Game Chat – Carlton vs Essendon

Written by Huttabito on April 9 2017

Venue: MCG 3:20pm AEST

Last Time They Met: R23, 2016, Essendon 15.13 (103) d Carlton 10.19 (79) at the MCG

Game Notes: The unbeaten Bombers have made a strong start to this season, determined to put a horrible 2016 behind them. But they were not as impressive last Saturday night as they were in the opening round, finally overcoming the plucky Lions at the Gabba. Carlton is showing signs of improvement, but skill errors and poor decisions, notably by experienced senior players, proved costly in last Sunday’s gallant loss to the Demons. The Blues have looked good in patches and will be looking for more consistency to stay in the game for longer periods. While Carlton tightened its defence last week, scoring continues to be a big problem and looms as a big factor again on Sunday. On the other hand, Essendon has multiple avenues to goal, led by dangerous small forward Orazio Fantasia and spearhead Joe Daniher.

Huttabito’s Tip: Essendon by 20 (3-1)

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  1. Swear Silvagni isn’t wearing a long sleeve jumper but is wearing a long sleeve black ‘skins’ top and a normal Carlton jumper. Is that legal? Serious question btw.

      1. It’s a uniform issue, looks messy and can show brands outside sponsorship. Ovens and Murray had the same policy it’s pretty standard.

    1. All the Carlton players who normally wear a long-sleeve top are doing it. I think it’s because of the special-edition ‘Blueout’ guernsey – they probably didn’t bother making any long-sleeved ones. So, any player who would normally wear a long-sleeved jumper has to wear a sleeveless one with a top underneath.

    1. See people, I told you he was going to have a big game at some point! I benched him too, though (and his on-field replacement went and scored a 51 on me…).

  2. Is this really the year of mid-price madness? Murphy rewarding all those that decided to pick him big time!

  3. SPS scored 114… on my bench. Oh well, I think we know who this week’s Rising Star nominee is going to be.
