SUMMARY

It has been a tough few weeks at Ikon Park as the battling Blues search for their first win of the season. They have shown patches of good footy, but their young brigade in the midfield have been too easily brushed aside by bigger bodies. Carlton’s inefficiency inside forward 50, turnovers and skill errors have also proved costly and injured skipper Marc Murphy leaves a big hole, but this Saturday twilight clash presents an opportunity to show some fight after a week of heavy criticism and soul-searching. The Eagles have been impressive in the past two wins at home, but they have struggled in their recent contests at the MCG. Josh Kennedy proved the difference when these clubs last met and he will be eyeing another big haul if he wins enough supply from his midfielders including Elliot Yeo, Chris Masten and Andrew Gaff.

Thommo’s Tip:ย West Coast by 12ย points.

  2. Carlton legend Mark Maclure and coaching legend Paul Roos have this week both echoed my calls for us to reinstate our old gameplan.

It seems great minds really do think alike ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Tips for the game:

    – If we stick with the way we have been playing all year: West Coast by 70.
    – If, by some chance, we actually follow the Roos/Maclure/Salamander advice and go back to our all-out defensive style of yesteryear: Carlton by 10.

    1. I didn’t see the game, but judging by the scoreline, some of the stats, and what I heard of the game on the radio, it looks like our style moved at least somewhat back towards the old gamestyle.

If I had said Carlton by ยฑ10 this might have been a good call.

    1. Fritsch has been named to play for Casey tomorrow, so is a good chance to be dropped this week.

Of the remaining two I would take Garlett (1 bad score and 3 good ones), but I would ideally loophole them if I had the option.

      1. As is Bernie Vince, who was on Fox Footy this week saying he was tagging Dusty/Cotchin. Take the teams with a grain of salt.

          1. kicking myself for playing him … sure there was a post during the week regarding how he actually looks on the field (in real play, rather than just SC scoring) and that the bottom line was that he offers not much and really only relies on kicking goals … was going to play Henry … oh well, will see how it plays out …

            1. Sitting on minus 2 for most of the 2nd qtr. 7 @ HT.

Bad, bad, bad. Luckily Simpson and Cripps are covering for him so far.
              3 players sitting on 155 at HT… ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. sticking with Fyfe (over Dusty and Titch). But don’t let that influence you. In fact do anything but, after the last two weeks!!

    1. Named on field, but Melb have a habit of doing that. Bernie Vince is named at centre bounce for Casey but was on AFL360 mid week saying he was tagging Dusty/Cotch. Could 50/50 for Fritsch.

  13. Stupid skill errors costing up goals right before 1/2 and 3/4 time… does my head in. So frustrating to watch but glad to see they’ve realized a defensive approach is still required.
