Game Chat – Collingwood vs Richmond

Written by Schwarzwalder on July 26 2019

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Friday June 26, 7.50pm

SUMMARY:

What it means for Collingwood: The Magpies’ season is quickly spiralling out of control. They’ve lost three of their past four games, two of them by at least 44 points, but a win against the Tigers will keep them in the top four.

What it means for Richmond: The Tigers seems to be timing their run to perfection, and a fifth successive win will lift them back into the top four for the first time since round 10. They also have the chance to gain some belated vengeance for last year’s preliminary final drubbing.

LAST TWO MEETINGS: The Pies have smashed the Tigers in their past two clashes, by 39 points in last year’s preliminary final and by 44 points in round two, while restricting Damien Hardwick’s men to just eight and 10 goals respectively.

Schwarzwalder’s Tip: Richmond by 13pts

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  2. Houli crisp & grundy all play tonight so need this sorted in the next 59min please

    TU: Option 1:
    Hurn -> houli/crisp
    ROB -> Grundy
    Will miss Whitfield all together probably but no Burgess D6, 4 trades remain $0 bank

    TD: Option 2:
    Setterfield -> hill
    ROB -> grundy
    Burgess will be D6 BUT allows me to get Whitfield next week if Hurn misses again.
    4 trades 180k bank!!

  3. Here’s a lil wet weather supercoach gold for any newbies.

    1: High Contested rate leads to more stoppages and hit outs for the ruckman. If they tackle and win contested possessions they tend to go big in the wet.

    2: Inside Mids who tackle score well as DE doesn’t matter as much.

    3: Players who rely on marks such as intercept defenders and key forwards score poorly.

    4: outside mids score poorly due to lack of contested footy in comparison to the rest of the games numbers.

    In essence, Grundy will score plenty tonight so don’t be afraid to VC him. If he was Whitfield you wouldn’t, Sloane you would. Tada

    1. Poor disposal efficiency and a low contested possession rate in conjunction with not laying a tackle are largely to blame.

    1. Gawn taking on the best Ruckman in the league. He will be lucky to break 80.

      1. It’s normally the opposition ruck’s hitout win percentage that has this effect. Gawn HOW %: 59 percent; Marshall HOW %: 42.8 percent.
