Game Chat – Brisbane v Western Bulldogs

Written by Father Dougal on August 4 2019

Where and when: the Gabba, Sunday August 4, 4.40pm

What it means for Brisbane: With its spot in the finals now assured, the challenge is to lock down a top-four position. A seventh successive win would take the Lions one step closer to the double chance.

What it means for Western Bulldogs: Following last Sunday’s thumping of Fremantle, the Bulldogs are now just percentage outside the top eight. An upset win over the Lions would keep them well and truly alive in their quest to reach September for the first time since the 2016 premiership season.

The stat: Brisbane has broken many hoodoos this season (West Coast, Sydney and Adelaide at the top of the list) and this is another chance. The Bulldogs have won the past five matches between the clubs, including all four under Chris Fagan’s tutelage. The last time the Lions tasted success was the final round of the 2015 season when an eight-point victory helped them avoid the wooden spoon.

The match-up:  Harris Andrews v Aaron Naughton

This pits one of the best defenders in the competition against one of the best young key forwards. Naughton had some success when the teams met in round eight, kicking 3.2 from 15 disposals in cold and windy Ballarat conditions.

It’s a big week for: Any time you play your former club for the first time, it’s a big deal, and that honour belongs to Marcus Adams on Sunday. Adams has now played four games in Brisbane colours after his off-season transfer from the Dogs.

Father Dougal’s Tip: I haven’t predicted a draw yet, so now’s the time!

    1. Agree, but they haven’t had to deal with injuries much this season…

Zorko hammy could be a big problem for them into finals
