Game Chat – Brisbane v North Melbourne

Written by Thommo on July 20 2019

Where and when: Gabba, Saturday July 20, 7.25pm AEST

What it means for Brisbane: After huge wins on the road against Greater Western Sydney and Port Adelaide this is another difficult test against one of the competition’s in-form teams. A win would be a huge step towards a top-four finish.

What it means for North Melbourne: The Kangaroos simply must win to remain a chance of playing finals. Despite losing in the final 20 seconds against Essendon at the weekend, they have been terrific in the past seven weeks and would fancy their chances of an upset.

The stat: This match has, statistically, the two best ball-winners in the competition. Kangaroo Ben Cunnington has one more contested possession than Lion Lachie Neale (262-261) and two more centres clearances (50-48) to lead those two categories. Neale leads the AFL in clearances with 130, seven clear of Cunnington.

The match-up: Harris Andrews v Ben Brown

Let’s not overcomplicate this. Andrews is one of – if not the – best key defenders in the game, and Brown is fresh off six goals and is one of the premier tall forwards in the competition. It should be an engrossing battle.

It’s a big week for: Daniel Rich

In the midst of the best season of his career, Brisbane half-back Rich will run out for his 200th game. He has disposed of the ball at least 19 times in every game this season and trails only Sydney’s Jake Lloyd for the most metres gained in the AFL.

Thommo’s Tip: Brisbane by 15 points.

    1. P Dangerfield:
      Avg VS Haw since 2012: 134.7 from 10 (low of 90 and a high of 173, 2/10 below 100, 7/10 120+)
      Last 3 VS Haw: 138.67 from 3 (low of 126 and a high of 160, 3/3 120+)

      J Macrae:
Dependent on if you expect the Dogs to win but he has recorded 20 consecutive 100+ scores in Bulldog wins with the last time under 100 in a win against StK in RD10 2017.

  2. Sorry for jumping on the thread off topic guys, but Amateur hour question here: If I have two emergencies selected in the forward line and one of those emergencies doesn’t play, do I get the playing emergencies score for a non-playing forward?

    T/U: yes that’s correct
T/D: No it subs in the zero of the non playing emg.

  3. yep, you will get the score from whoever plays … if the other one doesn’t take the field they aren’t counted …

    1. Thanks Macca and all others who jumped on the thumbs. I had VC Grundy and got sidetracked and had the emg on Hayden in the fwd line (no idea why), with all other options being locked in by the time I checked it.

Will put Robbie Young on field for Billings and C him to take Grundy score.

      1. yeah mate – good for you if you have him … but just yet another example of the BS scoring systems of CD … very disappointing

        1. Oh yeah, CD system is a joke. Cunnington dived in and tapped the ball to the Lions advantage…+4 SC. I’ll take it though.

    1. Nice POD, Josh. Piqued my interest as well, but he’s just got such a low floor. Take the good with the bad I guess.

  5. Would have been better for us [West Coast] if North won, but I’m happy for Brisbane. Good on em’. Great to see them competitive again.
