Game Chat – Brisbane v Richmond

Written by Huttabito on April 16 2017

Venue: Gabba 4.40pm AEST

Last Time They Met: R14, 2016, Richmond 17.15 (117) d Brisbane Lions 11.9 (75) at the MCG

Game Notes: Richmond has a golden opportunity to continue its unbeaten start to the season on Easter Sunday. The Tigers have been the early season surprise packets, taking care of Carlton, Collingwood and, most impressively, West Coast at the weekend to be joint competition leaders. Led by white-hot Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin, they’re getting contributions from all over the ground and have shown an ability to grind out wins. The Lions have also turned a few heads to start 2017 despite their 1-2 record. In the past fortnight against Essendon and St Kilda they’ve run down big deficits to hit the lead before fading in the final quarter. Dayne Beams has been spectacular in his return from chronic knee problems, while young defender Harris Andrews looks a good match-up for Jack Riewoldt. The Lions have shown they’ll be competitive this year, but if the Tigers are serious about playing finals, they’ll get the job done here – just.

Huttabito’s Tip: Richmond by 20 (4-2)

      1. Yeah, gotta keep the faith though. Rocky is injury prone, and Treloar is too good to play a whole season like this

  3. Apparently Dusty had some right hip/quad concerns in the 3rd? That’s all I know about it, is it a cause for concern?

    1. Don’t beat yourself up about it – at an average of 5 missed games per year over his last 3 seasons, if he were to keep up his current 134 average but missed 5 games, his end of year score of 2280 would equate to a weekly average of 103… As long as whoever you picked over him plays 22 games I’m sure they’re capable of more than 103 per game 🙂

      1. That’s not how it works though. It’s all about whether the points he makes is worth a trade.
Rockliff versus JPK so far is 134 vs 110 avg. That’s an extra 24 points a round. If rockliff lasts 10 rounds that’d be an extra 240 points. If he lasts 15 rounds then it’s an extra 360 points. If he only misses 2 games then he’d have scored 480 more points than JPK over the season.

It’s really looking like he’s worth the trade at the moment. This is Tom Rockliff after all.

      2. That’s assuming you don’t have an emergency for those 5 rounds. Say you have an M9 that averages 70 over those five games -> 2280 + 70*5 =2630. 2630/22 = 120, so Rockliff still might be worth it in the end. Just something to think about…

        1. That’s true but if he’s missing games you’re gonna have to cop the injured game scores and the poor scores on return games which will bring his ave down. Although the way this year has gone so far I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays 22 games.
