Game Chat – Adelaide vs GWS

Written by Huttabito on March 26 2017

Venue: Adelaide Oval, 2:50pm ACDT

** Game will now start at 2.45pm ACDT with the AFL enacting it’s heat policy rule. Ensure your team is set by then. **

Last Time They Met: R10, 2016: Adelaide 15.17 (107) d Greater Western Sydney 13.7 (85) at Adelaide Oval

Game Notes: The expectations couldn’t be higher for the Giants after they fell short in one of the great preliminary finals last year to the eventual premiers. It is no wonder Leon Cameron’s men are flag favourites. Their midfield is brimming with elite talent, Jeremy Cameron, Jonathon Patton and Rory Lobb are a three-headed monster in attack and Heath Shaw and Zac Williams provide great run and carry out of defence. Injured trio Stephen Coniglio, Brett Deledio and Aidan Corr are big losses, but the Crows have their own concerns for the season opener. Star midfielder Rory Sloane, captain Taylor Walker and defender Jake Lever are touch and go, while Brad Crouch, Scott Thompson and Paul Seedsman will need to build match fitness before they can return. The Crows have a potent attack, but will need their young midfielders to step up if they’re going to get off to a winning start in 2017.

  1. FINAL TEAMS

A blow for the Crows, with Tex Walker ruled out of #AFLCrowsGiants. Riley Knight comes into the side. Giants unchanged.

  2. It’s only halfway through the first quarter, but Hampton and Otten seem to be starting well.

    Taranto on 1 disposal and 1 free-against.

  3. By the way SC has been scoring this weekend I’d expect 1 kick and one free against to score 65 for the qtr!

  4. Lethal was about half a step shy of telling BT he was full of **** just now. Almost as entertaining as the game!

      1. Just BT spouting his usual rubbish as a self-appointed goal kicking guru, and Lethal finally getting jack of it . Nothing serious, still funny though

        1. Apart from that BT is a useless Commentator and does not do his resarch on new players.
BT keeps calling Taranto as Kennedy.
#BT most useless connentator going around.
          #Bring back Dennis.
Oh BT finally just called Taranto correctly.

    1. I already have the trio of Docherty, Shaw, and Laird; if I were to upgrade Hibberd to a premium, who should I bring in? Simpson? I’m not sold on Howe, personally.

        1. Alternatively I could bank the cash, or spend it somewhere else. I could upgrade O’Meara to a genuine premium, for example (this is not to suggest that I’m concerned about his performance last night – I have no doubt he’ll be better in a week or two – but having 7 premium midfielders would be a nice way to start the season).

  6. Good game of footy this one and agree the scoring just does’nt seem to be right. Have they changed the scoring system, seems more points for goals and clangers seem to be penalized more. All i know something has changed.

    1. In-game SC scores should always be taken with a grain of salt… perhaps even a whole salt shaker. Scaling can change things substantially.

Having said that, the in-game scores are definitely off this week.

      1. Depending on Swallows injury time table and if Taranto holds his spot, WHE could be an in, ive gotta look more into this though haha

  9. I caught the second half of the game, if the crows are going to play like that all year, I think I’ll watch a few of their games.

Eddy Betts is fantastic to watch, better than Cyril IMO. Up there with Daicos.

  10. Forgive me for harping but Laird had 19 more possesions 9more score involvements 4 more inside 50s 4 more free kicks for and belted heath by 15 points!!! I sincerely hope sc scores are realistically updated

  11. Lard had 42 disposals (24 kicks and 18 handballs at 85% DE), 7 marks, 4 tackles, 14 CPs, 10 score involvements, 5 frees for, 4 inside 50s, 6 rebound 50s, 13 intercept possessions, 2 1%ers and 600 metres gained.

That should be a massive game. If he doesn’t get something like 180 off those, it would be an outrage.

    EDIT: Ended up on 147.

  12. So scores are up… Laird got 115.

24 kicks, 18 handballs, 7 marks, 4 tackles, 5 frees for 0 against, 14 contested possessions 2 clearances and his disposal was at 85%. Only 3 clangers for the game.

    David Mackay:
11 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks, 5 tackles, 1 goal, 5 contested possessions, 2 clearances disposal efficiency of 90% with 1 clanger. 123 supercoach points.

Scrap that they just got changes to 147 to laird and 110 to mackay. Still don’t know why Mackay scored well, they’re just making it up I swear.

    1. If Champion Data keep up this joke of a scoring system, they will compromise the integrity of the competition. And no, fixing up the scores after the end of the game is nowhere near good enough.

      1. There have been times in the past when I’ve been convinced the system was rigged to make Gary Ablett look good.

In all seriousness, though, I doubt they would have changed the scoring system over the off-season without telling anybody.

  13. Just went to the game, a bit sauced, a bit excited. If we kicked straight we would have won by 100. It’s only round one but gees it feels good to start the season off with a display like that against a genuine contender.
