Game Chat – Carlton v Gold Coast

Written by Father Dougal on April 15 2017

Venue: Etihad Stadium, Saturday, April 15, 7.25pm AEST

Last Time They Met: R3, 2016, Gold Coast 13.17 (95) d Carlton 5.11 (41) at Metricon Stadium
R13, 2015, Carlton 14.19 (103) d Gold Coast 9.15 (69) at Etihad Stadium

Game notes: Both teams will be full of confidence after breaking through for their first win of the season last Sunday, setting up an intriguing contest at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night. The Suns put a tumultuous week behind them with a record-breaking win over the Hawks at home, but their first visit to Melbourne presents a fresh challenge for Rodney Eade’s men. Carlton produced a superb performance in the wet to overcome arch rival Essendon and coach Brendon Bolton will demand the same effort and intensity under totally different conditions. Both midfields are in top form, with the duel between in-form ruckmen Matthew Kreuzer and Jarrod Witts likely to be decisive. The Blues have won the only two encounters between the clubs at this venue comfortably and they should make it three from three.

Father Dougal’s Tip: Carlton by 10

  1. Murphy killing it and Brandon Matera playing like GAJ in his second game of the season. He kicked 6 last week and already has one this week.

  5. Bloody hell… scores were level last time I checked (which was about half-way through the third quarter). I come back half an hour later… Gold Coast has scored a million goals! How the hell did that happen!?

  7. Witts and Swallow disappointing, the former u can forgive the latter would b a worry 4 his owners/traders. Murphy owners still on a good thing. Doc solid Simmo ok. The trend of Doc avg 2opts more than his team mate continues. I owned Simmo last yr and was envious of the Xtra pts all the time. Simmo still a decent upgrade option though.

  8. “Brandon Matera is playing Carlton next round, historically he doesn’t score as well against them” – Yet more wisdom from SuperCoach Gold.
