Game Chat – Carlton v Gold Coast

Written by Motts on July 20 2019

Where and when: Telstra Dome, Saturday July 20, 2.10pm AEST

What it means for Carlton: The Blues would like to finish the season as strongly as possible and would sense blood in the water against the Suns. Victory on Saturday would move them above the Demons on the ladder, and keep their mathematical hopes of playing finals footy in 2019 alive.

What it means for Gold Coast: After 12 straight defeats, the Suns will be searching for dignity on Saturday. They produced arguably their worst performance of the season against the Crows last weekend and will be desperate for a response.

The stat: The Blues will be eyeing back-to-back wins for the first time in more than two years. They haven’t done it since round 12-13 in 2017, when they defeated the Giants and the Suns.

The match-up: Matthew Kreuzer v Jarrod Witts

Kreuzer had his way against a depleted Swans ruck division last week, helping the Blues midfielders feast out of the middle to win the clearance count 45-32. He’ll face an entirely different challenge on Saturday, coming up against the brute strength and power of Witts.

It’s a big week for: David Swallow (Gold Coast)

The club’s co-captain will be desperate to help turn the tide for the Suns after a horror performance last week. He’s been in fine form this year, but will face an almighty challenge against Patrick Cripps on Saturday. Look for Swallow to stamp his authority on the contest.

Big call: Mottsy to make the telecast as the loudest singer of the club’s song at the end of the match.

Mottsy’s Tip: Caaaaarlton by 10 goals

    1. If so it will be his 3rd consecutive score over 165 against GC. I just switched my VC from B Grundy to P Cripps an hour ago so hopefully your prediction is close.

  2. Post just for Gunboat (reposted from General discussion thread) – in relation to being worried about Patty’s kick to handballs last week …

Hey GD – just on Cripps as well … his kick to handball ratio is ( mostly) below 0.4 – the odd game now and then when he gets to parity … so last week could be basically considered “normal” – see stats below … he was 1 for 1 in round 4 v Suns, scoring 169 in SC … in a 2 point loss … hope he does same?? !!
