Game Chat – Adelaide v Essendon

Written by Motts on July 19 2019

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Friday, July 19, 7.20pm ACST

What it means for Adelaide: Last weekend’s 95-point thumping of Gold Coast was a nice confidence boost, but it will count for little if the seventh-placed Crows can’t back it up against better competition.

What it means for Essendon: Having won five of their past six games, the in-form Bombers can take another step towards booking a finals berth by knocking off the Crows, who are directly above them on the ladder.

The stat: The Crows kicked the highest score in the club’s history against the Bombers in round 10, 2006 at Football Park. Trent Hentschel booted eight goals as the Crows smashed the Bombers by 138 points – 30.8 (188) to 6.14 (50).

The match-up: Eddie Betts v Adam Saad

The Bombers defender kept Betts goalless last year, but the Crows veteran is high on confidence after booting six goals against the Suns.

It’s a big week for: Rory Sloane

The Crows co-captain will receive close attention from Bombers youngster Dylan Clarke, who added North Melbourne star Ben Cunnington to his list of successful tagging assignments last week. Sloane will have to be creative and have his teammates block for him at stoppages.

Big call: Reilly O’Brien to dominate in the ruck with at least 45 hitouts and 10 clearances.

Mottsy’s Tip: Crows by 15 points

  1. Posted this in LMQ, re-posting it here for a bit more of a consensus or if any has any particularly strong feelings or insights on the matter:

With K. Dunkley dropped, I need another MID downgrade. Who has the better JS?

T.U: I. Hill (did okay last week considering GWS got pounded)

T.D: W. Snelling (lauded as a tackling beast in the VFL where he’s been smashing it)

    1. Lol, you guys suck. A tie. Gone with Snelling, named in the guts and I think Woosha will reward a good effort. Plus, I get to watch him tonight.

  3. I decided to hold off on the rob/grundy trade for one more week, especially with gws naming two rucks. I am saying a little prayer for my bombers tonight in the city of churches.

  4. Predictions for tonight…

Sloane to break the clarke tag and score 142 with 28 touches and 12 tackles.

Matt Crouch to rack up 44 possessions.

    Adelaide by 12 points

Many Adelaide players to have inflated scores if they get up, due to many being robbed by CD last week.

A season ending injury to occur to the cursed McKernan further hindering Essendons ruck woes.

    1. Stringer kicks 6….at the 31 minute mark of q4, with the bombers 5 points down, tippa gathers the ball in the back pocket, 8 bounces and slots it !!

      1. My dreams are a little less dramatic: Sloane and Zerrett to top score for their respective sides and Snelling to put up a loophole worthy score.

  5. Crows too tall coming out. Slow and painful, like the commentating. Is that not the key reason?!?

  7. I passed on Zerrett in the end.

He will be cheaper next week anyway at this rate.

Can Clarke get a bankable score tonight ?

Could save me a trade 😉

  8. Hoping the same Freo Tragic.
If Milera posts a decent score may also punt on Logue on field and save 2 trades to give me another look at Whitfield this week before trading our Moore
    Decisions to be made.

  9. Will BT just shut the f*ck up? It is unbearable. Commentates as if he’s watching an alien race performing a perverse mating ritual.

        1. How’d you end up mate? Sloane getting tagged by Clarke so they were both never scoring great. Laird had 27 so not sure what happened there.

  10. BS how MCrouch can have 33 possessions @75% efficiency with 9 contested possessions and only 90 SC points.

    1. MCrouch is a fine player who certainly knows how to find the pill, however he does’nt do much damage with disposals. Too many handballs, and very sideways instead of North to South with his kicks.

      1. Yeah agreed, ive owned him from start of year based on his price but having watched him more closely this year dont think I’ll own him again. Hes an accumulator but dont think opposition would be fussed with him getting the ball in his hand.

    1. BCrouch is North to South with his disposals and hence much more damaging. DE% efficiency is the main reason his scoring has been held back in supercoach this yr. But when he gets that right his ceiling pts wise is higher than his brother.
