are against sides outside the top 8.
Only 3 trips outside Melbourne (2 against GWS and GC)
Nice run of games in SC Finals

Essentially all sporting the same average and price tag, who would you pick first from this lot?
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Although no current Dockers in my squad, welcome aboard Mr Barlow this week. Proven consistent performer who can shake a tag. And he won’t be the last Freo player I bring in.

Favouring Freemantle players over Richmond as I reckon their run home (SC finals) is a more favourable draw. And I think they’ll finish higher on the ladder.

  2. Good article MJ, I already have Cotchin so will be Barlow this week for me.

I thought he might be a POD but now realise he’ll be pretty popular in the next few rounds.

  3. I already have Mundy, have had from the start as a POD. Concerned that he and Barlow in the middle is risky.

T/U no risk get on baord
T/D to risky try a Richmond player instead

  4. I’m thinking of upgrading Stanton and o’mera this week to cotch and Barlow, think this is a good idea? Stanton is inconsistent and I have cash to upgrade crouch to another mid premo next week. Just not sure about offloading Stanton or keeping him as a m8

  5. Cotchin has a BE of 152, so he is most likely going to drop a fair bit more. So Barlow is the pick for me this week.

  7. Cotchin the clear front runner for me in this one, closely followed by Barlow. Delidio too easily tagged and Fyfe has those dodgy shoulders. With trades getting scarcer you want to be bringing in reliable premiums.

    Cotchin > Barlow > Delidio > Fyfe.

  8. Everyone seems to have different opinions on the two fremantle premo midfielders. Who is the best one to get in, in terms of averaging the highest and most consistent?

I only want to get one of them in, so I can get Cotchin or Jelwood next week, so who do I choose?

    T/U – Barlow
    T/D – Fyfe

  9. As always MJ, gr8 write up….outstanding effort mate!

Fyfe this week…..in my opinion he’s over his shoulder injuries, Cotchin next week when he drops $30,000 with his BE this week & for company J Selwood welcome aboard!

  11. I suppose it’s a point of difference after reading through these posts but I actually brought in Mundy about 6 weeks ago when he bottomed out. He’s been relatively consistent since but hasn’t pulled the 130-140 scores of Barlow (I had Fyfe from day dot). I had planned on upgrading him before the end of the year but his favourable draw has me thinking otherwise.

Having said that, Watson will bottom out in around 3 weeks so it could almost be a straight swap. Very tempting. Current midfield is ablett, pendles, selwood, mundy, kennedy, priddis, fyfe with crouch and viney on the pine (mitchell and probably martin by lockout).

Who’s the weak link there and should be traded for Watson in 2-3 weeks time? I’m leaning towards Mundy…

  12. Aren’t Fyfe & Barlow more likely to be rested at one stage in the final 4 games? Just a thought.
