Game Chat – Adelaide v Richmond

Written by Motts on June 13 2019

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Saturday, June 13, 7.20pm ACST (7.50pm AEST)

What it means for Adelaide: This is a huge opportunity for the Crows (7-5) to push themselves into the top four on the back of their stunning win against Greater Western Sydney last Saturday night.

What it means for Richmond: The Tigers have to pick themselves up off the canvas after back-to-back losses to North Melbourne and Geelong. A third straight defeat will have the Tigers clinging to their spot in the top-eight.

The stat: The Crows hold a 24-14 advantage in the overall meetings between the two clubs, but 13 of those wins came from 15 games between 2000-10. The Tigers have won two of the last three against the Crows, including the 2017 Grand Final.

The match-up: Josh Jenkins v Dylan Grimes

Jenkins has returned to form since having a stint in the SANFL. He’s the second-ranked Crows key forward in the Official AFL Player Ratings (171st overall). Grimes is the second-ranked small to medium defender at the Tigers (#169 overall), but he’ll get the job on Jenkins.

It’s a big week for: Matt Crouch

The Crows midfielder plays his 100th career game. The 23rd pick in the 2013 national draft, Crouch is averaging 31.6 disposals per game this season and made a successful return from a hip injury in last weekend’s win against Greater Western Sydney.

Big call: The Crows to get out to a big lead at three-quarter time before hanging on for a close victory.

Mottsy’s Tip: Crows by 15

  1. Oh the conflict. I’m a Tigers supporter with 5 crows in my supercoach team.

Got the VC on R. Sloane tonight. Need a big one with only 16 players on the field.

  2. Anyone game to put the VC on Laird tonight? I don’t have Fyfe, so its between him and Zerrett for me.

  3. I’m thinking of holding Balta this week. He’ll be the primary ruck for the Tigers, which is the role he was playing when scored best this year. I know he’ll lose cash, but keeping him gives me 19 players this week, instead of 18 (with Gardner as the 18th).

    Good idea?

    1. Last week he was first out for an upgrade , but with other rookies cumming and young out he is now staying for this week.

  4. TU: C Burgess to P Naish for 18 this week
TD: Don’t bother, play 17 and grab P Naish in RD15 for D7 X Duursma.

    1. If you’re going to get him regardless, doesn’t it make sense to get Naish this round and get his score?

      1. Can use the last trade instead to trade Baker to Daniel completing the forward line and the only rookies in the 17 are Duursma, Gardner, Clarke (new recruit) and Setterfield.

  5. Rocky, Corbett and Answerth out:

    Boak, Sicily and Bewley In:

Field 17 with Burgess and Young emergencies…

Absolute carnage this week and am hoping to hold my spot at 1000…

  6. Currently having the thoughts of O’Brien as my VC due to Richmond not having a genuine ruck. It seems so stupid to have a rookie as my VC but it feels so tempting….
I won’t go with it but seriously it giving me lots of thoughts about this

    1. risk it for the biscuit???

Depends on your middles … if you have Fyfe, Kelly, Cripps etc … then maybe not … ROB will / may get around … maybe not enough for a VC …

    2. I was just thinking the same thing. Got him and Goldy this week so very happy. Hope rob goes huge, but cant go past fyfe/cripps.

      1. Wish I backed him in, ah well. Probs put it on Cripps like most of the community and suffer what most others will. At least only 11% own him so not as many as first thought will get this massive score

  7. Happy to see Mabior Chol finally get a game again!

He has been in the Tigers’ system for a few years now.
He was in one of my first (semi)successful SC Squads back in the day when I was just learning how to use the VC/C loop. I think he had Ruc/Fwd DPP back then.
I’ve always had a soft spot for him!

He also won the ‘best on ground medal’ in the VFL this year during the Sir Doug Nicholls Round! With all the injuries at the Tigers, it’s great seeing them show their depth and rewarding players showing some forms in the twos.

It may very well be his only game this year in the big league. But I do hope he has a beautiful, well-played game tonight!

  8. Of course I had a last minute epiphany that I *really*, *really* wanted to get both Gawn and Grundy next week, so brought in Matt Crouch instead of Fyfe to help fund it.

Looking like a great decision so far… 🙁

      1. What makes things even worse is that going this route means I have to trade Mumford out a week early to make sure he doesn’t bleed anymore cash, because the numbers are very, very tight. I wasn’t expecting a big score from him anyway based on recent form, but an extra 50 to 60 points wouldn’t go astray in a week like this.

        Stupid, stupid Salamander…

To be fair to myself, I’ve done the numbers for the season, and both options basically break even points-wise, but I can’t help but feel like I’ve taken the worse option.

I think I’m going to make a new rule for myself: don’t make important trade decisions 2 minutes before the lockout.

  9. The day you look at the Fanfooty leaderboard and you see Crouch and you just brought in Crouch. You look again and it’s the wrong f*&king Crouch. Matt you are not a doorstep…liftttttttttttt!

  10. Guys chill, Crouchy is on 28 at HT, normally when he has a 120 game he’s on 45ish. I would be surprised if he doesn’t have a 45 point quarter and sneak a ton. Worse case 90. He won’t go 50.

    1. Helps when his brother, Fatt Crouch (bc he won’t get off his ass), is letting him have all the touches.

  12. I reckon crows will overrun the young tigers, but they are not impressing much , basically playing the two’s.

  13. Ok take it as a good thing that the fact that I have him in my team but, that thought of having O’Brien as a VC really coming back to bite me now! Had to trust my gut, but not enough confidence after my shocking choices last week. Just sit back and watch the points rake in!

    1. Coming into tonight’s game, Balta had a hitout win percentage of just 32 percent – assuming the opposition ruck is basically competent (and ROB most definitely is), this virtually guarantees a big score.

  14. Wow, like many, I thought about VCing ROB but had no where near big enough kahuna’s to do it. Hindsight…..

  15. Told you Matt would lift. 14 touch quarter. Another 40 point last to get him 110 would be great

  16. Predicted ROB would get 130 SC tonight. Looks like he’s gonna smash that prediction.

  17. ROB wow. Can’t really trade him out this week now can we. Can we? Definitely a good topic for a poll during the week Schwarz.

      1. Just throwing the idea around.

ROB moves to R2, Goldy out, Bines swings back to F3, get in a fwd.

Probably wouldn’t have the heart to ditch my fave North player.

ROBs BE will be super lower after this monster score. Maybe we keep him another few weeks.

    1. McEvoy or Goldstein I think are ahead of him but if he keeps his spot whether that’s a duel ruckman or solo he’d be top 5-6

      1. Tomorrow’s ‘Scoring Anomalies’ is meant to be focussing on the previous round, but since I haven’t written it yet… I’ll look into it. 😉

  18. ROB gonna hit 200.

Even though the moves it enabled me to make will overall net me more points, it hurts to have traded ROB- especially fielding 16 this week.

  20. Traded out obrien…2 weeks ago
Almost as bad as when I left Cripps on the bench in 2015 when he decided to have his breakout game.

  21. If that was Caddy hugging/high fiving Eddie after that goal he would be looking for a new club and the media would have a field day.

  22. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: if the Crows insist on going after Grundy, even though they have ROB on their books, then you’re more than welcome at Princes Park, young man.

Oh, and bring Cam Ellis-Yolmen with you.

  23. I didn’t see the second half, but did Dusty get robbed?
    32 touches, 9 marks, 4 tackles and 2.0 @ 71% for 108 points?
